Low - HEY WHAT
Considering all the glitchin'-a-go-go, this may not be the best time to start a new thread — and apologies in advance to hipster_bebop_junkie, who has been posting major Low (or LOW, as he and _tunic_ call the band) announcements since I don't know when, but given that I just received the respective Bandcamp notification, I couldn't help myself. :) The details:

Their new Bandcamp pic (at least I think it's new) finds Alan going all pastoral Zep on us: Robert Plant hair and there's a black dog! But where's Steve? He can't be the canine, can he? Now that'd be some Aleister Crowley Zoso shit right there!

Steve is no longer part of LOW. Alan mentioned/confirmed this a little while ago on a Q & A on Instagram. It's a new incarnation now. Maybe Cyrus will be the new bass player.
Anyway, I have pre-ordered the vinyl Loser edition of "HEY WHAT", and also the cassette tape. |

Wow, I had no idea. So that's, what, at least the fourth bass player gone now? If we weren't talking about a band that's nearly 30 years old I'd say we're entering Spinal Tap territory... It's a bit jarring to me because my impression was that Steve was very involved in the creation of Double Negative - Mimi said to Uncut that sometimes Sparhawk and Garrington would work overnight and in the morning they'd play the new song to her (and she would say, "That's a song?" :)). Will the dog be the new bass player?
Too bad Steve has left, he's a great musician, both in Low and Retribution Gospel Choir. Just hear him do the organ on the two Organ Reframed concerts. But it must be hard to be the third wheel on the wagon, and perhaps the Covid bubbles also had a part in it. Looks like the new album will be a continuation of the previous one, with the distortion and over-saturation. Upon first listen I do like the one track that's streaming already, almost seems like Nils Frahm is guesting. Oh, I did miss most of those live sessions they've done lately. Would have been nice to watch the progress of these new songs played/practiced live. |

New song is great, can’t wait.

Haven’t been here as much lately, but I still feel as though Low is somehow the second-most beloved band on this forum behind the band whom the forum is devoted to.
Great to have a shit ton of Low lovers on this site, alongside lifelong SY-heads Warms my heart |
I appreciate Steve's contributions to LOW during the last few years, especially live. I'm being double positive about the change, though. BJ Burton in his role as producer seems to be very important to LOW's sound lately and they opted to recruit him once again for this record.
All "Friday I'm In Low" sessions are archived here, and there are some versions of a few songs apparently from "HEY WHAT" already scattered over there: https://moppycouk.wixsite.com/fridayiminlow/# I've posted about it before but in case it flew by, a demo of "Days Like These" appears on a compilation assembled to donate funds to students in need during the COVID pandemic: https://clcaudioclub.bandcamp.com/al...d-during-covid Finally, the video for "Days Like These" is now up on Youboob: https://youtu.be/d8QiSZRX8dA |

I thought it was The Verlaines. Then I woke up. ;) Seriously though, I think we "Low lovers" (Lowers?) can be just more vociferous, not necessarily more numerous. Nirvana, My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. are probably more popular than Low in this joint. Heck, even Sunn O))) are (or were, at one point) stronger candidates for #2. And by #2 I mean —oh, forget it, that wasn't gonna be a good joke... |

Thank you! Cyrus, eh? If he ends up being the new bass player, we could say Alan "pulled a Tweedy" (or a Peter Perrett, for that matter). |

It's nice to see LOW still can be a topic in this board. Even if it has been just a few of us (far from a ton for sure) keeping the threads going, it always has felt a bit important to me to maintain these interactions. Other bands/artists I love certainly haven't resonated that much around here. |

I forgot Swans. There are, or were, a fuckton of Swans fans here as well |

True. Maybe a bit less after Gira responded to Larkin Grimm's accusation of rape using basically the EXACT SAME PLAYBOOK as EVERY motherfucker out there: 1.- (Deny, deny, deny.) 2.- IF I've hurt someone, I apologize because nobody cares for women more than I do . 3.- Something did happen, but she got confused. On the other hand, that's probably just wishful thinking and the only reason we don't hear more about Swans here now is that less people are posting about anything anyway. Oh, and the board is broken. |
^ The Electric Fetus is a tremendous institution in Minnesota music (53 years and counting!). Until recently they had a store in Duluth (who knows how many hours Mimi, Alan and co. spent there), but they had to close it down. :( Fortunately, their main Minneapolis HQ is still running.

I was thinking about ordering the red version. Have the new Lingua Ignota record on pre-order, also on (transparent) red vinyl. It is the color of love. Too bad I jumped like a ton of bricks on the Loser Baby edition.

Eh, love is overrated - buncha synapses misfiring left and right. Better and more honest to be a Loser Baby! :D |
Well fuck!! This forum is still good for something. Can't wait.
