Oh, but hey- you all should check out Issa and AK's new single "Generation Z" ... Especially if "Chaising Faith" made you feel a little diabetic like it did me. Pretty hard fucking song, excellent synthy beat.

They need a new album cover concept artist though, for real. This yin and yang shit is just getting tired.

I really have been pulling for these guys since the early months of 2013, before Indigoism had even really launched. And I pushed them and name dropped them and hyped them even when it was unclear whether they'd be able to keep up their momentum. I want them to get work with FlyLo and Kanye, maybe NO ID. They have enough raw skill to own the game. They just need direction.

Everywhere I go I'ma Rep my shit

Severian 09.14.2015 11:31 PM

I *just* realized that he's up on a monster truck, not a motorcycle.

Album cover just got way more lame.

Severian 09.19.2015 11:01 AM

Oh for fuck's sake. If you're going to spam bomb a thread as essential as the café, the least you could do is be funny about it, Rebecca-Genteel-asskiss-floating blah blah. You're tolerable, you know, no matter what form you choose to take, when you're funny. But this... this... fucking incoherent splash of linguistic diarrhea ... this is just uninspired and sad.

pepper_green: do you want to get banned again..?

Genteel Death 09.22.2015 03:53 AM

Nevermind the insults directed at me, which I find more amusing than insulting. Hasn't pepper_green got a daughter or son, or so he mentioned on previous occasions? How sad it would be for them to discover what daddy gets up to on the internet after he's had a drink or two. Unless the social services sorted that out for them already.

Severian 09.22.2015 10:43 AM

Hmm..

Does anyone else feel that the "PARENTAL ADVISORY EXPLICIT LYRICS" sticker has become more of a deliberate and almost necessary decoration than an actual RIAA imposed rating?

True mixtapes are not made under contract with an RIAA affiliated label. They're often free self-released products, with several different cover art concepts, many of which are fan made. Yet they ALWAYS have the PAEL warning somewhere on the cover. More and more you see it actually drawn into the cover with ink. Or superimposed onto the cover in Photoshop.

It's just, like, damn... Tipper Gore, how ya feeling now? That logo goes on everything! It's a pre-requisite in the hip-hop community. Some of the albums you find it on (like original pressings of 808's & Heartbreak on CD, for instance...) have almost NO explicit material whatsoever. And the mixtapes, it doesn't even matter! Nobody's counting uses of the word "fuck" to see if they can get away with avoiding it like some directors do with the "R" rating.

Rappers just put it everywhere, whether they're swearing a lot or not. And some of the other places it's popped up (like Incesticide, and NYC Ghosts & Flowers) just don't even make sense. It's on the Smashing Pumpkins greatest hits, for fuck's sake. Why?

They should have made a less visually appealing "warning" sign for explicit music. Ever since The Downward Spiral and the Chronic, kids have just seen that logo and wanted whatever it was on.

Maybe Tipper Gore was in with Suge Knight or some shit.

Severian 09.23.2015 12:26 AM

Like, why the hell is it on the Flaming Lips' With A Little Help From My Fwends? Or the Lips' Dark Side of the Moon? What possible reason could there be for that? It's not like the insert is covered in porno.

Whatever.

And you can notice that the acronyms are similar as well:

Watch the Throne = WTT

What a Time to Be Alive = WaTTba

It's definitely a WTT tribute project (if you'd like to call it that..). Nowhere near the actual WTT but I thought it was pretty good. However I have to post the following tweets because I found them hilarious and very accurate:

this album is hilarious because Drake is like 'I have friends' and Future is like 'I've seen the deepest, darkest depths of human nature'

Future: nobody cared about me when I was sleeping on floors and I do hard drugs to fight my demons
Drake: girls are nagging me!!!!

Drake: I am rich and am invited to lots of parties
Future: I almost died drinking lean

Hah! Yeah, I can't help but agree with these. Especially the "I Have Friends!" rub. I feel like Drake has really been trying to drive this one home over the past year. The Ovo Sound 2015 festival (which I could have attended had I not been so, like, "meh, but I'm tired") seemed like an excercise in public coolness-proving. "Hey I'm friends with Ye, did y'all know? And look I'm friends with Future and Travi$ and Ima climb on top of Pharrel's dick like a cougar and make him like me by praising him...

It was kind of like watching a high school movie where a lame kid feels validated because a bunch of seniors kids come to his house party.

Like, maybe he finally realized, after being the butt of a thousand viral jokes in 2014 (Jay-Z dissing, the lint-rolling of the sweat pants, violating NBA contract rules by publicly pursuing Kevin Durant on behalf of the Raptors and costing the franchise $100k in the process, and **missing that free throw!! Oh my god!**) that he was lucky to be taken seriously EVER, and that maybe he should "posse up" a bit just in case.

noisereductions 09.23.2015 10:45 AM

I am like 0.0% interested in this project.

Severian 09.23.2015 10:49 AM

I still like Drake.. More than I ever have. Really. But the guy's corniness knows no bounds, and I think he is attempting something of a factory reset. He wants people to forget that he cried over Rhianna, and start to focus on how many girls are crying over him!

A couple lines on If You're Reading This... stand out as feeling a bit too forced. Like: "It's just that I'm the one they all wanna be mama"

Oh, is that all it is? Just feeling a little put upon are we? Feeling a little stressed about the fact that everyone wants to be you? Yeah, you sound pretty down.

And: "If me and Future wasn't doing this rap shit we'd prolly be in Silicon getting our billions on"

What? Why are you talking about Future? Seriously, where did that come from? Is he there with you? No? Do you guys have a very public Batman & Robin kind of relationship going on? No? No more than any other rappers who sometimes feature one another? Ok - why are you suddenly talking about Future at the end of this album full of talk about your damn self?

Oh well. I wish him the best I guess. I'd rather hear one finished new Kanye cut than a thousand Hotline Blings but whatever.

Severian 09.23.2015 10:51 AM

"Diamonds diamonds diamonds diamonds on me dancing" ... really? Is that right? Well. Color me impressed.
