farting in popular culture
So, I was looking at the fart wikipedia and I discovered this...
![]() That's hilarious! Farts are now mainstream! Or perhaps they have been for a while... "The word fart in Middle English occurs in Chaucer's "Miller's Tale" (one of the Canterbury Tales). In the tale (which is told by a bawdy miller as a group of pilgrims travel to Canterbury), Absolon has already been tricked into kissing Alison's buttocks when he is expecting to kiss her face. Her boyfriend Nicholas hangs his buttocks out of a window, hoping to trick Absolon into kissing his buttocks in turn and then passes gas in the face of his rival." This is great and it makes me wonder about more farting in popular culture. For example, if Brad Pitt has ever gotten on TV, talking about saving rainforest children, and then he just lets one rip and discovers later he took a little shit in his pants? |
Have you been getting 'thread lessons' from Sway? haha it's such a Sway thread.
Actually made me chuckle. |
Nah, cuz Sway's threads are usually things about his life, and I rarely post threads like this, except when I think something is legitimately funny and that people on here would appreciate it.
Though it was more so to post that picture. There's a children's book, in SCHOOL LIBRARIES, starring a big ass farting dog! That's hilarious! The whole concept of the book is that he farts! That's it!!!!! Whereas used to, we'd have a big red dog or something, now we have some smelly ass fart dog! Hahaa! |
farting is now mainstream did u say?
im pretty sure farting has been mainstream for a while..seeings as everyone does it |

i had the girl i tutor read that book to me. it's at the public library in my town. |
You must spread some flatulence before farting on atsonicpark again.
|
i don't fart in public. the end.
|
Yeah, I'm more into underground farts or indie farts than mainstream farts.
|
have you heard the new fart that is coming from japan? "J-Fart" it's called.
it's pretty cool shit, it's just like our farting but a bit more complex and psychadelic in parts. |

Dude, I've seen that book! I don't know if my little sister had it or not, but I've seen it.
|
seriously, look at that fuckin dog!
|
I ressurrected this thread because I never repped norma j's hilarious response before.

Not that I ever read The Adventures of Captain Underpants, but I assume there is farting involved in those books.
Kids would read Captain Underpants all the time when I was in like grade three or something. I'm not sure farting on talk shows will be the in thing anytime soon, because a lot of people would find that a bit rude. One day maybe, but not today or tomorrow haha. Personally I find farts funny depending on the situation. I think it's disgusting that some people walk on by you in a store and just let one rip (although I do laugh at how gross it is), but among friends is no big deal. |
Farting is emo through and through.
|
Farting is popular culture.
The first instance of mindless entertainment, cavemen gathered around people and chuckled at farts thousands of years ago. |
pitchfork gave farting a 6.9
|
What about Rather Ruptured?

It's bad for you to hold farts in. I heard that on Oprah once.

I'm talking shit. Pun intended. |
Apparently they back up and end up coming out of your ears.:(
|
If you don't go for a piss for long enough then you can't stop crying yellow tears.
|
I think someone should write a limerick or two about the positive aspects of letting go of your farts.
|
Yes, Toilette and Bowels would be the one to do it with that name.

Aristophanes was cracking fart jokes some 2,400 years ago.
He often poked fun at well-known persons in Athens, and his comedy "Clouds" features Socrates "farting under the covers" having a hard time getting up out of bed in the morning and postulating that the sound of thunder is produced when clouds fart. The play contains numerous other risque references about penis size, masturbation, and poop as well. The satire has a message, however, about the importance of free speech in a democratic society. Many seem to know "Lysistrata," perhaps his out-and-out masterpiece, but "Clouds" is great stuff too. |
I feel like I've heard of Clouds more than Lysistrata, actually. Though I haven't seen or read anything by him. I think I own them though, somewhere.

I like that story about Morrisey being horrified by Patti Smith when he went to one of her press conferences to write an article for a fanzine and she kept farting and talking bollocks. Prissy queen couldn't believe how unpoetical of her that was.
|
I still believe that girl's don't fart, but have a smarter, way more elegant way of letting the redundant gas out.
|
If talking is elegant...
|
|
Photoshopped. The reflections are all wrong.
|
No, you're wrong, why deny the truth ?
|
oops
(just farted) |
