Plastic Ono Band with Kim & Thurston

Alex's Trip 01.11.2010 02:09 PM

Anyone have any opinions on Ono live? I am considering going to a certain Noise Pop event with the Plastic Ono Band and Deerhoof.

Rob Instigator 01.11.2010 02:26 PM

Old kittens must stick together.

SONIC GAIL 01.11.2010 04:13 PM

That looks fun.

SonicBebs 01.12.2010 03:47 AM

that looks wicked

chicka 01.12.2010 11:21 AM

tempting. wonder what guitar licks Clapton will steal from Thurston..In her hey day Bette Midler was quite the party gal. One Show in Boston she taped
a joint under all the seats in the place and then dropped her shirt during the encore.

Keeping It Simple 01.12.2010 01:53 PM

In his heyday, people would graffiti on walls that Eric Clapton was "God". Nowadays he's referred to as Eric "Clapped-out".

SuperCreep 01.12.2010 03:45 PM

i'd so be there if the ticket prices didn't suck. i've heard really good things about plastic ono band live too.

Inhuman 01.12.2010 03:51 PM

Man... Yuka Honda and Paul Simon too. Sweeettt

SuperCreep 01.12.2010 03:56 PM

actually, you know what, fuck it. i'm going to call and see if they have any of those $39.50 seats left.

edit: okay, i'm going.

notyourfiend 01.13.2010 08:34 PM

I bought my tickets. I'm going with my mother. I sold her on Bette Midler and Paul Simon. I feel bad though because I know that she doesn't like dissonance in music. I don't think she's listened to that much Yoko Ono...

This is the most ridiculous line up I've ever seen.

hirsute_biped 01.14.2010 05:05 PM

WTF?! Original plastic Ono band was awesome, havn't heard the new one. Some of these guests are awesome, some are wack. Should be ridonkulous! Someone please film this just to prove it really happened...

SuperCreep 01.14.2010 05:45 PM

would have been even more badass if they had gotten ringo on board for this.

RanaldoNecro 01.17.2010 08:42 PM

supercreep did you get tickets? I noticed some are on the balcony. But would prefer something better...

Anyone have leads on tickets?

yeah, i got one ticket on the balcony last week. there were only four others left up there when i called.

i'd try calling them and seeing if they have anything at all left. i'm seeing a lot of tickets for this going for ridiculous prices on ebay now.

It was Thurston Kim and Yoko doing Mulberry with projection of Fly. And for encore Kim and Thurston took the first verse on Give Peace a Chance (that was pretty awesome). I have the full setlist/program at home I'll see if I can post it later.

SONIC GAIL 02.17.2010 11:26 AM

I was there last night -it was a great show. Surprisingly, a highlight was Bette Midler's preformance of "I'm Your Angel."

SuperCreep 02.17.2010 05:13 PM

ugh. i wish i could have made this. i had a paper due date pushed back, so i had to work on that instead. :7(

I love Bette Midler. :)

notyourfiend 02.17.2010 05:57 PM

Bette Midler is a hell of a preformer!

Kim seemed a bit awkward, esp when given the mic w thurston to sing "give peace a chance." It was cute though - thurston & kim were actually acting a little bit couple like. i love those rare moments.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPAz5okXlHw --> a vid of "give peace a chance" from the rehearsal the night before.

what, no sy/clapton feedback amp drone destruction jams ala "john, john (lets hope for peace)" from toronto '69? opportunity missed!

Georgekrz 02.18.2010 10:56 AM

hirsute: yes it was! someone yelled out for Cold Turkey, that would have been a good SY/Clapton jam.

There was an interesting Kim Fowley interview in a recent Goldmine. Fowley was the host for this show, he claims he arranged for Lennon to play the gig, invented the waving of cigarette lighters at this gig, and that Lennon was so nervous he got sick beforehand and Fowley had to push him on stage. The Doors headlined this show but it is not known if Morrison and Lennon met.

Sickness!! Ono's Plastic Ono Band lp is rad, I really want to get the Fly 2lp. Unfinished Music #2 was rad too... More of that kind of stuff, less pop please

RanaldoNecro 03.01.2010 03:26 PM

Yeah I listened to it and it is interesting. It really seems that the guitarist (?) Sean Lennon has been lisening to Tom Morello.

to be clear, i meant the late 60's & early 70's Ono records were/are raddness. the new one, i've just heard samples online, and seems a mixed bag to me...

i just moved and found a video store with all or most of yoko's performance/art films available for rent.
