10,000 Days packaging

I picked up the new Tool album yesterday because it was on sale for $9.99. Having heard the album already, I figured what the hell...fair price.

YOU HAVE TO SEE THE INSIDE ART! Worth the price even without the CD inside. I've never seen anything like this in a contemporary release.

youthoftomorrow 05.06.2006 12:40 PM

yeah, it's pretty crazy. my friend bought a copy and i spent all of chemistry class looking through it.

xpresswaytoyrskull 05.06.2006 12:42 PM

I got an advance copy so I've been looking at it for weeks, truly amazing stuff. Reminds me of Viewmaster. You should go back to where ever you bought it and see if they have these clear pastic Tool bags because supposedly the key to deciphering the artwork in the CD packaging is on this bag. I've heard that you have to look at the bag with the same viewer but I'm not sure.

krastian 05.06.2006 01:47 PM

Mine is still in the mail. Can't wait to get it.

irony.

ozZuB-ginK 05.06.2006 03:15 PM

tool always comes up with great artwork for their records, even though alex grey did the last 2 but you know what i mean..

Yeah, but this a whole other level. If album packaging was more often like this and you could buy it the first week for 10 bucks, I'd have a huge CD collection and a lot more hard drive space.

And I remember when Pulse by Pink Floyd came out I thought that blinking red light was cool...geez

L. Ron Hubbard 05.06.2006 03:52 PM

so, is it cool to ask for a quick review of the album?

Tool, or shit, whichever you prefer.

xpresswaytoyrskull 05.06.2006 04:06 PM

It sounds like Lateralus.

i don't agree, the production on the album is completely different to lateralus. maynards vocals are more dry and less effected than on previous releases. there are less songs playing in alternate time signatures than aenima or lateralus.

the album is a far more personal one lyrically than they have done before, with 20minutes of it being a duology written for maynards mother called wings for marie / 10000 days (wings pt2). adam's guitar sound is more like aenima as is danny's drums sound while justin's bass sound is lateralus based. aswell as being a more personal album it is also a more polital album with vicarious and right in two being political in nature.

there is an interview at this link which is quite good

http://www.triplej.net.au/topshelf/default.htm

krastian 05.06.2006 06:34 PM

I heard it was more like Aenima than Lateralus.....a little more heavy. I've only heard Vicarious.

Neongod 05.06.2006 10:12 PM

It's more like Lateralus musically, but it's a very angry album for the most part. Seems Maynard is pissed at the "idiot-king"...hahaha. GW for those that haven't listened to the interview.

Alex's Trip 05.06.2006 10:21 PM

I bought one from wallmart today. Do you think wallmart will have edited it? They are big on editing things. What do you think.

trainyard bliss 05.07.2006 12:40 AM

i really can't decide if it sounds more like lateralus or aenima. i kinda feel like it sounds as though they recorded it in between the two.

That's what I heard.....that it sounds more like a follow up to Aenima.

terminal pharmacy 05.07.2006 02:02 AM

i would say listen to it for what it is, a really fucking good album, as usual like tool albums are it takes lots of listens to start breaking the surface

krastian 05.07.2006 02:18 AM

I thought Vicarious was fucking awesome. Especially the last minute or so of it.

terminal pharmacy 05.07.2006 02:20 AM

wings for marie / 10k days (wings pt2) is some of the best shit they have done for ages

Neongod 05.07.2006 12:02 PM

I love Right In Two at the moment. Great lyrics, great music...sounds a bit like Pushit Live in the beginning.

DO NOT buy any music from Wal Mart. They do censor music, though good luck to them on Rosetta Stoned. You'll know what I mean if you hear it.

Alex's Trip 05.07.2006 12:54 PM

...The thing is, I asked a couple employees and they said that if they were edited it would say something. I checked front to back on this thing and I can't find anything that says it is. I checked on other CD's there that I know have explicit stuff in it and I found the 'edited' mark right on it very easily. It is a gift for my dad, and I couldn't go to Bestbuy where I know it wouldn't be edited. I'll just tell him and he can do what he wants with it.

Alex's Trip 05.07.2006 12:57 PM

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4891162

It says it isn't edited...

h8kurdt 05.07.2006 01:16 PM

Why the hell do they feel the need to edit music? Some 53yr old guy isn't gonna go to fucking walmart and on whim buy a Slayer album are they? Fuckin idiots wal mart are fuckin idiots.

