EVOLghost 11.29.2010 12:26 PM

Hey atsonic. You can buy a ps3 remote(it should come with a USB charger) and there's a driver to make it pc compatible

Nintendo 64 N64 / PS2 2in1 USB Controller Adapter to PC

Quick search Adam, but they're out there. $10 for this one.

EVOLghost 11.29.2010 04:27 PM

My USB SNES controller is the shit. Makes this Cave Story game even cooler than it would be otherwise... which is pretty cool within itself.

Cave Story. Just got through the Sand Zone. I don't think I'll be doing/playing anything else until this is over.

Anyway, I went ahead and bought bangai-o for the dreamcast!

Got it -- complete, with box/instructions/etc -- for $22 after shipping. Not bad, considering I've seen it go for $70 before. As many of you know, treasure is my favorite game developer of all time, and I've owned nearly every game they've ever made, at some point in my life (even rare Japanese ones like Rakugaki Showtime, a GREAT beat em up that's made of paper.. way before Paper Mario...

...and even the crappy as hell Stretch Panic...

...

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 01:22 AM

and now that I've gotten Satourne working, I'm going to be playing Radiant Silvergun all night.

Radiant Silvergun is basically the prequel to Ikaruga. It's finally coming to XBOX LIVE ARCADE next year, if you don't own a Saturn. A used copy usually goes for around $225 or so (which isn't even as bad as Panzer Dragoon Saga, which goes for around $600 usually).

Anyway, TREASURE is the best game company ever ever ever ever. Though, you know, Atlus and Capcom come close. For those who don't know, Treasure made games like Contra Hard Corp, Castlevania Blood Lines (Treasure used to be apart of Konami), Rocket Knight Adventures, those early Tiny Toons games, and countless others. They're responsible for Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, Dyanmite Heady, Light Crusader, Ikaruga, Gradius V, Silpheed, Sin and Punishment, Wario World, Mischief Makers, Silhouette Mirage, Yu Yu Hakusho Makyoutissen, Alien Soldier, and quite a few more awesome awesome games. Actually, I'd go so far as to say Stretch Panic is their only lousy game, and even it is weird enough to pick up if you find it for $5 (which isn't difficult to do)... you get to stretch everything... the environments, and so on... and there are gigantic fat women with shark teeth who fly around with gigantic boobs.. yes, their boobs make them fly... the game is pretty much all boss fights aside from that.

Anyway, I just bought SIN AND PUNISHMENT: STAR SUCCESSOR, as well.

this is for my girlfriend for X-Mas; even though it goes for $50-60 in stores, it's on Amazon.com now, brand new, for $21!!!!! So, if you have a Wii, this is a no-brainer. It's a lengthy shooter that's fun as hell. I am going to go out on a limb and say it's likely the best Wii-exclusive game ever, next to MadWorld!! Please pick it up. Treasure needs all the money it can get.

TREASURE!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I'm really glad people are getting into Cave Story! I played through it a while back, would love to play through it again with a decent USB controller. It's on WiiWare (another reason to get the Wii), and since it's freeware anyway, I'm trying to convince people on dcisozone.com to port it to the Dreamcast. I mean, the game is like 6mb or something, and they've ported Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, DOOM, Black and White, Sim City, and all sorts of other PC games that are MUCH larger and more graphically intensive -- so why not?

DR. EUGENE, what type of controler are you using for Cave Story ? Can you point me in the right direction/ I'll order off of amazon asap.

Sweet! I was just about to ask about this and the Dr. came through. 64 emulators are frustrating as hell with a keyboard. I gave up trying to go any further on master quest until I get one of these.

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 01:39 AM

HOLY FUCK!

GOOD WII GAMES ARE SO CHEAP!

(from amazon)
Arc Rise Fantasia = $12
Muramasa: Demon Blade = $13
MadWorld = $2!
Little King's Story = $7
No More Heroes 2 = $17

even crappier games like Metroid: Other M is only $25 brand new.

And like I said, I got sin and punishment for super duper cheap.

Wow -- time to stock up on some Wii games, since we get to keep her Wii when we move out in a few months. That is badass.

