Glak Cat: MH85 $12.00 Baby's got the blues on this one. cuts from The Flowerhouse Roundtable, features live cuts, spokes, booze and blues, Mick Flower, John Moloney, Paul Labrecque, Rob Thomas, Sarah O' Shea, Ron Schneiderman, and more. . . track titles are embeded on the CD. Hand #d edition of 100. |
Electric Jellyfish The Woods CS Cat: yodtapes-16 $8.00 The first offering from Electric Jellyfish in their three-piece incarnation. Influenced by everything from Glenn Branca to Neil Young, title track The Woods opens with eerie guitar noise and soon explodes into a country-gone-sideways march. It is a nine-minute epic about deceit, betrayal, and revenge, with creaking guitars and a continually intense rhythm to match its dark lyrical theme. B-side Mr. Innocent Gun continues the rhythmic intensity, but shifts towards a stark repetitive minimalism. With continual patterns, the changes are barely perceptible until they transform back to the way they started, producing a continuous flow throughout. |

Not new, but should be bought by everyone, on account of it's being brilliant:
kim salmon wall/paper cs cat: e#4g kim salmon is the guitarist singer/songwriter from the scientists, one of the all time greatest bands, not only from their homescape australia, but the entire fucking universe. he's also spent some kick ass time with beasts of bourbon and the equally sweet kim salmon & the surrealists. last time we saw this swamp core genius we asked him if he ever recorded any "experimental" guitar action. as a matter of fact yes he did and goddamnit if he didn't send us some righteous avant smoke. "wall/paper" is a continuous piece of guitar music moving through dark drone noise threat into scabrous dr rhythm romp and settling into sweet slide improvisation. a sartorial affair from one of the bossest music minds down under. c-44 same program both sides, blue shells w/ 5 panel cover designed by kim salmon, gold inked #d edition of 100. |

Huh?

Outside of his solo work, Andrew also performs with and produces music for the avant-garde ensemble To Live and Shave in L.A.. He first appeared on the band's 2004 release "God and Country Rally!". He co-produced their 2006 studio album Noon and Eternity, and appears on the group's other 2006 release, the "chronological remix" project Horoscopo: Sanatorio de Moliere.
... Andrew's earliest external production work was with the group Wolf Eyes, on their now out-of-print 12" EP Fortune Dove. Since then, he's chosen to work on a select and seemingly random set of projects. Most recently, he completed production and mixing on the album, Through The Panama, by Brooklyn, NY based three-piece art rock band, Sightings. The album was jointly released by Load Records and Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! label in October 2007. Wolf Eyes began as a solo project of former Nautical Almanac member Nate Young, with Aaron Dilloway joining in 1998, and John Olson in 2000.[1] During this time, the band also briefly relocated to New York City and at one point enlisted Andrew Wilkes-Krier, now known to the public as Andrew W.K. .......... It's fairly common knowledge. |
Thurston Moore Co-Produces New Religious Knives LP
Brooklyn psych supergroup Religious Knives, comprised of members of Double Leopards and Mouthus, have another one coming atcha October 14 from Ecstatic Peace. It's called The Door, it was recorded and mixed in a handful of Massachusetts locales, and-- because nary a drone can pass through the Bay State without bearing the dude's mark in some way-- it was co-produced by the band and that Thurston Moore character. The Door creaks open just after the Knives close down their European tour, which they'll kick off tonight (September 17) in Paris. Heh. I always thought the term "Supergroup" meant more than having a few noise nerds from other noise bands in your band.

