LR Solo Acoustic Songs Tour

LR Solo Acoustic Songs Tour - Europe Oct/Nov 2014.
While the members of The Dust are scattered to the four winds for a little while, I’m undertaking a solo acoustic tour in Europe. The plan is to play selections from the two albums, some covers and hopefully some of the new songs I’m currently working on, and to play them as most of them originated – on acoustic guitars, in stripped down style. Guitar and voice, little or no fuzz. Anyway that’s the plan right now, this will be a further ‘acoustic experiment’ for me. We’ve sought out small capacity, intimate venues with good acoustics for these shows. Hope to see some of you along the way–

The Cafe Oto gig is on my birthday, also known as Weird Al's birthday. Also known as Pele's birthday. Also known as Dale Crover's birthday.

If you're going I'm cycling to Cafe Oto and wait for you outside so I won't disturb the acoustic gig. I promise to take my shoes off too.

Dale's birthday, all right! Pelé, on the other hand, has become an unsufferable asshole - not as bad as Maradona, but still...

Why are so many artists keen on doing an acoustic record and tour?
Acoustic songs are often pretty boring.
I hope Lee proves me wrong on this one.

A Thousand Threads 08.14.2014 04:33 AM

It's the take my bedroom to the stage thing.
And in your bedroom you sleep, fuck and play boring sad songs.
Most people aren't Annie Sprinkle so it leaves you sleeping while Lee touches his acoustic.

Rob Instigator 08.14.2014 08:21 AM

it is a cheaper tour. acoustic guitars, some strings, wireless mike, done. much easier logistically than taking a full electric band.

_tunic_ 08.15.2014 11:04 AM

unless it's going to be the same as the J Mascis solo tour, which set started pretty much acoustic, until he pressed his pedals

is there any chance some more dates will be added, closer to the more important countries of Europe? :D

Love the cover btw!

nice concert in lisbon. with acoustic guitar he's kind of a story teller. but in some moments some electric exploration would be welcome. the church where he palyed has a great acoustic , i think he didn't need the guitar amplified, or to much amplified , sometimes the sound was to loud and mess with the acoustic.
he's was very talking, between songs he explained there meaning, talk about his career, was like a friend who came to our house with a guitar.
in the first set a minimal experimental exploration with margarida garcia (electric upright bass ) + manuel mota (guitar), great portugese improvisers who knew to explore the sound in the context of the place.
They played one dark bluesy composition, with a nice balance between silence and noise.
here are some nice photos :

hi all! how you've been! it's been some time, since i typed something here. glad to be back again. hope you're all o.k.

amazing 2 shows in Ireland. thanks very much to whoever organized it and also thanks to Lee for coming to play. really intimate acoustic session with tiny bit of fuzz. it is always pleasure to see Lee playing. he's pretty much alive, still kicking nice gems. seriously true artist now. i am glad i could say halo to him.

i liked both gigs, Dublin one was in a little venue/bar and Waterford in church, which was really cool. i have recorded both gigs. if any interest let me know and i will gladly upload them on here if you want.

here's Dublin's setlist (24/10/14)

TNC
OTW
K/H
ANGLES

uhmm, i think second recording turn out to be better, probably because of church setting and its acoustics. needs a bit of amplification i think, whereas first one needs to be normalized. recorded on Zoom H2.

Hey thanks for posting the recordings. Shows so far have been really fun, given I've never really done this before! That church in Waterford had such great acoustics, that was a really fun show. We've been recording most of these shows as well, but certainly great to have these recordings too - thanks for posting and nice t see you---

Hey Lee,

great to see you replying here, are there any plans with the recordings you've been doing? Live album, DVD,...?

I've seen the OTO gig on youtube

Yes it was my intention to work up that acoustic version of Rats, and maybe Wishfulfillment and a couple others but life got in the way - the month before this tour started was crazy w a bunch of unexpected things... Hopefully I'll be able to pull them out in the future... I hope to do some US dates at some point... The 'second half' of our tour starts tomorrow here in Athens!

We've been recording many of the shows - but as the 'Acoustic Dust' album just came out (selling CDs at the shows, vinyl hits Nov 10) I'm not sure there's any other immediate acoustic release plans...

got the cd on the show. very good recording. shoot....did not know about vinyl version coming out!

Wishfulfillment? that would be just too much to take. don't spoil us that much Lee. ;-)

Lovely show in Milan, even if the location wasn't as special as in other dates of this tour.

Such a gentleman indeed, as greenlight said.
Oh, I forgot to ask about this after the show, but what about those TV cameras (I saw them going inside while I was waiting in line to get in, but I didn't notice them near the stage till the very last song)? I saw RAI's (italy's national public broadcasting company) logos on them, so perhaps they were there just to get some short footage for a TV News program.

For those interested in gear/his setup for this tour, here's what (I think) he used on stage:

Radial - J48

Tech 21 - SansAmp Para Driver DI
TC Electronic - Polytune mini
Ibanez - AD80
Sarno Music Solutions - Earth Drive
TC Electronic Ditto - Looper x2
