WTF? My sister bought Rather Ripped today...

i thought the release - date is on 13 June ?????

Inhuman 06.02.2006 09:08 AM

hmm, well that's the american/Canadian release date. Maybe it was released sooner elsewhere. Good on you though!

Hannah 06.02.2006 09:19 AM

Maybe it wasn't a legal copy. Certain people can get hold of cd's and dvd's before they are released and sell them for cheaper. I remember this because my mum did this with a Will Smith album for me because I couldn't wait (many years ago). However everyone just downloads now if they want music before the release date so I'm not sure. Maybe the release dates are different everywhere. Or your sister got very lucky. Where did she but it from?

Spiritual Amnesia 06.02.2006 09:20 AM

hmmmm..... i thought europe has the same release date......whatever
the european rather ripped cd has got a Bonus Track : Helen Lundeberg.

EDIT: she bought it in a commercial music-store

whorefrost 06.02.2006 10:15 AM

choice bonus track... i'm waiting to get it on wax

sonicl 06.02.2006 10:32 AM

The Euro edition has Helen Lundeberg as a bonus, but the UK edition has both of the 7" tracks as bonuses, while the Japanese version goes even further and adds a third bonus track in the shape of a "Psychedlic Mix" of Do You Beleive in Rapture.

The reason for this is that non-Americans are far more deserving of Sonic wonderousness than the Americans.

why dont they just put those tracks on ALL copies of the album??? i dont get it...

umjammer atomsk 06.02.2006 01:27 PM

I've read that albums cost more in countries foreign to america so the buyers expect more. I don't know.

that's the rationale, but it doesn't change the fact that Helen Lundeberg could have been readily subsituted for What A Waste or Jams Run Free.

qwerty 06.02.2006 01:34 PM

it's out today in Ireland
and the bonus tracks are Eyeliner and Helen Lundeberg

umjammer atomsk 06.02.2006 01:35 PM

I haven't heard either of them so I can't comment on the quality of the tracks.

king_buzzo 06.02.2006 02:13 PM

i didnt see it in shops here, oh well only a like 12 days left till it comes out

greenlight 06.02.2006 02:26 PM

WHAT? out in ireland. i'm going to town 2morrow then. can't wait!

greenlight 06.02.2006 02:35 PM

so you and yr. sister r listening and like sonic youth? that's nice.

mushmanski57@hotmail.com 06.02.2006 03:13 PM

Anyone want to show the back/disc/insert artwork please?

Spiritual Amnesia 06.02.2006 04:40 PM

this is the pic inside (under the cd, i hope you understand ??)

umjammer atomsk 06.02.2006 04:55 PM

It looks like Kim has an apron on and Lee looks like Liam Neeson with a beard from what I can see in that tiny photo.

johnnywinternoshow 06.02.2006 05:22 PM

http://play.com/Music/CD/4-/1027921/...d/Product.html
I just bought mine off play.com for £9! How cheap is that?! It says it's in stock too so it must be out in the uk already

alexscience 06.02.2006 05:44 PM

its ment to be out in the u.k on monday. my housemate works in a recordshop (musiczone) & they got theres delivered on thursday just gone, so they might be some under the counter copies (if you know what i mean) floatin around.

BushIsAPsycho 06.02.2006 06:33 PM

sleepin around is one of my favs. i also have grown to like do you believe in rapture? thurston's voice on that one is quite moving. i think that commercial store might've broken da law. cuz anyone can just record the tracks that are streaming on sy.com and burn em onto a mp3 cd.

krastian 06.02.2006 07:19 PM

I'd be happy as shit if one of my sister bought a SY record.

umjammer atomsk 06.02.2006 07:30 PM

Me three!

whorefrost 06.02.2006 08:29 PM

lundeberg and eyeliner are a lot better than rather ripped in MY OPINION (currently drunk). £9 for the CD including these tracks! damn, I spent £5 on the 7" of the bonus tracks alone. I planned to get Rather Ripped on wax.. i'm not that sure about it... i guess i will... it just doesn't seem that vital to me

umjammer atomsk 06.02.2006 09:45 PM

I'm going to get the vinyl, I already stole the mp3s though.

PAULYBEE2656 06.03.2006 03:14 AM

see my crackin up thread for my opinion!!!! 2 weeks early seems a lot and it was scheduled for a 13 june release in europe!

greenlight 06.03.2006 03:45 PM

yeah, it's true. i bought it 2day. funny..in hmv there's like a promotional panel with most of the sy previous releases for like 9.99 eur and in the middle is new lp. i saw one guy (evidently happy with the 9.99 price) deciding between washing machine and murray street hehe. finally bought it it towers, coz still have some vouchers from tower records.

WHAT ABOUT Thurston Moore - Psychic Heart on vinyl? Is it out yet? Totally forgot to check that out. I saw 1st. ep and ciccone on vinyl, but not psychic hearts couple weeks ago. is it delayed?

toxic johnny 06.03.2006 05:45 PM

I read somewhere that the vinyl version of Psychic Hearts is out on the 13th June, the same day as the vinyl version of Rather Ripped...

then i realized all the blue.

dude, you're the first one out there. SH is life, you know?

lunberg 06.04.2006 04:16 PM

The albums in France cost around 15 euros at the least (in good stores) and generally 20, so that's why a song or 2 plus the unversal package is always cool.

I bought it this morning (italy)- 20.90 euros-canonical-shitty price.
helen lundeberg as bonus track.
quite a sterile booklet.
I was surprised... it was not even in the "new records" section!

Chop Chop 06.05.2006 05:13 PM

The Sonic Youth store will have a pre-sale of Rather Ripped on CD and Vinyl starting Tuesday, June 6. Orders will ship on the release date, June 13. Check it out here.

Pre-sale orders are also being taken for Thurston's Psychic Hearts on vinyl which will ship on June 13.

Danny Himself 06.05.2006 05:30 PM

I bought mine today.

GL-JC 06.07.2006 07:45 AM

its out in Australia! saw it on the shelves of JB Hi_fi over the weekend. some places do get an earlier release date but its usually only a few days earlier...but hey,i'm not complaining here! hehe

Magublafix 06.07.2006 07:55 AM

i bought it a few minutes ago...

Hip Priest 06.07.2006 07:57 AM

I bought it today - the 'Special Edition', it says, with two extra tracks.

It sounded good on the streaming, but of course it sounds even better through a better system. Nice.

shentov 06.07.2006 08:28 AM

thats fun. i bought illegal copy of nurse a week before the release date. i'm gonna check this guys crappy shop again today. i have ordered a copy from a friend in spain too. otherwise i have to wait for months.

Dan 06.07.2006 11:55 AM

I just got my vinyl in the mail from Midheaven, and I'm almost through Reena. I think I would've gotten it sooner, because I paid for Priority but they sent it Media Mail. Anyway, so far, so rad!

noisemachine 06.07.2006 05:27 PM

My online pre-ordered copy shipped today so I should have it by this weekend! Im so excited because I still haven't heard it!
