Favorite album covers?
Probably the one I love most (in my collection):
|
it's pretty similar to one of my favorite pieces of art, probably why I like it |
Sonic Youth, Daydream Nation
Pink Floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon Mudhoney, Mudhoney Sonic Youth, Goo Radiohead, The Bends |
Ume - Urgent Sea |
Anybody else?
|
i got ylt's "...i will beat your ass" in the mail yesterday & i fell in love with the back cover
the front cover is cool enough: but the back one! oh i can't get a picture with google. maybe tonight i'll photograph it. it's just a brilliant photo, full of secrets. |
I like it, too. But full of secrets? What do you mean?
|
wasn't this posted somewhere already?

well it's nothing like satanic lyrics played backwards, ha ha, but the photo has a number of strewn objects like a bottle of electropura water (real or fake, not sure) & things like that which if you're a ylt fan you'll identify as little inside jokes? |
Shellac Terraform
Huggy Bear Taking the Rough with the Smooch Iggy Pop Lust for Life |
Locust Abortion Technician-Butthole Surfers
Kid A Loveless Daydream Nation Meat Puppets 2 |
|
i haven't even heard the album but i want it on LP because the cover is so cool. also... i love their artowkr, done by the awesome - winston smith |
|
|
i mean this in earnest

This would go for pretty much any records by the same. There are other records, but I can't find pictures, so there's not much point. |
These are classics that everyone should know.
|
and of course...
|
im not a big fan of beck, but you gotta admin this was a great damn srl-inspired cover, even though i only had the cd not the record if there ever was one
this simple cover i also love. the photo i believe is by robert mapplethorpe? noisemachine beat me to the VU cover oh! and this one! of course! it spins! |
Oh, yeah... Horses. I love that cover, too. Yes, Mapplethorpe.

That is a great cover. The cd version doesn't have the same effect as it doesn't spin, but still impressive artwork nonetheless. |

Cool. I like looking at similarities in covers. It's easy to see themes, similar designs, etc.
I have an old book called the Album Cover Book, published in the mid-70s. I wonder if there's been an update since, or something similar published more recently? |
There are new versions of that book.
I like this one, for the spinning moiré wheels on the front cover and inner gatefold. Superpsychedelic. One of my favorites in my collection. "Soul Kiss" by Spectrum also has a great transparent gatefold sleeve with an integrated design that can be seen through the clear vinyl platter. It also was filled with clear and blue gel for the "psychedelic globule" effect. Mine (and everyone else I know who owns it as well) unfortunately sort of dried out over the years, but it still looks really cool. The CD package fared slightly better. |
|
This one's a bit weird. I have it:
|
Wow.
|
It takes me forever to fold them up the right way, so that the end result actually looks like Marc's face and not sorta-kinda-like-Marc's face.
|
i didn't know it was like that... would be supercool to have that vinyl, i have that on cd and it's great.
|
oh the funhouse cover is awesome
i have the vinyl reissue and it's brilliant |
Dozens of others, these just come to mind. |
|
|
- because Jesse Peretz is a great photographer. - people falling to their deaths, kinda fits the album somehow. - it's such a classic photo, she looks like she's really feeling the music. |
