Jackets

I need a new winter jacket.

I'm useless at shopping for clothes though. I don't want anything too arctic friendly, just something I can typically wear over a polo shirt and jeans. We're talking smart-casual here.

Please help me.

phoenix 08.24.2009 07:11 AM

not sure how I can help you try on or find a jacket. do you want links?

you're a guy right? what's yr style? what shape and height are you?

demonrail666 08.24.2009 07:21 AM

yeah, links. loads of em.

I'm a guy, 6ft, bit of a beer gut

loubarret 08.24.2009 07:49 AM

Are pretty great, but I think you won't find my winter jack anymore.

if yr tall I'd probably go for something that finishes where yr butt stops, shorter stuff would probably make you look lanky and I think the longer cut looks nice on taller guys. my *personal* preference is for a nice tailored leather vintage look jacket something like this below(I prefer black to brown, or even any colour that is really dark like a nice burgundy. if you have a nice butt I'd choose the leather one.. I swear I have stopped what I'm doing and followed men around the city in winter when they've been wearing a nice tailored leather jacket with a split and a nice ass.)

or, a nice semi tailored wool duffle one like below.. again I like winter coats in dark colours only (except for reds or greys on women), and I think black is best in wool on guys. Wool ones are more casual but just as cool, I think. especially if its a duffle. they're charming and it looks like you've "accessorised" without trying.

dont mind me though, I have have somewhat peculiar tastes in clothing.

gmku 08.24.2009 09:01 AM

Man, you are talking about my favorite subject next to sex and LPs: Jackets!

I would suggest a nice fatigue jacket. See J. Crew's version. Or get a pea coat. See also J. Crew but you might also find an acceptable version in an army-navy clothing store.

Military-influenced outerwear is very in right now.

demonrail666 08.24.2009 09:14 AM

yeah, i'd not thought about a pea coat. that might be just the thing actually

Here is something simple from Casual Male and it doesn't cost a arm and a leg. Most definitely order from a big & tall place if you are over six foot!

Yeah, that would definitely work.

demonrail666 08.24.2009 09:24 AM

Now this I really like!

phoenix 08.24.2009 09:26 AM

I had one of those when I was 4. ^

girlgun 08.24.2009 09:36 AM

i'm voting pea coat. always looks good.

floatingslowly 08.24.2009 09:45 AM

I want a pea coat. it's too bad the family-clothing-budget for the next 10 years was spent on BOOTS!

ithinkimissyou 08.24.2009 10:01 AM

I like M65 style jackets generally

I'd love a military wool overcoat/greatcoat but I can't find any locally and am wary of buying them online

sorry man, i don't give a shit about your wardrobe (i am not your mother), but i wanted to say that i wholly approve and am completely envious of your current location-- the fact that your jacuzzi companion is a 50 year old fox makes it even more appealing than if this had been the 80s.

Savage Clone 08.24.2009 10:22 AM

Since you have admitted to wearing polo shirts, I don't think we can find any common ground and I am useless to advise you in this matter.

notyourfiend 08.24.2009 10:35 AM

In New York City, everybody wears a variation of the same jacket made by the same company.

Even though the sight of North Face makes me want to ram my head against the table, I must admit, those things keep you pretty dang warm.

free-online-translation: "get back to me when yr looking for a leather g-string".

Savage Clone 08.24.2009 10:41 AM

If you knew me at all, you would know how ridiculous this statement is.
How many times do I have to say "underwear is for suckers" or "underwear is a scam" before it sinks in?

floatingslowly 08.24.2009 10:45 AM

I can imagine yr leather pants as smelling "somewhat slightly worse than a slipknot mask" (and I hear that slipknot masks smell TRRRRBLE).

not that I want to smell them, of course; that's more of a glice thang.

i would never be caught dead in that.

notyourfiend 08.24.2009 11:52 AM

Satan - are you also from NYC? If so , then you totally understand how obnoxious those jackets are.

My bought one for me a few years ago as a gift....I try to avoid wearing it, but I can't really afford something warmer. I only wear it during the coldest days of winter, when I'm feeling like scum regardless.

Satan 08.24.2009 11:54 AM

yeah. if there's anywhere to see a cluster of fatfucks in those jackets it's at a starbucks in the winter.

haha, susanna says "hola"

Sonic Youth 37 08.24.2009 11:58 AM

Northface is also rampant on college campus. Most often sported in winter by people wearing shorts and flip-flops in 40 degree weather.

your weird anti-polo shirt thing. did you once have a bad experience with a tennis player?

Satan 08.24.2009 12:01 PM

polo shirts should be outlawed

demonrail666 08.24.2009 12:02 PM

no they shouldn't

jon boy 08.24.2009 12:03 PM

not that I get a casual friday, but if I did, I'd be forced to wear a polo shirt.

Satan 08.24.2009 12:04 PM

pea coats never keep me warm enough.

idk, i hate winter so much.

Zombie Robot 08.24.2009 12:04 PM

black pea coat ftw.

they are warm and look good on practically any body type and will help to hide ur hideous polo shirts.

Satan 08.24.2009 12:04 PM

 i loooooove winter.

fuck yeah to the black pea coat.

jon boy 08.24.2009 12:06 PM

i also have a parker as well as a chequed pea coat but i would look to the military style when its winter as those things are made for that and they work and they are fairly cheap. leather is also good for keeping the wind out but not very insulating, layers is the way to go.
