The first track is really amazing and there's some parts in it that I liked, but a lot of it is just... chords. Easy barchord progressions. I will of course listen to it some more though.

True but a lot of music also has interesting vocal melodies or interesting rhythms or something to that extent. Something that uses barchord progressions as the basest of the song but never the main refrain.

noisereductions 09.29.2010 06:10 PM

I dont know. Like I keep saying, we all hear shit different. But I'm listening to this motherfucker and trying to figure out why anyone wouldn't love. OH well. No matter to me.

New York Dolls - s/t

Trashed out blues doesn't get much better than this. Stones stripped down to sumthin' even more street level. Plus, they still kick ass. JT's gone, Arthur Killer Kane is gone, Billy Doll...all gone, but they STILL kick ass. I don't wanna admit it, but their two recent records murder that last Stooges album. Sad thing, I'm not sure it even matters.

Jesus loves the Dolls, too. + So do I.

:)

I had some money left over on an itunes giftcard I had recieved, so I just went ahead and got it. I might wind up with the physical copy, the sound on the digital is pretty poor.

I think it would be better if Mack Maine were edited out of it... he can rap, but his verses on this album are uniformly awful

noisereductions 09.30.2010 03:05 PM

oh I see (re: Wayne) I'm really excited about the physical album coming out though. "Right Above It" is sick and the title track I enjoyed.

As far as the YM album goes, I'm always astounded at how good the beats are on it. It's really solid throughout. And basically, I think the record is an amazing snapshot of a period of time.... Wayne was riding high and Drake & Nikki were just sort of becoming known.

This is basically an official release of the Monster Island Live mixtape that was sold thru Sandbox Automatic back in 2005. The sequencing is different, and there's a lot more sound effects and banter included here, but I knew I had heard this recording before. Anyway, it's better sound quality here, but would have been way more exciting if it was actually a new live recording.
