Decayed Rhapsody 03.01.2010 09:56 AM

Damn. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Toilet & Bowels 03.01.2010 10:00 AM

Fuck.

_slavo_ 03.01.2010 10:12 AM

damn, only 43yrs old ...

Rob Instigator 03.01.2010 10:21 AM

heart disease is a motherfucker.

jennthebenn 03.01.2010 12:01 PM

Terrible news. It was no secret Guru had struggles with the bottle, but I
would not have expected a heart attack.

batreleaser 03.01.2010 12:35 PM

Makes me want to stop eating my blueberry muffin.

Really? I never heard that. How long was that the case?

Maybe that why there was a longer gap after each subsequent Gang Starr record. And why he was kind of off point on the last two. Not to mention his dreadful solo records. Still, he's one of my top 10 rappers of all time.

jennthebenn 03.01.2010 09:03 PM

Coinciding with the releasing of The Ownerz, he spoke on struggling with
alcohol and how it almost broke up Gang Starr on a few occasions. There
was other talk of a coke habit, but that's just that...talk. The excessive
drinking was something Guru admitted to. It definitely affected his
productivity and relationship with DJ Premier.

Anybody that says they like hip hop music, and they don't own any
Gang Starr, I don't trust those people.

They are the band that you can use to tell if someone is really into hiphop or if they just like Jay Z and whatever else.

Shifty Prophet 03.02.2010 06:19 AM

I heard about this yesterday from a friend that works for Primo, definetly a shocker, hope the Guru recovers.

jennthebenn 03.02.2010 09:22 AM

Latest news is Guru is now out of surgery.

Rob Instigator 03.02.2010 09:32 AM

fuck.

floatingslowly 03.02.2010 10:32 AM

I hope he's ok.

I only have Step in the Arena and Daily Operation. :(

jennthebenn 03.02.2010 10:35 AM

Owning two Gang Starr albums is better than no Gang Starr albums at all.

Rob Instigator 03.02.2010 03:52 PM

jennthebenn speaks truth

SYRFox 03.02.2010 04:40 PM

According to DJ Premier's twitter: "Good news: #guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love Il y a environ 9 heures via web"
Let's hope...

fugazifan 03.03.2010 03:25 PM

never heard of them or him till this thread. i downloaded daily operation, and it is fantastic.

jennthebenn 03.03.2010 04:32 PM

So we have:

Revered rapper Guru released a statement to AllHipHop.com today (March 3) as he recovers from surgery after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.

Guru, born Keith Elam, was briefly comatose due to the heart attack. Doctors successfully operated on the 43-year-old MC on Tuesday (March 2).

"I am doing fine and I am recovering! I'm weak though,” Guru told AllHipHop.com in a statement today. “Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!"

Guru and his family are asking for privacy as he recovers and stressed for fans to continue to send prayers, thoughts and love.

His partner Solar echoed Guru’s comments about the need for privacy but told fans the outlook is positive for the rapper.

Additionally, only Solar will have access to Guru and accurate information regarding the status of his health.

"Guru is resting and doing well after his surgery,” Solar told AllHipHop.com. “The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness. We thank everyone who send prayers our way and we appreciate the outpouring of love from around the world!”

Solar can be reached by contacting a representative for his publicity firm, Yo-Pr.com.

But then, this from Guru's nephew.

Keeping It Simple 03.03.2010 04:51 PM

Was Lily Allen saying horrible things about him on Twitter, hence his heart attack?

Rob Instigator 03.03.2010 06:25 PM

lily allen's third nipple?

NOT safe for work or sensitive peeps

SuperCreep 03.03.2010 06:30 PM

fuck solar. what an insensitive fucking prick. this isn't the time for this kind of bullshit. i went through a lot of the same issues when my dad was in a coma/recovering from it and this is an unbelievably AWFUL situation to be in. it's hard enough when a loved one is so sick.

props to his nephew for such an articulate, heartfelt statement. that was really strong of him. i hope the family rightfully gets control over guru's health.

batreleaser 03.03.2010 08:38 PM

he's doing better. he's awake.

SYRFox 04.20.2010 06:19 AM

He's apparently dead. Fuck.

RIP.

Toilet & Bowels 04.20.2010 06:49 AM

Fuck

Bal 04.20.2010 07:37 AM

RIP GURU
this is very sad news.

chicka 04.20.2010 08:21 AM

Definite shame when someone so young passes away. While I don't own any cd's by Gang Starr I did have the privilege of seeing them live as a back up act for RATM and found them thoroughly entertaining. My favorite MC was the biggest dude in the gang and he came on stage carrying a sledge hammer. Nice weapon a sledge hammer makes.....

Rob Instigator 04.20.2010 08:47 AM

fuck. for real? damn.
that shit sux.
thought surgery was gonna help him out.

I knew his steez

Rob Instigator 04.20.2010 09:06 AM

Guru never ever rapped BULLSHIT, always kept it lyrical, and had rhyme schemes that dwarfed most other MC's

pokkeherrie 04.20.2010 09:35 AM

RIP.

this is weird:

Derek 04.20.2010 10:31 AM

Ugh, Gang Starr ruled. Sucks.

noisereductions 04.20.2010 12:08 PM

did anyone read the letter he left? He said he wanted nothign to do with Premier at the time of his death. So weird. I didn't know they were estranged like that.

Rob Instigator 04.20.2010 12:19 PM

7 years of not talking between Guru and Premier.
some shit must have gone down man.

no kidding. HOnestly, I never knew. I mean they always had their own seperate projects going on, so I had no idea there was a rift.

chicka 04.20.2010 12:31 PM

I'm guessing that Solar's pulling some shit here from what I've read. The night I saw them they had like 6 MC's? What gives with that?

Guru always had a big crew: The Foundation. A lot of associated acts. Like from his Baldhead Slick compilation and all that.

Personally I always LOVED Group Home's first album. So so so classic.

jennthebenn 04.20.2010 05:40 PM

I don't trust that letter, 'cause I don't trust Solar. Premo and Guru were
estranged, but man...something about the wording just rubs me unrealistic.

noisereductions 04.20.2010 05:43 PM

it is really, really weird.
