you know, i forgot to ask. i should've. it looks pretty old and it was the most expensive out the ones i was showed at the bike shop, so maybe it is a little old.

sonicl 03.08.2008 03:00 AM

Anyone who rides a road bike has my deepest admiration. I had a really nice one for a while, but I was terrified whenever I went out on it. It was just so light, and it felt like the slightest gust of wind could have blown me anywhere.

Mind you, England's roads are so busy and so badly maintained that they're just not good for a road bike anyway.

Savage Clone 03.08.2008 08:48 AM

I know the New Bike feeling. I wish I could experience it more often.
Congrats. This is what I'm riding these days; the frame is a late 1970s Japanese touring style, customized to my preferences. I took these pics when it was still warm out. Right now it needs a good cleaning to get all the road salt/grit of the past few days off of it. Winter biking is pretty messy sometimes.

i just rode my new bike today and the wind was blowing so much that i could only ride for about 20 minutes without feeling exhausted.

Savage Clone 03.08.2008 02:58 PM

Wind is my mortal enemy half the time, and my good friend when it's going the other way. I put on between 20-40 miles a day generally.
My bike cost $125, but I got it from one of those "works out of a garage" kind of guys. It should probably have cost around $350 or so. Eventually I'll have some really nice rims on there, but one step at a time. I love it more than any other vehicle (motorized or unmotorized) that I have ever owned. I like that you don't have to spend a ton of money to have a very fast, unique bike. You can always keep upgrading parts. The French frames are sweet, but the disadvantage is that they have French threading and the parts can be a little harder to get a hold of sometimes.
I love the lugs on yours. Very cool.

Mrs. Butcher 03.08.2008 03:14 PM

this was my bike (at least the frame was the same anyway) until my complete lack of maintance lead the seat post to get seized in the seat-tube, and my attempts to cut in out going array.

✌➬ 03.08.2008 03:33 PM

I want a bike, help me savage.

uhler 03.08.2008 04:07 PM

we should turn this into a bike thread.

talk and post about your bikes or any bike for that matter!

i finally got off my ass & got my bike fixed today

sweet sweet sweet bike

sorry i can't post a "full body shot" of the actual thing but this is more or less my bike-- same model only 10 years older

mine is red and a lot more fucked up & less slick than that. not glossy.

Mrs. Butcher 03.08.2008 06:05 PM

i'll probably get myself another fixed wheel when i get back from america, if i have the funds.

Savage Clone 03.08.2008 06:05 PM

I love riding single speed, but I will always be a freewheel guy.

52 in the front, 16 in the back.

well, actually, to concede a point to everyneurotic's own experience, mexico city's traffic is ruled by satan. of course if more chilangos rode bikes the esmog would be lots thinner.

ps- i spy a bike on the road!!

^^ or is that a dude standing up on the hood of a car??

save on brake blocks. even less maintenance. gets you fitter. faster off the line. track stands to impress girls. perfect.

Everyneurotic 03.08.2008 06:18 PM

bikes are for hippies and yuppies. ha!

i rather walk or take the metro to go to far off places, walking also releases endorphines.

and delicious? do you mean you have sucked on a pituitary gland like raoul duke wanted?

and yes traffic here is hellish, but ruled by morons possessed by satan which is alot fucking worse. stupid shit happens always every day, and even bikers do crazy shit and cause more traffic.

Savage Clone 03.08.2008 06:19 PM

I can trackstand with a freewheel for a good while.
My legs are plenty fit already from the big gear, and my knees are not crying out in pain from resistance stopping.
I love flying down steep hills and will not give up coasting.
Not having brakes is just pissing-contest territory, fixed or free.

Mrs. Butcher 03.08.2008 06:21 PM

yeah i'm not too bad with a freewheel, but i look less of an idiot fixed.

I love the look of fixed gear bikes (as long as they don't have those stupid motherfucking laminated "hip bike guy event" cards all up in the spokes), but so far the only advantage I can see in them is the "antilock brakes" factor being good for winter riding. I just make up for the loss in macho factor that I get by riding freewheel via my massive chain ring.

Mrs. Butcher 03.08.2008 06:26 PM

one less thing to go wrong, less likely to get stolen (someone will jump on it, try to freewheel and get thrown off), easier in traffic.

Savage Clone 03.08.2008 06:27 PM

Fixies are so popular here that they're almost more likely to be stolen, heh!

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 03.08.2008 06:30 PM

Cyclists are pricks, aren't they?

I ride a bike to and from work, and around and about town. It's a laugh, innit? Actually quicker than the bus and about 4 million times cheaper than a car. But then I'm lucky to be in a city where that's feasible.
