£1 = US$2

First time in almost 15 years.

So those CDs purchased direct from US shops/labels/artists by UK buyers have just got even cheaper! Wahey!

Pookie 04.17.2007 05:58 AM

I thought it was always roughly £1:$2.

sonicl 04.17.2007 06:02 AM

Not far from it, but this is the first time it's actually crossed the $2 mark since September 1992.

(Economics was one of my A-levels, and I still find this sort of thing vaguely interesting)

jon boy 04.17.2007 06:14 AM

hooray for everything!

i remember when £1 was over 2 deutch marks. what a time i had in the record shops of east germany.

Gulasch Noir 04.17.2007 06:34 AM

1 Euro (EUR) = 1.35530 US Dollar (USD)

Good for US-Export and Gulasch Noir's Import from the US.

fishmonkey 04.17.2007 06:39 AM

£1 = €900

If you think, that's teh actual conversion ratio, then no wonder, why you keep refusing the EURO.
1 GBP= 1.46783 Euro

Pookie 04.17.2007 06:45 AM

Fishmonkey has the Euro, but he's Irish, and they're more intelligent than the British, so Euros must be better.

Iain 04.17.2007 07:35 AM

I remember the dark days when the Dollar was stronger...about $1.7 to the pound or even dipping into the $1.6 teritory possibly.

Time to buy stuff!

jon boy 04.17.2007 08:24 AM

i am already compiling lists. more so than i already do and thats a lot.

Iain 04.17.2007 08:37 AM

I don't usually do lists but, incidentally, I have been this morning. There's a seller on ebay that has a lot of reissue LPs of varying genres and I want to get a bunch. Depending on how much shipping is I might get 5 or 6.

Pookie 04.17.2007 08:46 AM

Well, I can honestly say I didn't expect this thread to get so many responses.

Well 16.67% of them are yours.

Iain 04.17.2007 08:58 AM

Sadly, I quite like looking at exchange rates. "Oooh, 204 yen to the pound" is a phrase not unlikely to be uttered from my lips.

jon boy 04.17.2007 08:58 AM

i do a lot of lists at work i have found. usually they are for uselss things and they get put in the bin. when i am at home i do write down general ones of things i want/need and now the £££ is strong i will take advantage and actually use it.

But I had nothing to do with the other 93.33%.

sonicl 04.17.2007 09:00 AM

I like to have a rough idea of $ to £ and Euro to £ exchange rates, simply because it saves me having to refer to an exchange rate calculator every times I'm about to buy something from the US or Europe.

Danny Himself 04.17.2007 10:08 AM

This is awesome.

king_buzzo 04.17.2007 10:10 AM

woo! I dont use the 2.

jon boy 04.17.2007 10:11 AM

i tend to know and can calculate it from living abroad.

tesla69 04.17.2007 10:12 AM

Now how can I rationalize ordering the new Ken Bruen novel from the UK?

Tokolosh 04.17.2007 10:18 AM

Now's a good time to visit New York... Um... maybe not.

Jt 04.17.2007 10:32 AM

This is righteous. In England we always get fucked over by high pricing as our currency is worth more than most. When it comes to importing stuff from just about anywhere else in the world though... YEARGH!

The old maxim is that whatever you can buy for £1 over here you can buy for $1 in the US of A. If that really is the case, I might as well buy all my shit from over there in future. Even with shipping prices included ($4/£2.00 per CD), it'll still work out a fair bit cheaper.

I'm going to Hong Kong this summer - hopefully the rates are still going to be sky high.

EDIT: I suppose our exporters are going to be none-too-pleased. Plus tourists - this is already one of the most expensive places in the world for Americans to visit because of the exchange rate.

!@#$%! 04.17.2007 12:04 PM

problem w/ the strong currency is that it hampers your exports. my local mini cooper dealer must be biting his nails in anguish. or is there a way to counter that, ye economics aficionados?

Пятхъдесят Шест 04.17.2007 04:24 PM

Well, Sonicl.

The £4 you sent for the mix tapes gave me $7.57. Pretty darn close.

drrrtyboots 04.17.2007 04:25 PM

Thanks george!