For X-Mas, I am going to get her a few more Wii games, and some stuff from sockdreams (http://www.sockdreams.com/_pages/index.php). Should be a good X-Mas, for her. No one is buying me anything, no one ever does, though I will be getting my profit sharing bonus at work plus 3 holiday bonuses (Thanksgiving, X-Mas, New Years) so I'll have plenty of extra cash. So, I already bought that Bangai-O for the DC, might buy a copy of D2 for the DC since my burnt copy freezed on one of the cinemas, and I got a Phillip Garrel 2DVD box set. Sounds like a beautiful X-Mas for myself.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.30.2010 02:19 AM

I'm getting a Wii this XMAS. I can't fucking wait. Of all the current gen consoles, it definitely has the most appealing game lineup to me. Is that Madworld price from that nutty shop by your crib, Adam? I saw it used for $10 at Best Buy, and thought that was pretty cheap. But damn...

I'm not sure what kind of USB SNES controller I have, as I obtained it from a fire-burned house that I was cleaning up for $$$, and it doesn't have any sort of brand indication or anything on it. Just search 'em up on Amazon, they have multiple that are quite similar to mine. But, I was pretty shocked by how the game instantly configured it's controls to the controller, and did quite a decent job at it.

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 02:28 AM

It's $2 from amazon, as I said. As in, amazon.com.

The Wii isn't too great, but none of the new systems are. At least the Wii has the AWESOME virtual console (now with previously-Japan-only games!!), WiiWare, and the ability to play GameCube games. And, all the best Wii games as cheap as hell, like I said. Just to have Muramasa: Demon Blade and both Sin and Punishment games on one console -- as well as Cave Story on WiiWare? I mean, wow. That easily blows away the other systems, by far.

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 02:37 AM

Anywho, here's my "Wii Games you should check into", Joe:

- Ultimate Shooting Collection (with Radio Allergy, Chaos Field, and Karous -- 3 amazing shooters; though they can all be easily downloaded for the DreamCast..)
- No More Heroes 1-2 (from the creator of killer7)

- Sin and Punishment 2

- MadWorld

- Fire Emblem
- Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Ultimate All-Stars
- Endless Ocean 2
- Super Paper Mario
- Mario Galaxy 1-2
- New Super Mario Brothers Wii
- Phantom Brave: We Meet Again
- Zack and Wiki
- Boom Blox
- Twilight Princess (though I'd rather play the Cube version)
- Castle Shikigami 3
- Geometry Wars
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade

- Rune Factory Frontier
- Swords and Soldiers
- Excitebots
- Little King Story
- LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias
- Contra Rebirth
- Driift Mania
- NyxQuest
- You, Me and the Cubes
- Dawn of Discovery
- Cursed Mountain
- Valhalla Knights
- FFIV: The After Years
- Tales of Symphonia 2
- Onechanbara
- Spectrobes
- Trauma Center
- Monster Hunter Tri
- Metroid Prime Trilogy
- Okami
- Dokapon Kingdom
- Bit.Trip
- Brawl
- Arc Rise Fantasia
- Cave Story
- Mega Man 9
- Mega Man 10
- Kirby's Epic Yarn

Coming soon!: La Mulana, the new Zelda, Dragon Quest X (which will be the best game of the system), Xenoblade, Radirgy Noa, Massive, and if that new Tales game comes out in America... Pikmin 3...

That doesn't even include all the great virtual Console games, all the GameCube games, and I didn't even list that many WiiWare games. So, there ya go! A definitive (?) list!... I'd say that's FAR more impressive than the other two systems. Since I think you have a GameCube already, you can sell that and keep the best games from it, too, so the Wii kinda pays for itself. The Virtual Console has all sorts of classics, I think Super Turrican is on there (!), not to mention Castlevania: Dracula X (the PC Engine one, which rules, not the HORRIBLE Snes one), Mischief Makers, Sin and Punishment, Paper Mario, and countless other classics...

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.30.2010 02:40 AM

Oh wow, I completely missed that! Dat kush, dogg, dat kush.

Anywho, I posted a big list of games I was interested in for the Wii a few pages ago.

OH, HERE it is...

All opinions on any title are welcome - and yes, I've heard that Other M sucks... I'd still like to give it a shot either way. I heard that you don't have to actually hunt down suit upgrades - rather they're just given to you at points of the game where they're needed. Is that true?

