will Thurston tour behind TOTA?
 

I'm hoping he does some sort of mini-solo tour in support of the album. And if he does, hopefully he'll hit Chicago. Perhaps the Double Door? Just wondering what your thoughts were....

i hope not, i can't stand his moles and his sassiness. i haven't heard the new album.. does he sing all the notes he plays on guitar on EVERY SINGLE SONG?

The plans are to tour around December.

he's performing solo at atp, so the likelihood is yes.

Thurston will definitely be doing some dates (with a band) in support of Trees Outside the Academy. At this point, it's looking like East Coast at the end of September and then West Coast and Midwest later in the fall. And yes, ATP and some of Europe in December.

hopefully the ATP appearance could be an impetus for a brief UK jaunt (unlikely tho)

Yeah I certainly hope so.. As much as I want to go ATP, I'm only 17 and you have to be 18+ to get to these damn ATP thingies. And it costs too much to risk not being let in...

Thanks for the responses guys (and gals). I figured he'd at least do a few solo shows but didn't know if any actual touring was in the works. Glad to hear it is! And don't worry ripchord. I guess you could say I once "hated being young" but before you know it, you'll wake up one day and go shit, now I'm getting old! :)

I don't recall seeing any evidence at last year's NBC of people being required to prove their ages in order to get in, and I don't recall there being anything on the ticket or accompanying documentation saying that it was necessary to bring proof of your age. Unless you're a young-looking 17, I wouldn't worry about not being allowed in, and once you are in, just don't do anything especially dumb to bring attention to yourself. I'd suggest that you don't book through wegottickets, though, unless you have your own debit card to book with, as you may have to present the card that you booked with to get in.

That's close to what the Psychic Hearts solo set I saw was! It wasn't that long, but it was about double the song on the album, and that's all they played. It was 11 in the morning at this tiny record store called Rodeo Records in Ellensburg WA (SY was playing the Gorge that night opening for REM, which I also went to, but the solo set was the highlight of the experience.) Thurston was literally waking up playing his guitar. It was sooo good.

cool. i have a radio interview thurston did w/ KNDD seattle around eeeh i'm gonna say lollapalooza, and he talks about psychic hearts and that show in particular. something about how they couldnt run vocals thru the PA so they just did instrumentals. its actually a good interview, if i recall...

It's funny, because I think I saw them play in Seattle that year or the year after and some idiot dj from KNDD ("The End") came out to announce them and got booed off the stage. Which was great because they are a horrible "commercial alternative" station that has basically ignored Sonic Youth's records for their entire existence while paying to put "KNDD Presents" on practically every Sonic Youth show to come through the city. It was a joy to realize that Sonic Youth fans in general weren't falling for that bullshit.
