These Arms Are Snakes

Are one great band.

I think I've started one of these before.
Anyone else a fan of their great tunes?

Why do post-hardcore guys always look the same?

Anyways, I'll look into them. Any particular album?

Norma J 02.15.2008 10:21 PM

You've not heard them yet you're calling them 'post-hardcore'?

Get either of their albums. they're both great.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 02.15.2008 10:21 PM

I dig em'. Haven't listened to any of their albums just yet however.

avantgarde1 02.15.2008 10:42 PM

Probably the worst name I've heard yet for a band.

Norma J 02.15.2008 10:55 PM

That's 'cause you're old and have no concept of common day reality.

haha,
I think it's a great band name.

Norma J 02.15.2008 11:13 PM

Yeah, so do I.

They write some of my favourite lyrics too:

When the sun came up on the small block of the city, we needed to find somewhere to drink. Through five days of working and two left to our person, we all needed sometime to breathe. So use your body as the engine for your weekend because this is no time to sleep. I want to create, I don't want to be constricted. I'm sick of working all of the time for someone else's needs. So give me some kind of section for my protection. What is this doing to me? I've got a life and desires, and it's more than to retire. I trust there's more in a life to lead. I want a minute with my woman and an hour outside of this city, and I don't care what you expect of me. No, I don't care what you expect of me. I want to detach this from me. If life is a movement, and I feel like I'm not moving, then what is the sense of giving all of your time away? When I want to go out into the streets, I want to drown myself in the mights touch. I'm never going to sleep again, till the day comes to collect my sin "Just take me home. It's not worth the effort. Just take me home." I've spent many nights in this very cty. It was worthless last time, and it will be this evening. Thank you and goodnight.

Everyneurotic 02.15.2008 11:18 PM

ok band.

botch were much much better.

Norma J 02.15.2008 11:23 PM

No way. They don't sound anything like Botch. You mights of well have just said Sonic Youth.

Ok, I see you were referring to former members now being in TAAS

botch is better than 99.9 percent of any bands that came out from 97-02. the best of the artsy fartsy metal core band, which is pretty fuckin good, considering dillinger escape plan, converge, and coalesce.

Norma J 02.16.2008 01:31 AM

Botch aren't bad. I haven't heard a great deal of them though, not much at all really.

But they're not comparable to These Arms Are Snakes, other than a member or two.

Cantankerous 02.16.2008 01:48 AM

not into it.

PAULYBEE2656 02.16.2008 05:26 AM

i have easter and to be honest i havent really given it much listen. i bought it a while back and was underwhelmed by my first listen. it went on the shelf and never got played again but i am not dismissing them as shit. far from it, i just read so much about how great they were and they didnt live up to it for me, a good band, not a great one.... i could say that for most stuff ive bought from the jade tree label tho....

ill put it on again later in the car tho..........its in my hand now

atsonicpark 02.16.2008 07:29 AM

botch > minus the bear > these arms are snakes.

Norma J 02.16.2008 07:31 AM

HAHA. you guys are crazy. They don't even sound anything alike.

Megadeth>Beefheart>Barney the dinosaur

PAULYBEE2656 02.16.2008 08:03 AM

ok, i listened to the easter album again and i am really meh about them. they are ok, not shit by any means but it will propbably end up on my shelf again for another 12 months.

jimbrim 02.16.2008 08:52 AM

Their first album (Oxeneers or The Lion Sleeps When It's Antelope Go Home) is their best work. Better than Easter anyway.

when there's members or former members of different bands involved, comparisons are inevitable.

swing kids > tristeza > the locust > cattle decapitation.

Norma J 02.16.2008 06:25 PM

Who from These Arms Are Snakes is in Minus the Bear?

I appreciate Easter because of the first album, which, blows my mind. Never tires. But Easter is still a top album.

Listen to Idaho, the last track on Easter, it's a definite highlight, great song.

HaydenAsche 02.16.2008 11:37 PM

No, thanks. Sorry, I'm just not into them.

Botch is the shit, though.

history lesson:

minus the bear and taas both are bands that rose out of botch's break up. one dude formed one band, another formed the other.

atsonicpark 02.17.2008 08:02 AM

Yeah, norma, not trying to be an ass here, but at least try wikipedia before attempting to mock people.

Norma J 02.17.2008 04:24 PM

Had you even heard These Arms Are Snakes before this thread though, was it purely wikipedias opinion? There was no mocking. And I still see no need for comparison. This board does way too much of that. "This is better than that so I don't listen to that because I have to pick one or the other. Why listen to that when I could listen to this".

atsonicpark 02.17.2008 05:17 PM

I compared the three bands because Botch were mentioned. So, I figured I'd add my two cents on that family of bands. It's no big deal. I don't care what anyone listens to.

And I heard this is meant to hurt you ep, oh, 4 or 5 years ago now. It's very very average. I heard another one of their albums (Oxeneer blah blah) a few years ago. It didn't really do anything for me, though I can't deny there being some interest song structures and riffs.

Also, wikipedia doesn't have "opinions". It (usually) states facts with links to other people's opinions. Also, I've never based my opinion off of anything except thoughts I've formed. Finally, I don't reply to threads unless I know what I'm talking about.

Everyneurotic 02.17.2008 07:15 PM

not to gang up on anything but i remember when the first taas ep came out and some reviewer who knew what he was talking about said it was pure garbage so i didn't bother. i then listened to oxeneer and thought it was ok, i actually listened to it a lot because it did grow on me a bit but not that much.

as i said before, they are ok but nothing to write home about, and the botch comparison is because they have a precedent of the people involved in both bands doing something better than "ok". minus the bear are ok-ish too, in my opinion.

atsonicpark 09.20.2008 10:58 AM

Seriously.

therealglenstyler 09.22.2008 10:02 AM

those arms are not snakes, they're just arms.

pbradley 04.05.2010 02:01 PM

Okay, so I really lied that first time about checking them out but I dig this song.
