MY Top 50 ROCK GODS
These are not gonna be in any specific order. That is too hard to do
Jimi Hendrix Chuck Berry John Lennon Keith Richards Ozzy Osborne Tony Iommi Lemmy Kilmister Iggy Pop John Fogerty Jim Morrison Ray Manzarek Thurston Moore Lee Ranaldo Neil Young J Mascis Michael Stipe Gibby Haynes David Byrne Joey Ramone Dee Dee Ramone Joe Strummer Glenn Danzig JImmy Page Eddie Van Halen David Lee Roth Gene Simmons Paul Stanley Peter Criss Ace Frehley Neil Peart Ian McKaye Morrissey Robert Smith Steve Albini etc etc etc etc etc |
Minus Keith Richards, you got it.
|
You have all of KISS up there, surely Mike Patton could replace one of them to make that list.
|
Not ONE woman is mentioned. Sad..
|
50 women would be difficult, no? I can think of:
Kim G Kim D Courtney L (controversial, but she merits her place) Joan Jett Patti Smith Bjork Madonna (pushing it a bit) Siouxie Sioux Ari Up Kathleen Henna Nico Dolly Parton (pushing it a bit, but she belongs in every list of good things) Skin from Skunk Anansie (who doesn't belong apart from being a woman) Justine Frischmann Sainkho Namchylek (Doesn't belong, but I love her) Diamonda Galas (stretching it) Brix Smith Chicks on Speed (I don't know any of their singular names) Peaches ... and I'm out of ideas. I hereby challenge other people to complete a list of 50 women. |
i could do without morrisey, roth, van halen, and kiss. other than that very nice
|
Don't forget the gals from Sleater-Kinney, Satomi from Deerhoof, Janis Joplin, Kristin Hersh, Grace Slick, and uhhhh the donnas? just kidding they are beyond rock godesses, hahaha

agreed, but im sure he grew up with these bands, so thats why he has the "MY" in there |
val halen what?
heres the factual list, 1: mark e smith, 2 - onwards: everyone else is music in no particular order 3. popular music artists including elton john, will young, westlife, wham, 3: artists in shite bands including, oasis, green day, hard fi, the kooks, twisted sister, metalica, fall out boy, panic at the disco, him, slipknot, blink 182, pearl jam, embrace etc, 4: people involved in the endless growing amount of post-libs indie bands with members aged 15 to 25 that all love pete doherty, EDIT i have difficulty counting whisting making simple short lists |
You listed a lot of mediocre artists.
|
More women
Julia Neagle (The Fall) Danielle Dax Lydia Lunch Someone from Veruca Salt? (don't know names, but their first LP was ace - heard nothing since!) The woman in the Subways (very cool, don't know her name) Laila from The Duke Spirit (very very cool) Leslie Keffer Jemima (?) from Be Your Own Pet |
nice list, Rob
i see Jimmy Page, but i don't see Robert Plant. i see Glenn Danzig and Ian MacKaye, but i don't see Henry Rollins. |

Gods can't wear spandex. |

Plus you forgot Yoshimi of the boredoms and Bilinda Butcher of My Bloody Valentine in the female list. |
I like my list better:
Elvis Buddy Holly Chuck Berry Richie Valens John Lennon Lou Reed David Bowie Brian Jones Syd Barrett Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page Iggy Pop John Bonham Keith Moon Pete Townshend Robert Pollard Kurt Cobain Darby Crash Sid Vicious Kim Gordon Frank Black PJ Harvey Richard Hell Marc Bolan Ian Curtis Ozzy Osbourne Gene Simmons Rob Halford Freddie Mercury Jim Morrison Johnny Rotten Joe Strummer Joey Ramone Glenn Danzig Mark Mothersbaugh Guy Picciotto Henry Rollins Andy Gill Anthony Keetis Jim Reid John Entwistle Roger Daltry Eddie Van Halen David Lee Roth John Paul Jones Robert Plant Kevin Shields Jonathan Richman Daniel Ash |
it's all well and good being PC and listing 50 women, but how many of those women belong on a list of all time rock greats? respect to kathleen hannah and everything, but she's hardly a patch on lemmy.
|
Kathleen is just a patch of hair on some feminist's leg.
|
janis joplin should probably be in the top 50 and DEFFINETLY be in the top female rock stars
|
and gracie slick for females
|
i´d add Mark E. Smith to your list
|
These list are for ROCK GODS, people that have influenced others far far beyond just their regular fan base.
that is why I did not put too mnay of the l;ast 10 or so years, I still do not know what their influence will be. as far as women in rock. my only rock goddess is KIM GORDON. PJ Harvey is clodse to it but she has yet to leave a legacy. maybe she never will. everyone I mentioned has left a legacy. rollins is OK, not a rock god. greg ginn should be a rock god before rollins. now, a list of underground rock gods, would be a LOT different. |
WHY THE FUCK HAVE NONE OF YOU MENTIONED DEBORAH FUCKING HARRY???
|
because blondie is "meh?"
|
Quote:
By the way what's van halen doing in there? |
eddie van halen and david lee roth are ROCK GODS, shasring the pantheon.
this was not a "hip" rock gods list, or an indie list or an underground rock gods list. |
Quote:
She was in Jefferson Starship. That pretty much denies rock godliness right there. |
Quote:
|
blondie is cool, but I would not consider them rock gods.
rock demigods for sure. |
i wouldn't call them rock anything
|
And what about Jarboe and Isobel Sollenberger?
|
Iggy Pop is my Top 50.
|
Quote:
meh is the text equivalent of shrugging one's shoulders. possibly a bit more negative. |
Quote:
Even worse...she was in Starship without the Jefferson. Oh Gracie...did you need the money that bad?? "We built this city on sell-ing out" What about Juliana Hatfield? Tori Amos? They rocked my world. |
HOW COME NONE OF YOU HAVE MENTIONED TOM VERLAINE OR THE OTHER GUITARISTS IN TELEVISION ? They're playing is almost beyond words.
|
Apparently no one likes the name "Stevie". I haven't seen Ray Vaughn or Nicks.
|
stevie ray vaugh is a BLUESMAN. I reserved my top 50 to ROCK people. hence, no johnny cash, no james brown, etc.
