The port of Broken Sword is fucking unbelievable. If you don't have that, yr nuts. I know you love Lucas adventure games. This is just like that, and it's such an impressive port from PC to GBA. Highly recommended. Big time.

on a similar note, if you still had a GBA or ability to play GBC games, I'd recommend Scooby-Doo Classic Creep Capers, which is pretty much a straight up homage to Maniac Mansion. It's pretty amazing.

I will have a search for Demikids, I forget that we already talked about it. thats right up my alley at the moment.
I love the Broken sword, but I got the first two games as PC titles and played them recently over scummVM.

will keep that scooby doo games in mind when I next visit the fleamarket.
DemiKids, YEAH! :)

If you liked XIII, you're going to love Killer7... that is, unless you have already played it, and currently love it.

visually yes.
but I can imagine some FPS nerds playing XIII and thinking:"Yeah, what fucked up Graphics, pretty cool" and while playing killer7 they are thinkin:"whats that? its on rails?!! the gameplay is totally fucked up, I do NOT understand the story, this game is shit" and totally forget about the visual style. and maybe thats the reason why k7 wasnt commercial success :)

I'm playing Megaman 8.

atsonicpark 10.18.2010 08:20 AM

Hmm, yeah, XIII and Killer7 are really nothing alike. But obviously I reccomend Killer7, since it's the best game of that generation, next to Ico.

Mega Man 8 is underrated... great game except the last few Wily's Castle levels, which are just ridiculous, in a bad way.

everytime I recommend K7 I say: "playable piece of art"

noisereductions 10.18.2010 02:07 PM

al, I thought of another game I want you to get for GBA: Rebelstar Tactical Command. Have you played it? it's amazing. It's basically X-Com Advance. Made by the same guy. I know you dig Turn Based Strat. This one is great.

shabbray2.0 10.18.2010 05:09 PM

what???
I love xcom!!!!!
I am instantly out on a hunt.

EDIT: found it, for 13 euro NEW.
Dammit I want the box for this!!!

btw a hidden gem for the DS is magical starsign. I laughed my ass off. reminded me a lot of playng old school lucas arts games!!!

noisereductions 10.18.2010 09:19 PM

never heard of magical starsign. Will look into. Thanks.

I think yr gonna fucking LOVE Rebelstar. BTW there's a nice strategy guide out there too that includes strategy for Sigma Star Saga. Have you played that one? It's an RPG Shmup!

Sounds a lot like Armada for the Dreamcast. I wouldn't have imagined there'd be more than one game like that. Neat concept.

thats the one where they fused exaclty thos two genres, isnt it?
Ive read a review some time ago. good one?

about magical starsign:
It came in the first half of the DS lifespan. its from brownie brown, they were involved in mother 3 and a lot of squares stuff if I remmeber right.
I am sure you ve seen it before, but it looks so damn middle of the road from its packaging design that it doesnt stick in your mind :)
also the setting is like the über-cliche of rpgs, BUT it will start from the beginning with inside and outside jokes like mad. almost all characters (good and evil) are so charming it breaks your heart when the game is over :)
I played it short after playing contact for the first time. and even if I like contact a whole lot for different reasons, magikal starsign turned out be the game I was kinda looking for: it got the quirkyness, the loveable charaters, also the cute graphics, just the setting is inside the magickal world, which is in this case a good thing. they even start in a magician school. in the first minutes I thought I bought the lamest game ever, but short afterwards the lucasarts-factor crushed my brain :)
definate recommendation, even the battlegame is fun, despite its simpleness
hell I am goign to play this till rebelstar arrives. One of the good sites of being bed-sick. you can play such games from the moment you open your till the moment you fall asleep :)

atsonicpark 10.19.2010 05:48 AM

MAKEN X. Pretty fun, and nutty.

Kind of like Diablo..

also, just bought D2...

...since it's impossible to find a copy of this to burn and play...

Can't wait to play it, Warp is one of my favorite companies ever. Just brilliant.

atsonicpark 10.19.2010 06:53 AM

Also, just got Ore No Ryouri, aka "My cooking":

Ore No Ryouri is one of those games that if you haven't played it and someone tries to explain it to you, your first thought would probably be: how can this kind of game be any fun, or I don't think this is something for me.

Well this is where a lot of people go wrong, Ore No Ryouri is in fact one of the best games on the PSone, period.

oh yeah. I feel like it draws a lot from Guardian Legend on the NES. Remember that one? It was like an Action-RPG Shmup.