Alex's Trip 05.07.2006 02:26 PM

I think some parent sued them because there was some swearing on an evanesence album that their child bought. It was ridiculous. It wasn't walmarts fault that (whoever puts the explicit stickers there) didn't put one there.

terminal pharmacy 05.07.2006 05:05 PM

there is nothing to edit on the 10k days there is no swearing

i just noticed that earlier today. i love pushit. seems like i'm still waiting for right in two to sink in though.

noisemachine 05.07.2006 09:14 PM

I just can't get into it at all. I saw them at Coachella and they were great, but this new album just sounds like they've recycled old riffs and ideas. I've only heard it in its entirety 3 or 4 times so maybe I need to let it sink in, but it just feels so tedious. I dont understand why they feel the need to use up the entire 80 minutes for each album. More is not always better...

Alex's Trip 05.07.2006 10:43 PM

Wow...the packaging is fucking amazing. I love the 3D.

terminal pharmacy 05.08.2006 04:34 AM

this album feels short to me to listen to, i put it on and then it finishes.

Alex's Trip 05.08.2006 08:21 AM

Wha? I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but even a couple songs seems to last a long time.

Yes there is.

Alex's Trip 05.08.2006 01:06 PM

Yeah, in Rosetta Stoned it says "Holy Fucking Shit"

Neongod 05.08.2006 05:56 PM

A bit more than that....

Questionable lyrics in brackets.
=========================

Alrighty, then ... picture this if you will.
Began at 2 AM, and
[actually eating up / after eating an entire]
box of Krispy Kremes,
at my need-to-know post
just outside Area 51 contemplating
[the whole "chosen people" thing / the multitudes of people, thinking]
when a flaming, stealth banana split the sky, like, wide open.
I never expected to see it in a place like this.
I do believe I spilled a
[diamond sundae / diet soda]
or something
right on my Birkenstocks.
[Then he yelled at me / Then yelping / ??]
Holy fucking shit!
Then the X-Files beings,
[who were in some kind of blue-green jet ship
/ who was like some kind of blue-green jackie chan]
with Isabella Rossellini lips with breath that reeked,
did a wicked jump there
also while making the sound a-banana-da-banana
that's when I opened up my bug-eyes,
my gaping jaw,
and my sweaty [lower and / L. Ron Hubbard] upper lip,
and all I could think was,
"I hope Uncle [Martin / Quark] here doesn't notice
that I pissed my fuckin' pants."

So alive in this way
Like an apparition,
He had me crying out,
"Fuck me
It's gotta be
Deadhead
Chemistry
The bottom got on top of me
Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!"
And after calming me down
with some orange slices
and some fetal spooning,
E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One,
the One who will deliver the message.
A message of hope to those who choose to hear it
and a warning to those who do not."
Me. The Chosen One?
They chose me, and I didn't graduate from fuckin' high school.
You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better listen.
Then he looked right through me
With somniferous almond eyes
Don't even know what that means
Must remember to write it down
This is [surreal / so real]
Like the time they floated away
See, my heart is pounding
'Cause this shit never happens to me
I can't breathe right now!
It was so real,
Like I woke up in Wonderland.
Also a bit terrifying
I don't wanna be all alone
When I tell this story.
And can anyone tell me why
[It was a repeat experience / ??]
Will I ever be coming down?
This is so real
Finally, it's my lucky day
See, my heart is racing
'Cause this shit never happens to me
I can't breathe right now!
You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said!
See [them / they're] telling children
And this wasn't all in my head.
See, they took me by the hand
And invited me right in.
Then they showed me something
I don't even know where to begin.
Strapped down on my bed
Feet cold, eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed
[High / hey] ...
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the One
Born to bear and read you all the details of our ending,
To write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen
Shit the bed again ...
Typical.
Strapped down on my bed
Feet cold and eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Sunkist and Sudafed
Gyroscopes and [Nicorette / infrared]
Won't help, brain dead
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed
I can't remember what they said to me
Can't remember what they said to make me out to be a hero
Can't remember what [they / he / it] said
[Oh / God] help me!
Can't remember what [they / he / it] said
Don't know, won't know (x12)
God damn, shit the bed

Gee, I wonder where you heard that? Hmm Well, I just now got a copy of it for myself, & I can't stop looking at the wonderful artwork that Adam Jones & Alex Grey did for this album. One of my favorite image is the body in a spiral.
But, I've probably heard the album 75 times already (got a copy Apr. 24), so I have a lot of catching up to do w/ the artwork.

krastian 05.13.2006 06:26 PM

I finally got this today and at first I was just like "wow this is pretty cool." I was looking through those lenses and I couldn't really see anything so I just looked at each pic through one eye. It basically just magnified it. Then I picked it up a little later today and the 2 images fit perfectly. I have pretty bad eyes so it didn't really work for me right away without me REALLY trying to focus. Fucking awesome.

marleypumpkin 05.13.2006 06:32 PM

^, I'm the same way. I'm right eye dominant, so every image was coming through clear as abell in my right eye. But, it still is an amazing artwork concept.

Neongod 05.13.2006 07:51 PM

It works better if you're really close to a light source or outside. I have a dominant eye as well.