Anyway...

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
No More Heroes
No More Heroes 2
Madworld
Okami
Wario Land: Shake It!
A Boy & His Blob
NEW Super Mario Bros
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Donkey Kong Country Returns
House of the Dead 2 + 3
House of the Dead Overkill
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Zelda Twilight Princess
Metroid: Other M
Goldeneye
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Trauma Team
NBA Jam
Mario Kart Wii
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles / I can't believe Wii didn't get RE5!

Then Chairman of the bored posted about this Lost in Shadow game that looks fucking sick!

OFFICIAL E3 TRAILER - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbuXx6vXeZ8

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 02:46 AM

You can't believe Wii didn't get Re5? The Wii can't handle Re5! The Wii is basically just a GameCube... which is why it's so cheap. It could probably handle a RE5 -- or a Street fighter 4 -- if those games were DRASTICALLY downgraded. On the bright side, what I played of RE5 was pretty shitty. It's kinda just an action game now. Meh. Those Resident Evil shooters are pretty fun, though, pretty long, but they're just shooting games. Just like House of the Dead and such.

Okami is WAY better than on the PS2, but as it stands, it's probably one of the best games on the Wii (besides BoomBlox, which is the most fun you'll have on a Wii).

And yeah, Metroid is by far my favorite game series ever. I played 2 hours of Other M and thought it was absolute garbage. I hated it.

The Trauma Center games get pretty old pretty fast. You can get the first one from amazon for like a dollar now probably... Oh, and I thought Mario Kart Wii was absolutely terrible. What a step down from Double Dash. Damn.

Otherwise, pretty decent list. If you have people to play with, Wii Sports and all that stuff can be surprisingly fun, I guess.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.30.2010 02:47 AM

Are most of those WiiWare titles? I'm going to have to look into that. Contra Rebirth, Megaman 9 + 10 and FF4? Hmmm...

atsonicpark 11.30.2010 02:49 AM

Yeah, like 7 or 8 of 'em are WiiWare titles. Most of 'em aren't. All the games I listed are exclusive to the Wii, though (except Okami and Phantom Brave).

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.30.2010 02:55 AM

I know they'd have to downgrade the graphics a bit, but I wouldn't mind whatsoever. I'm still impressed by how beautiful RE4 was! Ha... I swear I already feel like a dinosaur, man.

But yeah, peep that Lost in Shadow trailer. I think you'll like the look of that one. Thanks again for the heads up, chairman.

I've been playing Zelda II for the past 3 nights. I honestly love this game more than most people. It was my first Zelda game. Got it right when it came out. ANyway, I've still never actually beat it. Now I'm stuck on the Island Palace. I can make it to the boss, knock him off his horse, but by then I'm usually pretty weak. Generally the trek TO the Island Palace and then all the f'ing red and blue knights within lower my life way too much by the time I get to the boss. Sigh.

I loved Sin and Punishment 2. How does the first one hold up? I'm thinking about downloading it.

If you ever get a ps3, check out vanquish and bayonetta; two games made by the same people that made madworld, probably one of the coolest developers going right now.

@Evolghost, I was just trolling yo. It worked. Though I do prefer 16bit etc. But I mean I was just kind of saying graphics should take a backseat to gameplay. So in a sense overrated. But said it in jest.

Most ppl hate Zelda II. I just can't. Too much history.

I don't want to make any accusations, but -- and correct me if I'm wrong, lovers-of-zelda-2-who-have-beaten-the-game-or-something -- I tend to think the people who like Zelda 2 never played very far into it. The game actually gets insanely difficult and unfair after a certain point -- it gets downright frustrating, tedious, and ridiculous. I think they had lots of good ideas with it, but it's much easier to appreciate if you don't play through the whole thing. If I played it for 30 minutes and put it away, I would've probably said, "Yeah! Genius game!" It's a game you REALLY have to invest yourself into, and even then, it's downright endless at times (so, in a way, it's kinda like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but without all the fun!). I do prefer the game to the first Zelda, and I do wish they would've implemented some of the stuff for later Zeldas (er, besides the side scrolling CD-i Zeldas, haha)... but yeah.

