Why do they play such a big amount of downers in bars and pubs?
 

Fucking hell, the amount of depressing music that they play in bars and pubs is spellbinding. It's a trend, trust me. I mean, if you were about to slit your wrists, wouldn't you rather do it to something a little more upbeat?

This happens on the weekend in my town too.

Perhaps I am, the thing is that in a lot of pubs they tend to play stupidly sentimental music, which I find generally depressing. There is a time for that, sure, but I hear a lot of what you call music for bedwetters around.

There is a lot of bedwetter music around generally. So they're bound to be playing it in bars, I suppose.

Maybe research has found that there are more fights when upbeat music is playing?

Then again, people do things faster to faster music. So fast music = drinking faster = more drink purchased?

downer music at bars fits the whole endeavor. bars are depressing as fuck. wekll, most of them are, and most of the people who are "regulars" are there to drink their life away. alcoholism is just a slow suicide. and those that drink the hard stuff only, are ussually depressed people, whether they were that way or the drinking fucked them up and made them that way.

Pubs are as depressing enough as it is, even without music. The dank atmosphere, the smell of urine and lager, the dark wood, the omnipresent mumbling, the ridiculous crap on the walls- like toby jugs and old 1940s ad posters-, the fact that people are drinking at 2 in the afternoon, the bartender with the gravy stains on his bargain-basement nike t-shirt..

I just recently came back from Spain (family visit) and the amount of genuinely disgusting English people that had taken over the bars was a real source of depression. Never been more ashamed to be English in my life.

Hell is Benidorm. I can't believe how many 'Man U Bar's there are. Why do people haul their greasy arses out of pubs in england to get on a RyanAir jet to some foreign equivalent of Blackpool to sit in a DIFFERENT pub with the same english scum?

Totally agree. Loads of blokes wondering around in England shirts, ordering pints of Stella and chatting up perma-tan girls from Bolton. I'd rather eat my own shit.

Seriously, Working Man's Pubs are one thing, stick those people in some Nike sandals and expose them to 90+ heat and you have a social catastrophe.

at bars i prefer downtempo music, so that i can talk to people, relax, enjoy my drink etc. fortunaty there's a huge variety of bars, that play different music, so in that aspect i think we are well served. if i want some action i go to some club where they play live music or live sets or whatever.

Another profiteering example is when they provide zero seating so you get sick of holding your drink, and hence drink quicker. Its a conspiracy man!

I try to go only to bars where they've got like a beer garden or patio. Sitting inside them is depressing as fuck, and scary sometimes.

alcohol alone is sad alot of the time. i usaly try to avoid it, plus i dont hold me water to well

its probably to do with the fact that the masses go to the pub and the masses are asses (thanks kegmama) who will listen to whatever gets ramed down theyre pathetic ears and talk about how 'genius' things are and wait for life to bring the bottle again.
