The First Sonic Youth LP......
.....you bought in the week of release?
Mine was A Thousand Leaves. I got into them at Washing Machine, and bought most of the catalogue pretty quick. Bizarrely, it was a few years until I got CIS and the debut EP  |
Has to be Rather Ripped for me. I got into them just after the release of Sonic Nurse, and yeah, bought most of the catalogue pretty quickly as well. I think by the time Rather Ripped was released I had all the albums, SYRs and some EPs and solo projects
|
Washing Machine. Got into them around the EJSTNS time.

Actually it was probably the eternal, although I probably got the Destroyed Room within around a month of coming out. I didn't really buy much music until my conversion to record geek side in 2006, and that's when I found the yoof. Didn't take me long efter that to obsessively buy everything, so I've been hankering for 2 years to get a shot at picking up an SY album on release day...
|
The Eternal :o
Got into them right after Rather Ripped was released, although I only brought myself to listen to it nine months after I started listening to SY. edit: fuck, I realized that I already have more than one hundred posts...it seems like only yesterday I had twenty-something...lol |

first was EJTNS and every album since has been bought upon first realease.
|
EJSTNS for me too, but then the next one was Sonic Nurse. i was in a Sonic coma for over 10 years!
|
Nurse. I first heard SY right around the release of Murray Street, and didn't get any of their albums until I got DDN sometime in '03. Got Sister and Dirty shortly after, Nurse when it came out, and the rest is history. :D
|
I got into Sonic Youth in 2007, so it was The Eternal for me.
|
Bad Moon Rising...

Sister

I wanted to get The Eternal when it came out, but I had no money.
I think I got Sonic Nurse and Rather Ripped the first month they were released, but I don't think I've ever gotten an SY disc the first week of its release... |
None, as I've never had the money to buy an SY LP the first week of release. Am I not a true fan?

Which one would have been the first, if you'd had the spondoolix? |
i bought dirty way back in high school, around the time murray street came out. i didnt have much initiation to pick up the rest of the albums until i saw the cover for sonic nurse and it sort of reminded me about them. but that was at least a year since it had been out.
the first album i bought when it came out was rather ripped. the first day it came out i downloaded it off itunes 5 minutes before i had to go to work, just so i could listen to it during my ride :) |

In fact, I still have the SST longbox Sister came in at the time. I worked at an independent record store in 1987 and I remember cracking the shipment open with a razor knife and nabbing it off the top. Ahhhh what a memory. EVOL and Bad Moon Rising had been blowing my mind so bad months before that I had money set aside for Sister ready for it's release. |
The Eternal. I didn't get really into SY until a few months after RR was released.
|
Murray St.
|
The Eternal. I first got into SY around 2007. I can remember reading reviews of Rather Ripped and thinking that this was a band I should look into.
|
i got the deluxe self titled ep when it came out
|
"a thousand leaves" used. yes someone already traded it in the first week it was released at the record store i was at.
|
RR, I missed Sonic Nurse by about 2 months.
|
I think it was Evol, but I can't remember for sure. If it wasn't Evol, it was Sister.

Sonic Nurse.

Probably The Destroyed Room oddly enough. Missed RR by about a month, though did by The Eternal in the first week. The other ones I tracked down one by one, going through a huge phase where I bought several of their records in a two month time frame.

Dirty...All those many moons ago. I Had Goo and Bad Moon Rising but only after I had discovered SY thru the UK press about to explode about grunge... The Eternal GROOVES by the way. peace

Rather Ripped.