As for graphics, 16-bit is my thing too, I'm not into GRAPHICS, perse, I'm into ARTISTRY. A game like ICO "looks" better thna just about any game out there, even if it "Technically" doesn't. Ico.. wow.. I am into artistry -- I'm also into atmosphere.

That sense of space... inertia.. the atmosphere brought on by the sheer artistry.. is way more appealing to me than a "Technically" "better-looking" game like Halo, which is just really really shiny.

To be honest, I think Rez is probably the best "looking" game ever..

The game is really just simple-as-hell lines and colors. To see it in motion is truely a thing of beauty, though.. seeing the colors exploding from all sides.. constantly flying into colors blowing up in your face.. my god.

On the other hand, a new-gen game like MIRRORS' EDGE is amazing-looking and well-made as far as its art design goes. And this is game that simply could not have been made before..

That game is going to take anyone's breath away. But, again, it's not all about polygon-pushing -- though POWER does help too. ODIN SPHERE is one great looking game -- possibly the best looking ps2 game ever, but...

....this boss KILLS your PS2. Sadly enough, the game is TOO good looking, everything is TOO detailed (this game was made by 5 people; all the art is hand drawn!)... it slows your PS2 way the fuck down.

TREASURE used this technique, actually, in Ikaruga, Gradius V, and Sin and Punishment... HUGE explosions that slow your game system down to a halt... I am pretty sure they did this on purpose, since it always happens at boss fights and shit... "hey, let's make this part SO FUCKING EPIC that it SLOWS YOUR POWERFUL SYSTEM WAY THE FUCK DOWN."

...So, yes, graphics are "overrated" -- I'd never buy a system, or a game, just cuz of the "WHOA GRAPHIX!!!!!!!!" -- but when you think of how AMAZING Super Metroid (and countless other 16-bit games) still look... why is that? Because back then, they COULDN'T get "good graphics", so they had to make their graphics stand out in another way. Better example: Yoshi's Island (which is so detailed it plays painfully slowly on my Dreamcast!!!!!). Those detailed backgrounds and shit.. you don't usually see things like that nowadays, in games where every war torn enivoronment looks the same.. identical corridors.. etc.

Anyway, the best kind of game is the one that combines real, AMAZING artistry... with the power of the system to really push that design... look at a game like Killer7 or MadWorld... those are new-ish games that couldn't have existed in the 16bit days, and they really stand out to me as simply beautiful games, with their own individual styles... the graphics aren't going to blow away someone spoiled by Gears of War, but I think in their cases, everything comes together -- speed, atmosphere, artistry, POWER... to make a truly compelling looking game.

..but yeah, ultimately, there's a reason people still play PONG. Graphics really are the least important part of a game. But they help! I mean, there are so many awesome PS1 games -- and to a lesser extent, N64 games -- but you don't see a lot of people still playing some of those games, compared to how many people play Genesis/SNES/NES games still. Why is that? Cuz PS1 and N64 games are usually FUCKING UGLY! God, some of those PS1 games with the big blocky polygons... Bubsy 3D and shit.. ugh... and N64.. man, they should've just called it Fog64... every N64 game takes place in San Fransisco, I guess.. haha......... but, again, that's a good example of what I was saying: so many early 64/PSX games had artistry that took a backseat to the 3D design and whatever. I guess they were hoping the "3D Man" would fix the graphics by the time the games came out, haha. (for the record, by the end of 64/PSX's life, there were plenty of amazing looking games. Like Internal Section, Slap Happy Rhythm Busters, Guilty Gear, and FFIX for the PS1, and Sin/PUnishment, Jet Force Gemini, Majora's Mask, and .. sigh .. PERFECT DARK for the 64. Remember how the 64 needed that "8mb Expansion Pak" just to play some of those later games though?! hah..)

@Adam, I understand what yr saying about Zelda II. It does get way fucking hard about halfway thru. But the point is regardless how much time I put into it, I played it (badly) so much when I was young that it has a special feeling to me. The music and the sound effects and the NPC's are just so special to me. In a way more special (personally) than the first Zelda. Now of course the first is a way better game and I love it. Just saying, I enjoy the 2nd more than most.

BTW theres' s a great article on HG101 about the CD-i Zelda's. Have you read it yet?
