Non-SY fans wearing Goo tshirts

.......

Toilet & Bowels 04.01.2007 05:52 AM

the world is going to shit, and sonic youth are past their best too.

pokkeherrie 04.01.2007 05:54 AM

HE wuzn't a tr00 fan yet he wore an SY shirt!!!???

so?

Glice 04.01.2007 06:15 AM

I'm not too worried. If it were anything other than the Goo tee it'd be rubbish, but that's such a gorgeous pic I can't be bothered to care. I've seen one of the Sugababes in said tee... possibly Mutya.

Oh, hi there irrelevant post, long time no see.

pokkeherrie 04.01.2007 06:18 AM

Well you don't need a permit or official fan license to wear Sonic Youth shirts. He might just like the Goo cover, which is indeed pretty great.
But I agree that it's a bit silly when people wear band shirts purely as a fashion statement or whatever though. A friend once said something clever in a club about the VU shirt some dude was wearing and then the dude replied "I don't really know them; I just liked the shirt." End of conversation.

Oh, hi there glice.

Sure can! "I" is written as a capital.

Washing Machine 04.01.2007 06:42 AM

Its the sudden respect Sarramkrop! When you are wearing a SY or VU tshirt particularly at a club or some music affiliated place people have more respect for you, more people talk to you and more people have time for you (I had my Experimental, Jet set shirt on in a club one night..never again). Its extremely sad I know! Talk to them for 5mins they always get caught out.

I know everyone thinks it probebly because the said person just likes the picture but thats very unlikely...its probebly just some dumb attempt to look 'Cool'

Back in the 90's an uncle saw me in my Washing Machine shirt and said the name Sonic Youth sounded like they're a christian rock band. My uncle's not very "cool" though.

Washing Machine 04.01.2007 07:10 AM

The only purpose they serve as I can see is attracting the attention of like minded people. But this never happens in my experience they usually dig 'Dirty boots' and think they are the coolest thing since Iggy Pop took a dump.

That reminds me I was at a My Chemical Romance gig (yes, yes, yes...the first 2 albums rock I don't care what you say) and some guy said to me "I'm too cool for this gig really...I'M A BLEEDING THROUGH fan". And i'm thinking like dude we're at a MCR gig we both left the right to be called 'cool' at the door when we bought these tickets.

Haha, that's hilarious. Even if it were a Yanni show, just the fact that somebody actually said "I'm too cool for this gig" is just pathetic :)

Haha...

MellySingsDoom 04.01.2007 08:46 AM

A mate of mine once called me a wanker for wearing an Einsturzende Neubauten T-shirt.

Wait a minute, he was talking about the shirt, wasn't he?...

Ripchord 04.01.2007 08:46 AM

I saw a girl at school a few months ago wearing a SY shirt and i was wearing the same one so i asked her if she liked them and she didn't even know that it was a band. I guess that's what they get for selling SY shirts at Urban Outfitters.

It depends what uncomprimising stains you had on the tshirt I suppose...

MellySingsDoom 04.01.2007 09:19 AM

At least it distracted him from the jizz stains I had in my hair.

MCR are awesome. I think people don't like them because, unlike most ugly gobshites with guitars, they can actually write a chorus and that Gerard chap is a handsome fucker. Oh, and actual girls like them as well.

ALIEN ANAL 04.01.2007 09:25 AM

MCR are not awesome .

demonrail666 04.01.2007 09:29 AM

I remember buying a Cramps shirt as a kid long before hearing their music. I was really into comics and horror films and stuff like that and just thought it was a drawing of some cartoon zombie gang or something.

well porkie what can i say, the world is coming to an end and our very way of life is threatened at the core.

i am burning all my sonic youth shirts immediately, or better yet, giving them to goodwill (an american charity shop) so that some unschooled pauper gets to wear them in the supermarket parking lot he inhabits while i confine myself to an exclusive attire of fake fur tshirts devoid of any logos or propaganda.

thurston on the other hand must be laughing his way to the bank as we speak...

ALIEN ANAL 04.01.2007 09:35 AM

i use to wear a Bad Religion shirt but it was because i liked what was on it. I didnt like the band or anything, and most people around here had no idea. I loved the old peoples reactions to it.

THANK YOU!
'Three Cheers..' and 'bullets..' are 2 really great records. Not too keen on the last one but thats just me...

"Another knife in my hands
A stain that never comes off the sheets
Clean me off
I'm so dirty babe
The kind of dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes
I keep a book
of the names and those"

- 'I Never told you what I do for a living'

Glice 04.01.2007 10:10 AM

I like the new one. That first single was an piece of sublime absurdity. Lush. But yeah, Bullets is outstanding. It's been years since I got into a proper 'rock' band llike I have MCR this last year or so.

Oh, and a hearty fuck you to the MCR haterzz.

screamingskull 04.01.2007 10:35 AM

People wearing sonic youth shirts as a fashion statement does bother me. Years ago this girl at my school showed me her new sex pistols shirt and asked me if i liked it, i said "yeah, do you have that album?" and she said no, i told her off.

Washing Machine 04.01.2007 10:36 AM

Some people just cant get over the fact some records are good because they are just plain fun. Yes I love putting my headphones on and getting lost in 'Kid A' or sipping my coffee and listening to Cage as much as the next guy but sometimes you just wanna rock out and sing 'So give me all your poison and give me all your pills...'

Plus they put on one hell of a show

jon boy 04.01.2007 10:37 AM

i am not really that bothered by anyone wearing a goo to shirt. the people who do and are non fans probably paid a fortune for them so i laugh.

there is something that makes the thought of mutya wearing a goo t shirt stir within me.

screamingskull 04.01.2007 10:54 AM

what about this?, does this piss you off?

val-holla-ing 04.01.2007 10:57 AM

i suppose it would if the pic would actually show up.

MellySingsDoom 04.01.2007 10:58 AM

There's perverts out there who I'm sure have knocked out a few to the above picture. Mind you, I suppose "Got spunk on your lips?" isn't particularly catchy.

The name does sound somewhat Christian rockish.

Green_mind 04.01.2007 12:05 PM

Didn't the singer from that terrible excuse for a band 'Busted' wear Sonic Youth T-shirts? I mean, thats wrong as cheese!

Washing Machine 04.01.2007 12:22 PM

Just because he was in Busted doesnt mean he doesn't like Sonic Youth. Some of the most unexpected people turn out to be big fans

True yeah, but still, it remains wrong as cheese.

Washing Machine 04.01.2007 02:07 PM

Haha I see what you did...
You made me look back and check if I actually wrote 'Fag'
I though it was some manifestation of repressed Homophobia

Brett Robinson 04.01.2007 02:22 PM

I've got a few band t-shirts of bands I've never even heard before.

I like the designs, and I like the novelty of wearing a band shirt of some band I've never heard.

WHO GIVES A SHIT???

Trasher02 04.01.2007 03:04 PM

Rip that bastard his T-shirt

jon boy 04.01.2007 03:18 PM

I never really got into Bad Religion myself, but a lot of my friends swear by them.

I always thought this was a cool shirt:

although I don't think I'd question anyone wearing that, if it was a band that I liked more I might be tempted to say something about the band along with the shirt.

if they then told me they knew nothing that band, I think I'd get pretty snarky.

I'd wear this on a shirt no matter what band's album it was on.
