if you know his cuz something detected it, tracking cookies are often classified as "trojans' when in fact they aren't.

in any case, any free antivirus should be sufficient-- i use avg and never have a problem. also, i regularly empty my browser's cache and run stuff like adaware & crap cleaner-- it's kinda like flossing.

also, for those spewing mac twatness-- you're the new proselitizing vegans. of course there are viruses spyware & all sorts of crap for mac, these days. just because you have your head burieed under the sand it doesn't make it go away.

I've been reading this stuff for years, and I don't entirely discount it. However, I still don't personally know a single Mac user who's actually had any trouble with a virus, and virtually every PC user I know has had to deal with something nasty. That's only anecdotal evidence of course, but the volumes do speak for themselves nonetheless.

That said, having an ego about owning a Mac is as obnoxious and pathetic as having an ego about owning any product.

BTY, for your free pc laptop (and I know I'd take one if somebody was offering!), I'd use the program Adam was recommending since he has a massive porn fetish and a massive music fetish, and has probably downloaded every pc bug imaginable because of that.

Beware of "free anti-virus programs" that are actually designed to install adware and trojans on your computer. They are definitely out there and are often what makes people think they have something to begin with - you get a cookie triggered warning and it asks you to download the solution, but the solution is actually a root kit nightmare. Don't use anything without at least googling reviews and/or warnings online.

And !@#$%! is right about cookies sometimes triggering warnings from tracking software too. You should clear out your cookies regardless, if you haven't already.

most people get viruses from a) russian porn spam, and b) warez.

really, unless you go on downloading installing weird crap on our machine, which exists for mac too, most viruses should leave you alone.

You see though, I don't actually believe that pc users are stupider than mac users, which is what saying that everything that can infect a pc can infect a mac just as easily would be saying.

Since mac users don't get infected nearly so much and most don't even bother to run anti-virus programs and most also use Safari (which has known vulnerabilities, and which I definitely don't recommend using), they'd have to be making all the right decisions about what to download while pc users were making all the wrong decisions if there wasn't something to there either being way less out there preying on macs or something about the OS that's more secure.

While I think that inane worship of a product or company is a type of dogmatism the world would be better without, reactionary denial of the strengths of a product (and note, I'm not saying strengths are invulnerabilities!) because of others' dogmatism is not the solution.

i think most computer users are in average stupid-- mac takes that into account and builds in safeties to accommodate that, while pc thinks "you should know better" and have been playing catchup in making their systems stupid-proof (they haven't yet succeeded). besides, there's the issue of worldwide numbers.

i have both brands--and im not denying each one's strengths-- i dont put warez in either, though.

I never wanted to offend somebody when saying that I am using a mac and never got a problem with viruses since them.
its just like 2 years ago I switched over to a mac and some of my friends too, the observations clearly speak for the mac. none of the mac-ians ever got any problems with it anymore, while the PC users talking on a daily basis about that.
and of course there are existing viruses and all the stuff for macs too, but they arent that interesting for the guys who build viruses because macs are still a minority.
but its fun how a sentence like that will earn a lot of hate in a few hours, even if it was more ment like a midnight-joke with a lil bit of truth.
