Best new/most anticipated albums of 2020

So, what's happening in 2020 that we're excited for? I haven't seen anything yet (or at least, anything that fits here). But we'll get into it. |
Apparently The Cure got three albums in the works. And one of them is supposed to be an incredibly dark labor of love that was initially supposed to drop around Halloween, then was said to release before Christmas. As the weeks have progressed, it seemed increasingly unlikely. So next year maybe? Anyway, whatever they got cookin' sounds interesting and I'm really looking forward to it, even though I'm fully aware that at this stage they haven't really released anything exciting in many years and it might not be that good. But one can dream, right? Stranger things have happened.
Edit: All signs point towards the band getting really bitter, unless they pull a Kevin Shields and just drop it one of these days without warning. |
Yooooo... this is usually a thread that my ass makes.
I’m super angry but I’ll get over it, carry on. Kendrick Lamar |

Anyway I'll copy/paste what I already wrote on the 2019 thread: Oiseaux Tempete will release a new soundtrack album in January or February : https://oiseaux-tempete.bandcamp.com...ortil-ge-o-s-t https://www.subrosa.net/en/catalogue...e-tlamess.html |
Haha! I had a vague recollection that he had seen his arse about it before and there it is. Bless.
|
In my defence we'd started the 2019 thread this time last year.

Except for their self-titled album because I basically challenge anyone who grew up in the Nirvana era to look me in the eye and claim they weren’t pumped as hell about that Nirvana-meets-Sugar masterstroke of an alt-rock album. And Colour & the Shape has some nice moments too. Like My Hero. But yeah, for the last 20 years they’ve been one of the most consistently basic ass bands in the world. Can’t say I hate them because who hates Dave Grohl legitimately? But they represent the laziest kind of barely there stadium alt, blah. |

Vyva Melinkolya - whose self-titled album I love - have an EP coming out on January 10th (announced on Facebook). This one has an actual band on it, probably.
(Give her a look @nycgaf15, she's probably up your alley) |

This was actually announced almost two years ago! Some descriptions say there are actually four CDs: Cotton Eyed Joe (double), Green Rocky Road, and a fourth of "unreleased home recordings" (that's where you find the Billie Holiday cover). PLUS a DVD "of a film interview of Greenwich Village Folklore Center founder Izzy Young". PLUS a "large T-shirt" (no, seriously, check the description on Amazon). The cover makes me think there's no DVD nor, um, apparel, and that the CDs, whether 3 or 4, cover all the sonic ground mentioned in this paragraph. [Sigh.] |
Stephen Malkmus - Traditional Techniques
|
Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt (drums) and Ty Segall (everything else) have formed a band, Wasted Shirt. Their album Fungus II is out February 28. (Pitchfork)
|
We all know Raül Refree from his recent collaborations with Lee, but this other album he made with Portuguese Fado singer Lina will be released tomorrow! It's getting a 7.7 rating on Pitchfork. Here is the bandcamp link. So far only one track is streaming, but I really like the instrumentation on it. It's sounds a bit like Nils Frahm. Here is the video of the same song (and there are some more vids on that account) Quote:

Motherfucker LOLOLOL Anyway, there’s this new album by this Cape (Antonionian $ Doseone) and it’s pretty impressive. Short little thing but hits the right notes for the electronic music fiend. http://doseone.bandcamp.com/album/cape |

I listened to the new AJJ record yesterday. Seems pretty samey; it's a very acoustic album and it offers predictable lyricism r.e. Trump. But, I like AJJ, so I don't really have any complaints about it.

Andrew Jackson Jihad? Yeah, can’t relate get with it. |
Yeah, the band formerly known as Andrew Jackson Jihad - changed their name a couple years back because a) they didn't want to 'glorify' Jackson and b) they aren't Muslim and didn't think it appropriate.
They're one of those bands where, if you're in tune to their aesthetic, you'll adore them, but otherwise just regard them with indifference. Being the angst-filled whiny teen I am, it's perfect for me :D In other news - new Eminem record as a surprise. |

Surprisingly crap. Actually kind of par for the course crap. Crazy how he can rap quickly though, amirite |
