Have you ever written to a celebrity?

If so, which one. I once wrote to Twiggy a long long time ago. Of course i did not get a response. How bout you guys? yes e-mails count too!

HaydenAsche 06.15.2006 10:02 PM

I sent Jamie Stewart a letter yesterday. I'm buying a button and a sticker and I asked if he'd be willing to meet/make-out with me after the show in Minnesota this October.

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.15.2006 10:05 PM

I think I wrote to Santa Claus when I was a kid. Does this count?

luxinterior 06.15.2006 10:08 PM

I'm in the process of writing a letter to that boy who plays Harry Potter.

I've never sent a famous person a letter before. I did once write a letter to the guy who wrote the lyrics to that song "Blind Man's Penis (Peace and Love)." I often send people letters asking for free stuff.

Laila 06.15.2006 10:09 PM

of course that counts

haha you are writing a letter to harry potter and you don't even know his real name? in the letter are you going to write dear harry? cute! are you a fan of those movies or something or are you just writing him to harass him?

m^a(t)h 06.15.2006 10:09 PM

I would hate to send mail to a celebrity. I would if given a chance, invite D'arcey Wretzky out for tea, nothing special...

HaydenAsche 06.15.2006 10:14 PM

I can keep up bitch.

HaydenAsche 06.15.2006 10:30 PM

LOL

Nigga I am.

Of course I know his name, I just wasn't sure how many people here did also. Perhaps if there had been numerous topics dedicated to Daniel Radcliffe, I would've been content with writing "Daniel Radcliffe" and clicking Submit Reply.

I am a rabid Harry Potter fan--the books, the movies, the FANFICTION OMG, the whole shebang. Mugglenet keeps me up-to-date on all of my Harry Potter news. It told me that Daniel Radcliffe was a fan of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. I am going to court him and make him my husband.

I am now going to try to rep you for writing to Twiggy. That is so cool.

schizophrenicroom 06.15.2006 10:38 PM

i prefer calling them to writing letters.

wearescientists 06.15.2006 10:55 PM

no but you can write me if you want to

CHOUT 06.15.2006 10:56 PM

I wrote Mike Watt and Sonic Youth when I was around 14. Just stupid letters kissing ass and asking a million questions. Steve sent me a Sonic Death fanclub info page and wrote on it. You can see it in my scrapbook thread.

Two questions I do remember asking SY were if they broke up (this was right before Dirty's release date was announced - pre internet.) and where I could find the Death Valley '69 EP.

acousticrock87 06.15.2006 11:16 PM

I've been meaning to write Bruce Campbell.

I will entitle it:

"A Sadomasochistic Sonnet to One, Bruce Campbell, For a Holiday's Rememberance"

And then I'll just say how I liked Evil Dead and how chainsaws are cool. Or something.

Either that or I won't write him and I'll just use it as the title of a song. I'm liking that idea more.

luxinterior 06.16.2006 12:03 AM

I met Bruce Campbell on his book-signing tour for "Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way." Then I went to school and bragged about it. I have a picture somewhere, though it's probably not on my computer.

porkmarras 06.16.2006 04:57 AM

I don't know if you could count him as a celebrity(not that he'd care anyway) but i'm on sporadic contact with Billy Name who painted Andy Wahrol's first factory silver. All i'm saying is that he's a sweetie.I was also in touch with Simon Reynolds while he was writing 'Rip it up and start again:Post punk 1978-1984' mainly because a section of it is dedicated to Scritti Politti's 'Skank Bloc Bologna' and i happened to militate in an italian communist party as a kid.

porkmarras 06.16.2006 05:00 AM

Why can i not fucking spread my arms around fishmonkey a little bi more?So annoying......

Wow - that's a great book! I work in a bookshop & have convinced many people to buy it. And I'm saying to everybody reading this: buy that book!

porkmarras 06.16.2006 05:34 AM

Simon Reynolds is incredibly approachable as a journalist. No snobbery or posing there at all. That guy knows so much about music it's scary.

jon boy 06.16.2006 06:52 AM

although i was asked, i never wrote to jimmy saville. i wanted to go on nightmare as well, but we just couldnt be bothered in the end.

Toilet & Bowels 06.16.2006 07:44 AM

what about if you're related to a pseudo-celebrity, as i have written emails etc in that vein?

Danny Himself 06.16.2006 08:18 AM

I've sent a few emails to Lazlow Jones. He replies every time. He said I am 'mad spazzy' once though. :[

is that cunt thread still going?

luxinterior 06.16.2006 10:08 AM

I totally forgot that I interviewed Roberta Bayley last month. She photographed what became the cover of the Ramones' first album, and Hell's Blank Generation, and plenty of other stuff as well. She said she had a new Blondie book coming out with her photographs in it. Also, some of you may have read Please Kill Me--that's one of her photos on the cover as well. She was beyond helpful and gave me very long and detailed answers.

Let's play twenty questions!

Q1. T&B - Is the pseudo-celeb male or female?

Glice 06.16.2006 10:51 AM

I have written to loads of small indie bands. Not since the internet took over though. It was the only way to keep in touch with new releases back in the day. Some bands are really nice and send you proper letters (depends on the size of the band, I suppose).

I think that's one thing the internet stopped - you used to be able to get signed things and little odds and sods a lot easier before there was this fear of ebay selling. I don't know if bands would be so happy to sign sleeves and things you send them now.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.16.2006 11:35 AM

I wrote an email to Wierd Al. He never responded.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 06.16.2006 11:43 AM

Well, if emails count:
I emailed Glenn Branca twice, got a response both times. One was about making the Branca forum, the other was for a notation advice for writing notation for a certain tuning. (E2-E2-E2-E3-E3-E3)

krastian 06.16.2006 02:35 PM

I used to write to old/current baseball players all the time when I was a little kid. I don't think I ever got any responses back.
