best happy vocalists

`which singers can always put a smile on your face, or that they seem to be prepetually happy?

for me
brian wilson
avey tare/ panda bear
david byrne
david thomas
thurston moore
the chick from melt bannana
the singer from the sparks
alan bishop

Cantankerous 02.13.2008 06:55 PM

david byrne is much more crazed than happy.

fugazifan 02.13.2008 06:57 PM

agree.

also:
Tim DeLaughter from Tripping Daisy / The Polyphonic Spree
Wayne Coyne from Flaming Lips.

uhler 02.13.2008 08:17 PM

alison wolfe from bratmobile. well, she could fall under the catagory of angry too. happy angry.

batreleaser 02.13.2008 11:17 PM

brian wilson is NOT happy.

i like the rest of your choices, especially alan bishop, and panda bear has a beautiful voice. satomi from deerhoof is great. wayne coyne from anything of the lips alblums prior to at war with the mystics (his voice was one of the most annoying aspects of that very annoying alblum), arthur lee anyone?

LittlePuppetBoy 02.13.2008 11:49 PM

stephen Malkmus
the guy from Cap'N Jazz

LittlePuppetBoy 02.14.2008 12:04 AM

hmm, strange.

uhler 02.14.2008 12:08 AM

oh yeah, tim kinsella is the singers name if you're wondering.

Cantankerous 02.14.2008 12:30 AM

lots of people's voices make me happy. but lots of those people have sad voices.

Cantankerous 02.14.2008 12:36 AM

joey ramone bleated like a goat. it's great.
i generally prefer really not-happy music and especially really not-happy vocals.

ZEROpumpkins 02.14.2008 12:46 AM

Wayne Coyne

Norma J 02.14.2008 01:31 AM

The Flaming Lips make me sad.

ZEROpumpkins 02.14.2008 01:32 AM

Becuase they used to be so good but now are not?

"turn it on"
"frogs"
"talkin bout the smilin deathporn immortality blues" (i think thats the proper title?)
and how could we forget "she don't use jelly"

of course they do have later work which is maybe sad or more tranquil sounding, my personal favourites being "do you realize?" and my very favourite flaming lips song, "are you a hypnotist??"

Actually my Favourite Lip's song is one of their saddest. ""You Have to Be Joking (Autopsy of the Devil's Brain)"
And the proper title is "Talkin' 'Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues (Everyone Wants to Live Forever)"

Death & the Maiden 02.14.2008 05:39 AM

Bjork - In The Sugarcubes' song Birthday.
Joey Ramone definately.

I'd say much the same about Brian Wilson.

Edie Brickell used to make me smile, and Simone White and Karen Carpenter.

It isn't so much what they sing about, just the sound of their voices gives me a lift whenever I hear them.

SYRFox 02.14.2008 07:05 AM
