Least favorite of SY's "critically-acclaimed trio" of albums?
EVOL never did much for me; it's got some really great songs on it, but it seems much more inconsistent than Sister and DDN.
Daydream Nation
so hard! I'll have to go with sister I think. But those three are all of such high quality from start to finish.
I don't enjoy EVOL much, except Marilyn Moore.
EVOL has some really minor off spots, but it's sill very near a perfect album for me.
can't understand why daydream nation is interesting.
I didn't want to...but I voted Sister.
as much as i like it, sister.
I voted Daydream Nation. I like the album, just not as much as Sister or EVOL
I'm going with Sister on this one. aside from Schiz, Catholic Block, SS, and White Kross, the songs really don't work for me. EVOL, while lacking AMAZING!, standout songs, is a solid album when taken as a whole.
Sister I think ... but somehow I can't bring myself to vote. It just seems so wrong,
Evol is my favorite of the three. While Bad Moon Rising is my favorite Sonic Youth album hands down (my favorite music album hands down, actually!) I really was impressed by the group for doing something completely different as a follow up. Sister is the "Sister" album to Evol, and Daydream Nation is a solidifying of that direction.
I hate voting for "least favorite" things though. Such a silly way to look at great art. Which is worse Guernica or Blue Nude? I prefer to focus on favorites rather than dwelling on what I "don't like as much." |
Daydream Nation. BMR through Sister is my favorite run of albums from anybody, and I don't see why Daydream is supposedly so much better.
Sister probably, though it's really fucking awesome. EVOL is their best album and Daydream Nation could be a little bit more perfect than Sister. But it's hard.
daydreaming days in a daydream nation. I think it's one of my least-listened to SY albums.
Sadly, I voted for Sister. I love all 3, DDN is my favourite.

DDN

DDN has the best lyrics of, well, any SY release in my opinion. There's a thematic consistency and a poetic, insightful beauty that's rare, not only for SY, but in rock music in general. |
Sister because it actually has one or two songs I don't like.
evol. sister has pipeline on it, and that is one of my favorite songs. i cant vote for sister solely on that fact.
i voted for evol. reluctantly.
Daydream Nation
DDN for me...
Sister
DDN.
I've gotta say EVOL. Purely because the best songs on it don't match the best on the others. Great album though.
I love Sister but it's my pick. It took me forever to get into Evol but now its my 3rd favorite(CIS and BMR are unbeatable)
DDN
Daydream's my favourite out of the three. I'd always found the other two good, but not as amazing as people say they are. I recently relistened to them both, I like them more than I used to. I think I'll go with Sister, if only because I think EVOL works better as a whole.

No can do

I think my main problem with it is that it's so long...and the fact that it's obviously a lot more classic-rock indebted than the ones before it...not that that's a bad thing really, just I prefer the coldness of BMR or the mystery of EVOL. Sister's got it's own thing going that I've never been able to put my finger on. |
Yeah, there's definitely parts about it I DO love with all my heart. Just as an entire album, it's difficult to listen to all at once. It's better on vinyl, where it's more spread out. I've never liked the fact that it was issued on CD as one cd, and the same goes for Zen Arcade and ESPECIALLY Double Nickels on the Dime. They don't make sense in that format to me.
That intro to Teenage Riot...the guitar part's always reminded me of the vocal melody to the chorus of The Grassroots' "Live For Today" probably not intentional but I've always heard it. |
DDN
i've only recently got EVOL (i know, shoot me) and that album is fasinating for me. So spooky but also really beautiful and fresh |
Dirty
i somehow managed to read 'lees favourite'
here i go sister. because its got AWESOME SONGS but the order doesnt convince me, and evol and dn work as a whole 100000 times better |
Yeah, it's definitely Sister. Don't get me wrong, it's still fantastic, but Daydream is pretty much my no questions favourite album of all time, and the only SY album that comes close to challenging it is EVOL. Both of those are as close to perfect as music gets, work better as whole albums, and simply have a tone that I prefer to Sister's. Sister meanwhile always struck me more as an amazing selection of songs that just doesn't hang together as well as a whole work.
Even though I dig it, I went with EVOL on this one. Sister and Daydream are basically my favorite SY albums ever.
Eh, its a hard one. But I always found Daydream Nation somewhat...lacking. EVOL has to be my fave for sure, closely followed by Sister.
depends, if we are talking about EVOL as tom violence thru expressway, then sister is my least favorite. If evol= TV thru bubblegum then evol is the least favorite. why they would put a song after expressway on the cd is beyond me. evol is an amazing album, but expressway is the perfect closing to that album, and bubblegum completely takes you out of the album.
