You're on a deserted island...
you can have one Sonic Youth mp3 of your choice...
or you can have 20 gigs of death metal in your self-recharging mp3 player.

Which do you rather have?

sarramkrop 03.22.2007 09:40 AM

20 gigs of death metal, with no doubt.

atsonicpark 03.22.2007 09:43 AM

uh, 20 gigs of death metal.

but anyway, if it were one sonic youth mp3, it'd be terry's carrot.

jon boy 03.22.2007 09:45 AM

death.

Pookie 03.22.2007 09:46 AM

I'd have a wind-up gramaphone.

tesla69 03.22.2007 09:54 AM

SYR3 - one long track

death metal is shit

Everyneurotic 03.22.2007 10:01 AM

death metal, 20 gigs (are we talking gigabytes or gigs as in bootlegs? anyway, it's all good!); enough so that by the end i would be so sick of everything i'd have no choice but to kill myself and end that shitty deserted island nightmare.

seriously, one sonic song doesn't cut it.

Rob Instigator 03.22.2007 10:03 AM

Diamond Sea.

It would be what i wuold listen to as the sun set on the desert island every night.

nicfit 03.22.2007 10:10 AM

Schizophrenia
and I'd cry every single time when it goes like "Schizophrenia is taking me home".

Richard Pryor on Fire 03.22.2007 10:47 AM

I'd get like something really poppy to keep my spirits up, I'd like to see if Teenage Riot could still make me happy on a island.

SYRFox 03.22.2007 11:01 AM

Trilogy OR NYC Ghosts & Flowers. Can't choose

clever name 03.22.2007 12:20 PM

Beautiful Plateau or New Hampshire

pokkeherrie 03.22.2007 12:42 PM

definitely the 20 gigs of death metal.

some of it would actually be good, while other stuff would provide me with some necessary good laughs to keep up the morale.

king_buzzo 03.22.2007 12:49 PM

I'd bring a cd player and screw yr mp3's

atari 2600 03.22.2007 12:53 PM

But you have no cd player, only a cruddy mp3 player...but at least it has a built-in recharging unit and NiCad batteries (or the like) that should last five to ten years.

pokkeherrie 03.22.2007 12:56 PM

dear god, possibly the only thing worse than being on a deserted island would be being on an island that's deserted apart from king_buzzo... no offence.

andrei 03.22.2007 12:56 PM

blood crystalized to sand... the diamond sea

You can live there more than 1 week, i think...

atari 2600 03.22.2007 01:01 PM

I'd make sure to take care and keep the headphones in good working order, and I also like The Diamond Sea as a strong candidate for the mp3 that I wish I would have with me.

noumenal 03.22.2007 01:01 PM

Death metal only sounds good on vinyl, so I'll go with, uh, Hits of Sunshine?

No. Slaapkamers Met Slagroom.
Yes.

Richard Pryor on Fire 03.22.2007 01:55 PM

I'm repicking, I'd pick the song with the most nutrients, what SY songs have food references in them.... I can't think of any right now, bubblegum? that won't last. And you can't live off of Orange Rolls and Angel Spit...

Hip Priest 03.22.2007 02:50 PM

I think perhaps the version of 'Rain on Tin' from the 'Murray Street' live performance. Or the whole show.

Haha, I'd eat you if that happened.

How about Creme Brulee? Sugar Kane?

Come to think of it, Dirty has quite a lot of food song titles in it...

atari 2600 03.22.2007 04:14 PM

This thread deals with an admittedly nonsensical hypothetical situation, so I especially appreciate all the replies.

Yes, one could pick either side A or side B of Sonic Death, good point.

atari 2600 03.22.2007 06:05 PM

I haven't done that yet. Is it during hour two?
I checked the site and it really doesn't say, although that's what one would gather since only 3-sectional love seat is listed as being played.

I want to download it and cut out the Steve interview and burni it like I did last time with the Thurston phone interview. I love how Watt always plays some Coltrane tracks or some live Trane from his collection. His is the best show on internet radio, weekly or otherwise.

screamingskull 03.22.2007 06:09 PM

Sonic Youth - Sugar Cane

Ive already listened to that about a million times in a row, and it takes a long time to get boring, so i know i would be okay.

jakeonguitar 03.22.2007 06:14 PM

Death metal is garbage.

I'd go with The Diamond Sea, doesn't matter [much] which version.

RdTv 03.22.2007 06:25 PM

Greeting all, I am aware at the fact that this thread isn't really the proper thread to interject and send a salud from my travels but, oh well get over it.

Just returned from Bangkok back to the hazey streets of Hong Kong, all is well and I've become addicted to haggling vendors on their ''guilo'' or white ghost prices.

Far as the mp3 or 20 gigs of metal, well I don't hate death metal but I don't love it 20 gigs more than one of these:

Diamond Sea
Madonna, Sean and Me
Rain On Tin
I Love Her All The Time
Kotton Krown
Hoarfrost

I Know six isn't a well rounded number for ''top'' lists but it will have to suffice. The question is picking one of those....arrrgggghhhh!

Toilet & Bowels 03.22.2007 07:31 PM

i'd probably go for an mp3 of sonic death. although it would depend on what the death metal was, if i could choose the 20gigs then it would be a different story to 20 gigs of random stuff

One Sonic Youth mp3 - SY_discography.mp3

real_inhuman 03.23.2007 08:02 AM

^ yeah on HD DVD

Protectmeyou 03.23.2007 08:27 PM

I'd go with 20g of death metal. Amongst Mordid Angel, Nihilist, Carcass, Sadistik Exekution, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Destroyer 666, Entombed and the other 19 gig, I'd be quite entertained. (If not a little pissed off with the world and in need of a virgin sacrifice to Satan, my lord and master)

Rain on Tin for me. Fairly optimistic one. First I was thinking about NYCG&F but it gets quite depressive after a while.
