What band's have aged the best? (physically, not sonicly)

My vote would go to Gang of Four. For a band that's reunited after such a long time, they still look pretty sharp.

Time hasn't worked well for the Pixies (except Kim) but they still rock!

Savage Clone 04.02.2006 11:47 PM

Sonic Youth for sure.
Bob Mould looks better now than he has in his entire life.
David Bowie and Leonard Cohen both still look sharp too.
Marty Willson-Piper of the Church is still a heartthrob for sure.
Paul Weller looks great.

krastian 04.03.2006 12:02 AM

Mick Jagger looks amazing.

val-holla-ing 04.03.2006 12:28 AM

sonic youth all still look super young, i think.

You guys are insane. I'm wearing a Stones tongue shirt as we speak.

marleypumpkin 04.03.2006 12:42 AM

Well, your free to like them, but I just don't see why people like that group.

Amaranth 04.03.2006 01:01 AM

sonic youth looks great, ofcorse!!!!

Krastian:

I'm sorry, but I am being serious. All they do is rip-off of the Beatles & the VU.

noumenal 04.03.2006 01:12 AM

The Rolling Stones developed their core sound before VU ever released a record. The Beatles and The Stones came out at almost exactly the same time. I'm not a huge Stones fan, but saying they ripped off the Beatles and VU is silly.

Ha ha ha......that is hilarious. I can't believe you just said that. WRONG. From reading yr posts I honestly thought you were smarter than that. The Beatles and The Stones sound nothing alike after their early days of playing early rock and roll/blues (for the most part.....I mean they've pretty much have always been a straight up rock band minus a few weird songs in the late 60's). The Velvet Undeground???? What planet are you from? The Stones don't sound noisy and fucked up like the VU and I'm pretty sure that Lou Reed and crew's style (clothing, not music) and overall "fuck it" attitude was in someway influenced by The Stones. Crazy man, crazy.

THANK YOU!!!

marleypumpkin 04.03.2006 01:24 AM

You can't honestly sit there & tell me that after VU released "Loaded", the RS weren't copying every aspect of that album, & in many ways, still are.
& if it weren't for The Beatles, no one would care about the RS. The Beatles laid a trail that the RS obviously copied. & hello, George got the RS their damn 1st recording contract. I'll never forgive George for that.

Amaranth 04.03.2006 01:25 AM

well, back to the topic, the stones have actually aged well concitering their drug cunsumtion and age. holla!

;)

Ha ha ha. If anything you could say the VU were "ripping off" The Stones for making a more stripped down rock record. What Stones songs post-Loaded sound like them so much that they are ripping them off? Wild Horses? Brown Sugar? Tumbling Dice? Angie? Happy? Blah........

marleypumpkin 04.03.2006 01:51 AM

I don't know, all of them. I just don't like the RS, that's all.
Nothing against anybodies taste in music.

As for VU, they were more or less evolving into that stripped down rock record. They were not ripping off the RS. They had done that noise/art music already, so they changed it up & did a rock record.

Now, I'm probably wrong, but didn't the RS cover a VU song once?

That's fine:D !!! But to say that The Stones ripped off the VU, or more specifically Loaded, is insane. Anyway, music is an ongoing continuum.....people influence each other.

marleypumpkin 04.03.2006 02:17 AM

That is very true. I know I even give credit to comedians for influencing me.
I think whatever little interest you may have, be it music, poetry, or art, is an influence on one's artistic integrity.

LifeDistortion 04.03.2006 03:21 AM

Iggy Fuckin' Pop. That guy is what almost sixty, and he looks like he still kick the shit out of a 19 year old. I wouldn't mess with Iggy man.

Of course, Loaded being the Velvet's most anemic and cliched 'rock' album - how is doing an album that is absolutely standard in every possible way an original thing that can be copied?

I spent about three hours yesterday arguing about why the Beatles are the worst thing to happen to the world ever, with the exception of u2. I like those arguments.

FruitLoop 04.03.2006 07:07 AM

Since we're not talking about sonically.... what about metallica?

Grete 04.03.2006 07:46 AM

and what about Patti Smith...(...)

seriously SONIC YOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

marleypumpkin 04.03.2006 07:47 AM

Yes, the true answer is Sonic Youth.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.03.2006 10:12 AM

So of Sonic Youth, which members have aged the best? I'm gonna go with Steve Shelley. I think Lee's graying hair looks very cool.

Its not that I don't like the Rolling Stones, it is just that for as many good songs they did, they made twice as many terrible songs.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.03.2006 10:17 AM

More Jesus and Mary Chain quotes:

"On stage, we're one of the sexiest groups you can imagine. Three of four reasonably young guys in leather rolling around showing their backsides to the audience. All I know is that we get tons of screaming young girls. If a gig doesn't have sex, there's something wrong."

"I'm embarassed to tell people what I do with my life, to think that what I do is the same as what Eric Clapton does. He's raping it, he's puking on it, he's pissing on it. For that reason I don't want to be a part of it."

those are both jim reid

here are some william reid quotes:

"Whenever my girlfriend wears tights, I refuse to see her, I put her on the first train back to Hornchurch and tell her to come back wearing suspenders."

"There has never been a riot at any of our gigs. You get the odd clown who thinks he's Rambo, doing tap dances on the mixing desk. I hate it, I despise it. We're trying to present ourselves as serious, not a Cockney Rejects Oi Oi type of group."

jheii 04.03.2006 11:49 AM

The Rolling Stones Ripped off Loaded? They ripped off the Beatles? Are you fucking mad? I know this argument is dead, but damn. That's just silly.

I prefer Kim's blonde (redhead..) hair!:)

h8kurdt 04.03.2006 12:35 PM

Sonic youth have definetly aged great. They all look hotter now than in the 80's.

I can't really think of anyone else.

_slavo_ 04.04.2006 09:34 AM

Sonic Youth for sure...

i guess he looks pretty decent regarding his age...

(I expect many laughs)

marleypumpkin 04.04.2006 09:41 AM

I think David is defying the laws of aging. Physically speaking, & musically speaking.
