Do you have a band?????

name?
instrument?
what kind of music do you play?

Alex's Trip 03.21.2006 06:48 PM

No, unfortunately. I really want to though. No one likes any of the same music I do, and when I try to get a band together with them anyway, they don't follow through.

sellouteater 03.21.2006 06:51 PM

i'm in a band although we do not have a name
I play bass
we play alternative rock

youthoftomorrow 03.21.2006 06:57 PM

well, i have some friends who want to start one. i play guitar, one of them plays drums, and the other says he wants to learn how to play bass. i suppose we'll sound like Nirvana, seeing as that's about the only band we all have in common.

What do you use to program?

golden child 03.21.2006 07:13 PM

i have a one man noise project too, im called the barracks of afghanistan

me and my friends talk about starting a noise/pop/glam/grind/dance/hardcore group (we're called whitebelt disco) but we have yet to play togather

Everyneurotic 03.21.2006 07:34 PM

i said "programmed" but it's all sampled, i use cool edit pro and process the hell out of everything. i don't sync anything, partly because one of the basis of my project is chaos.

on my grind project, i program drums using hammerhead and i pretty much play everything else live (rhythm guitar, "noise" guitar and vocals), and then sequence it on cool edit

Alex's Trip 03.21.2006 07:49 PM

That is what I thought, when you said programmed. Anyway...I'm gonna check out hammerhead and cool edit...are they free?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 03.21.2006 07:52 PM

I'm not in a band but I play guitar, keys/piano, and some other stuff.

Everyneurotic 03.21.2006 07:57 PM

cool edit...nah; actually, i have the last version of cool edit pro ever made since the program got bought by adobe and now it's called something else, it's a bit expensive, i got lucky a friend passed me the discs. hammerhead is free, look for it in www.downloads.com

mynameisbryan 03.21.2006 08:07 PM

Bare Flames (www.myspace.com/bareflames)
I play electric guitars and noise fuzz actions.
We play experimental post art punk rock.

Our drummer is the real "star" he was in a few bands in NYC, before relocating to Buffalo, probably most notably he was in the Wharton Tiers Ensemble for a year, Dymaxion (had a Too Pure 7", Stereolab's label) and Autobody.

dazedcola 03.21.2006 08:19 PM

I play guitar but me and my friend can never find a drummer, that has similar tastes as us. Damn, i really want to start one though, Anyone hear from massachusetts and is a drummer ?

DoubleNickels 03.21.2006 08:34 PM

porkmarras 03.21.2006 08:52 PM

not a physical one but my head can be capale of things.Things to happen that is.

noumenal 03.21.2006 08:55 PM

My one man band is called Shitspoon.

Electric cello and guitar.

CHOUT 03.21.2006 08:57 PM

I'm in a duo called Small White, and we currently use drum machines for timekeeping, though I think we finally found a drummer who is quite great.

I play both guitar and bass in the band, since we both write songs and switch instruments. I never wanted to be in a band that switches instruments, but it makes for some nice variety.

We don't try to sound like anything in particular, but I guess we would both agree that R.E.M. and Sonic Youth are two of our biggest influences.

http://www.myspace.com/smallwhite

I also do my own recordings, which I like to call my 'one man band' rather than 'solo'.

http://www.myspace.com/choutmusic

I also have a homemade label where I sell a bunch of mine and my
friends' cds for cheap prices.

Obtuse... :P

For drum programming, I'd look at either Reason (obviously) or FruityLoops (better for my purposes). They take VSTi instruments, do sampling, offer a shit-load of features, allow sequencing... worth checking out.

I use SoundForge to edit mainly.

Of course, you'll be using trial versions of all of these programs. ...Naturally.

HaydenAsche 03.21.2006 09:25 PM

Nah, you can get full versions off of Limewire.

soapbars 03.21.2006 09:48 PM

marleypumpkin 03.21.2006 10:29 PM

Not in a band, I just write my own songs, perform (guitar, bass, drums) & record them.

Inhuman 03.21.2006 10:30 PM

I'm in a band that I just play for because I like playing guitar. I don't actually like the stuff we produce, but hey, it's good experience.

marleypumpkin 03.21.2006 10:31 PM

I'm gonna call my solo, one man band, Dislodgement.

John Violence 03.21.2006 10:37 PM

I didn't realize CHOUT was in small white. You guys are good! I play guitar in a band called Sone.

hey alex 03.22.2006 12:55 AM

I have my 4-track project, electric kites
http://www.myspace.com/electrickites
Someone on the old board said it "sucks with potential" and that'sa bout right. I play everything and what not... and once I get around to doing some more recording I'll start talking about it again.

I jammed with some friends today and it was really awesome. We got this one very yo la tengo-like groove going on that we jammed on for like 10 minutes, and with barely changing the bass line ^_^. Next time we jam I'm setting up my 4-track.