Universal truths Ecstatic Peace thrives despite the help By MICHAEL BRODEUR | September 16, 2008 Awesome ColorPicture it: Northampton 2006. A team of blandly suited men in sunglasses stand at the threshold of Thurston Moore’s house. A second round of handshakes ensues, this time with a brisk air of departure. The men silently repair to a black van that reads UNIVERSAL on its side, and it disappears around the corner. Thurston calmly closes the door, turns, leans against it, and lets out a long breath. Then he goes, “YES!!!” Cut to Moore wiggle-dancing to “Into the Groove” on the sofa in his briefs, singing into a zucchini. This is, most likely, not how the distribution deal between Moore’s basement label Ecstatic Peace and Universal Records went down — but isn’t my version cooler? In any case, the deal has been awesome: now the world enjoys increased access to some really degenerate rock-influenced art-noise flotsam. Here’s some of the latest: Hush Arbors, “Follow Closely” Ecstatic Peace will release Keith Wood & Leon Dufficy’s Hush Arbors debut for the label (though they’ve released dozens of records and tapes over the past 10 years) on October 21 — and fans of occasionally gnarly psych-folk à la Six Organs of Admittance and Vetiver should report directly to this preview track. Religious Knives, “Basement Watch” There’s little question what kind of door Religious Knives are referring to with the title of their upcoming (October 14) album, The Door. I put it on and my speakers started leaking little plumes of Nag Champa. Here, members of Double Leopards and Mouthus ride the snake all the way to the ancient lake atop smoldering organs, hot guitars, and Maya Bernstein’s mindfuck monotone. Awesome Color, “Eyes Of Light” Awesome Color might be one of the most aptly named bands ever. “Eyes of Light,” off their stepped-up sophomore release Electric Aborigines, is a swirling vortex of white noise, fiery psych-rock, drug drones, and flickering lickage. It’s sure to be a highlight of their September 23 show at the Middle East upstairs. Black Helicopter, “Golden Days” Boston’s own Black Helicopter are hard at work mixing and mastering their forthcoming as-yet-untitled full-length to follow up 2006’s Invisible Jet. Here, they may seem a bit more pleased with the world, but they still sound intent on putting a big crack in its core |

I had a joke noise band called Merzonna ESP. I think it's on soundclick if you're curious. Also, funny review about BOSS... "one of the Markers top 10 most accessible releases ever." What does that even mean?! Cool article regardless though, thanks Moshe. |

Tall Firs (Ecstatic Peace) + Gareth S Brown + Hank Haint @ Brudenell, Leeds - 28th sept - THIS SUNDA
no votes ? by brudenell Tall Firs + Gareth S Brown + The Hunter Gracchus + Hank Haint @ Brudenell Social Club 28th September £5 advance, £6 door Tall Firs are a New York City based underground electric folk rock band, originally formed in 1990 by Dave Mies and Aaron Mullan in Annapolis, Maryland. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Aaron Mullan, guitarist and vocalist David Mies, and drummer and vocalist Ryan Sawyer. Their self-titled full-length album was released in 2006 on the independent music label Ecstatic Peace!. Tall Firs grew out of an over-the-phone collaboration between teenaged David Mies and Aaron Mullan, who were school friends that lived too far away to walk to one another's houses. Allegedly, the two would sit at home and cue up cassettes from the Circle Jerks and Sex Pistols to play over. They would not play their first concert until eleven years later. In 2001, the band was signed to Ecstatic Peace!, the record label of Thurston Moore. Their first self-titled album was made in the Sonic Youth studio, and after Moore and Andrew Kesin, heads of Ecstatic Peace! heard the album, they asked to release it. The band has played such venues as Tonic and The Stone. They base themselves in New York City's Williamsburg neighborhood, and have opened for or played with bands such as Sonic Youth, Oneida, Awesome Color, and P.G. Six. They are currently[when?] on a nationwide tour with Emily Haines. Tall Firs' next album, entitled Too Old to Die Young, was released in March 2008. Aaron Mullan began collaborating with Chris Corsano before moving on to work as a sound engineer and instrumentalist. David Mies played in the Baltimore, Maryland-based scuzz-rock scene before moving to New York. Drummer Ryan Sawyer hails from Texas and was one of the first drummers in the band At the Drive-In. He moved to New York City in 1997 and has recorded or played live with acts such as Mekons, Massive Attack, TV on the Radio, and The Fiery Furnaces. In addition to his role in Tall Firs, he serves as a member of Stars Like Fleas and Eye Contact. Ryan participated as drummer 62 in the Boredoms 77 Boadrum performance which occurred on July 7, 2007 at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn. |
