I forwarded the PM you sent me Huoxito to Pookie, so you can expect a reply from him as soon as he checks it. He is dependable like that.

One also wonders what he'll ask for postage from South America?

Toilet & Bowels 08.12.2006 08:17 PM

did anyone PM emmaH, or lux?

mexico is two bucks, i just got four cassettes in the mail and the postage they paid was $2.15 dollars and those were four, so 2 is plenty.

No, but I did mention something to Kegmama.

Emmah should be around at some point soon.

luxinterior 08.12.2006 10:05 PM

What is all of this nonsense.

luxinterior 08.12.2006 10:12 PM

After sort of reading through this thread, but not really, I think I understand. I don't know if I will be able to participate because I am packing up many of my things for college. I am not sure if I will be able to bring the very large CD/tape/radio contraption I keep in my room. Even if I could, I would then have to come up with a mix tape theme, because I am crap at picking random songs. We shall see.

Glice 08.13.2006 08:26 AM

When's the cut-off for this new one? I'm interested still, but with in my hungover state, can't be arsed to plow through this thread.

A fair concern. You're only giving your address to one person though, and there's is only so much one can do with a name and an address. The thing with it being actual, hard copy mix tapes is that there's a different thought process goes into making it rather than the instant 'gratification' of a YSI'd 'tape'.

Hip Priest 08.13.2006 10:22 AM

I've traded boots online with seven or eight people, and of dourse I've done the mixtape thing here. The address thing is why it was set up to be one trusted boardie, and Pookie is the only person who has your address.

Besides, it's probably no more of a risk than buying things by mail order or from the internet. At lesst you're not giving credit card details!

huoxito 08.13.2006 10:38 AM

it'd be nice if we also send tapes directly to each other.

The easier way to do this swap thing would have been for everyone to reply if they were going to take part and then one person pair everyone up. Then it would be up to the two paired individuals to swap addresses and mail directly to each other. No middle man and no postage required. Nothing wrong with the way it was done, just a simpler way......maybe? All successful swaps depend on each person making a mix and mailing it out. From school or work, we all know people who wait until the night before to start a project or study for a test. You set a deadline and usually someone is going to spoil it for a total stranger.

this approach sucks, it was done on the old board and well, i sent a double cd but never got one in return.

so with spookie doing the pairing you get guarantied to get a tape in return if you send one.

to the paranoid: this is round 2, and it's done because round was a success. people sent the tapes and people got tapes in return.

bottom line is, if you are not for it, then don't be a part of it, just pm the person you'd like to swap mixes with and do that.

huoxito 08.13.2006 11:23 AM

i send pookie a pm but still havent got any answers...

i wasn't referring to you, but you are part of the people i was referring.

a more appropriate word would be to the "doubtful" ones.

luxinterior 08.13.2006 11:37 AM

The only albums that I don't have packed tightly into boxes right now are most of my Nick Cave ones. And unless someone here wants some sort of introductory tape to the Bad Seeds and/or the Birthday Party, I'm afraid there's not much I'll be able to contribute. Too bad.

I'm not entirely certain I'll have time to do it, but I can try. I can easily make something really standard unless there's a certain Nick Cave time period you have a particular interest in. I wouldn't want to put anything on there that you already know you don't like, if you've heard it.

EDIT: And any sort of tape you would want to make for me will be just fine.

Alright asshats, since the mix CD fell through, I'm in.

Though I still think it would be quite fun to be randomly assigned a person for whom to make a personalized mix tape. Even if I didn't get one in return, I'd still enjoy making one.

And re: the address issue - are you folks training for the special olympics? Giving your address out over the 'net is no different than the countless number of faceless strangers who already have it. You could be followed home from work any day of the week. Your phone calls could be traced. Your best friend or neighbor could be plotting to disembowel you (statistically you're more likely to be killed by someone you know).

You could die AT ANY SECOND.

Diesel, peaches, if you're that worried about your personal safety, I'd be more concerned about your intravenous booze intake than someone on the innernet getting your address.

To digress - I think personalized mixtapes are fun because that's sort of the spirit behind using that media. Mixtapes are so John Hughes. How deliciously teenage!

Oh bugger. I'd never, ever thought of that. Well, thankyou for commiting me to a lifetime of worry. Thanks a million.

WHY OH WHY AM I WASTING TIME HERE WHEN I COULD, POTENTIALLY, NOT LIVE TO HAVE ANOTHER WANK?

Multitasking! What an excellent idea. Now, where's my 'Wanking: Hutchence style' handbook...
