Your Favourite SY LP of the 1990's?

There's too many to do a completee SY list on the polls, so I'm going to do the 1990's.

Someone else can do the eighties, if they so wish. The 00's might be best laft, as there's a new one out soon.

I've included the Made in USA LP and SYR4. Because I felt like it.Um, that's it.

Tell us your choice, too, and why. If you want to.

schizophrenicroom 03.25.2006 12:08 PM

Aaah, this was hard. I went with Dirty, just because of Wish Fulfillment and the last five songs.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 03.25.2006 01:07 PM

1.Washing Machine
2.Dirty
3.EJST&NS
4.A Thousand Leaves
5.Goo
6.SYR4

I haven't heard Made in USA, so I can't rank it.

Everyneurotic 03.25.2006 01:09 PM

syr4 bitch!!!

even though i was just remembering how amazing dirty is

and also, a thousand leaves is a sprawling masterpiece

i have to add that i don't own the rest of the albums listed here so i don't have a well formed opinion on them, it's not that i don't like them, it's that i don't know them well yet

trance feeeedback 03.25.2006 01:10 PM

That could be a very good point, yes. I was using this site's discography, and disallowed 'Screaming Fields...' on the basis that is was a compilation of 80's stuff that was just being re-released.

As far as I am aware, although it's mid-80's in composition, the 90's release was the first.

Hope I was right.

Fox 03.25.2006 02:35 PM

Mille-feuilles :D

I like the others too, but he got something magic, and Hoarfrost is...

Does that really make it a '90s LP'?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 03.25.2006 02:35 PM

I voted dirty because its the first SY cd I got. I like washing machine just as much.

It does according to the official discograpy.

Is SYR6 one of the best releases of, 2005? You could hardly call it one of the best releases of 2003, when it was recorded. Because it wasn't released then.

next step 03.25.2006 02:39 PM

I go for the magic phasing sonorities of ATL.

Well, it was a the soundtrack for a film, correct? The soundtrack may have not been released on it's own, but if the music was composed in the mid-80s, the music was heard in the mid-80s, and it was released on the film in the mid-80s, to me it's totally an 80s work.

AllMusicGuide lists it in their discography as an '86 LP.

But of course, this doesn't really matter. It's obviously not going to win.

Neongod 03.25.2006 03:03 PM

Once one has become accustomed to noise rock, I don't know how one can top Washing Machine.

I heard that the music does not play a lot in the movie...

And, a Made in USA soundtrack was released in 1986, but with only like, 1 Sonic Youth track or something like that... But the Made in USA was released in 1995, I think

nature scene 03.25.2006 03:33 PM

A thousand leaves without a doubt

samuel 03.25.2006 03:33 PM

Wow
Washing Machine
I wouldn't have guessed that

it's probably my 2nd favorite of those listed though

HaydenAsche 03.25.2006 04:40 PM

Washing Machine. Easy.

krastian 03.25.2006 05:10 PM

I second that. Washing Machine it is.

rocky 03.26.2006 09:51 AM

a thousand leaves

to me all the other proper 90s records are separate but equal, all pretty wild and wooly. Leaves is the one i feel luckiest to have heard, and to still hear, in my lifetime.

Shaka 03.26.2006 09:53 AM

Thousand Leaves is the first SY record i bought so i voted for it, with Washing Machine a very close second... but Heather Angel is so amazing...

h8kurdt 03.26.2006 10:51 AM

Washing Machime

Purely for the freakout on Washing Machine and the whole of Diamond Sea :D

toxic johnny 03.27.2006 03:29 PM

I had to go for SYR4... mainly because it changed my life, at a time when I didn't think that it could be changed again... now I know that anything is possible.

Inhuman 03.27.2006 03:34 PM

That's really tough, but it was between Washing Machine, Dirty, and Jet Set. I went with Jet Set because of Sweet Shine, Androgynous Mind, Winner's Blues, and Bull in the Heather. I wish I could have chosen the three of them though

Gainsbarre 03.27.2006 07:52 PM

I picked Experimental Jet Set... cuz everybody's always dissing it! But it's a good album!!!

Washing Machine for me. It's such a fun, rockin' album. :D

Spiritual Amnesia 03.28.2006 04:13 AM

_slavo_ 03.30.2006 07:14 AM