Sigma Star is um ok. A lot of people love it. I just like it. But I've bought it 3 times. I always get rid of it and then miss it. So I guess I like it a bit then righ? I mean great idea.

atsonicpark 10.20.2010 08:22 PM

My girlfriend got me DIABLO for our one year anniversary

and I've been playing metal slug 6 on the metal slug anthology

Let's face it, 7 awesome games that I got for $10 -- how much better does it get? The PS2 had so many awesome collections.. Taito Legends 2 (1 was alright, but 2 had so many awesome shooters like Raystorm, G Darius, Darius Gaiden, etc), Capcom Classics Collection 1 and 2 (we're talking, like, 50 great games between the two of them! From Chiki Chiki Boys to Forgotten Worlds! Only thing missing was Final Fighter 2 and 3, and Demon's Crest), Mega Man Collection and the Mega Man X Collection... collecting tons and tons of awesome games, and all of them only cost me $10-20, even brand new. I think the most expensive one was Mega Man X Collection which I bought the day it came out for $30. It goes for $85 now last I looked. I also have this Devil May Cry box set for $20, which was all 3 games in one big box that Capcom released. THose games are so easy though and weren't too good, aside from the first one. I had them all beat in a week. Sold it some kid for $60! It's weird, though, the first one has the worst control, graphics, and those crappy camera angles like the Resident Evil games have -- but it has a great atmosphere and is really, really fun. The 2nd one is so easy I beat sections of it with my eyes closed, I never even took damage. And for some reason, the 3rd one always gets flack for being hard, but I never understood that. Since you level up in it, all you had to do was replay the first level 4 or 5 times and level up your skills and life bar, and the rest of the game is a joke!

As for Diablo, I'd never played it too much.. it's pretty awesome.. you just kill things, get gold, buy things, then kill more things, right? Is that it? It was fun! I am not sure what to get my girlfriend for our anniversary (this was an early present from her to me). I'm thinking of getting her Mario Galaxy 2 since she liked the first one so much.

shabbray2.0 10.21.2010 07:15 AM

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 07:36 AM

wait - what is that? Gonna download that.

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 07:38 AM

I've been playing Rapid Angel

Super obscure, I haven't found any info on it whatsoever, but it's amazing.

FUN AS HELL

noisereductions 10.21.2010 10:58 AM

al shabray -- you still wanna do that trade for the Game Genies? Do you need both? Or do you want 1 GG and that boxed Gen Arcade Classics?

shabbray2.0 10.21.2010 01:39 PM

^^for comix zone?
I got it still packed for you :) I really dont need it, because I own the original genesis release, so yes I would be definatel up for the trade, otherwise I would sell it on ebay, I think.

its the demo disc that was included when you bought the bulky first playstation!!!
I dont know why, but this thing is like all the PS magic included in one disc. this cheesy 90ies mentallity.
there are some cool playable demos on it like tekken 2, and battle arena to shin den I think. also some fucked up music visualizers and some "look-how stroooong-the PS-is" "playable" graphic gimmicks like a full 3d animation of a walking tyrannosaurus rex, which you can let run faster, open the jaw and fuck around with the camera.
I was pretty blown away back in the days when I first recognized how packed that disc was and I am still coming back to play it :)
it was the own good picture Ive found in a hurry, my version is green/black

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 01:43 PM

I just beat comix zone last week.

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 01:45 PM

I just went to the store and bought MAKEN X (dreamcast; was playing it the other day but the version I downloaded fucked up when I got to a certain cinema, I got it used for $5) and 3 ps2 games: CHAOS LEGION, NEO CONTRA, and ZONE OF THE ENDERS: 2ND RUNNER (to replace the copy my friend borrowed and lost). Neo Contra's the only 3D Contra that's fun, Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner is a masterpiece/Kojima's best game.. and I've never played Chaos Legion but it looks incredible. Altogether, I spent $29. Not bad!

Joe, if you get a chance, play MAKEN X. It's fun. It's by the Shin Megami Tensei game! It's not really like any of those games -- except for the music and the maps... weird.. some of the locations.. anyway, it's a FIRST PERSON SLASHER.. you BRAINJACK, where you enter into peoples minds and shit.. some of the locations and enemies look like Metroid Prime/Other M.. pretty weird. Fun game! It seems like it'd get repetetive but yeah. If you like PN03, it's kinda like that (albeit being first person), in that there's really not much to do, you just kinda do it, it offers cheap thrills with little depth but what's there is kinda masterful, and the game is cheap as hell.

shabbray2.0 10.21.2010 01:45 PM

^^zone of the enders: second runner is indeed awesome.
I recently played it and I was blown away by the stunnig graphics the PS2 could provide. the 2 player battle game is pretty fun too, even if its not that deep.
btw check my previous post for the explanation of the mysterious PS disc Ive posted before

damn how is that girl called on the maken x game?
she is from a SMT game, I am sure!!!

noisereductions 10.21.2010 01:49 PM

yeah al, you want 2 Game Genies or you want a Game Genie and that Genny game. I don't remember?

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 01:50 PM

Oh, it's KAY. She does look like she's from an SMT game..

Speaking of next gen Contras, I read that this game is hard..

I thought it was the easiest Contra game since the NES one! I used to think I was lousy, or average, at games, but I've never had much problems with Contra or the Mega Man games, or the Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden games... so, I must be better than I thought.. hahaha.

I do think ALIEN HOMINID is hard as hell though! I think that's the toughest last-gen game, definitely!

Also, Ikaruga is hard. I've put so many hours into that, I can get to the last level, on normal, but I've yet to beat it. Boo :(

Tanks for the mystery disc explanation. Always looking for more ps1 games. I've discovered so many badass PS1 games lately. ADVENTURES OF LITTLE
RALPH and INTERNAL SECTION are both pretty much unknown ps1 games but definitely the 2 best games on the system, so fucking awesome.

atsonicpark 10.21.2010 01:51 PM

"fucked up music visualizers "

Guess I'll have to download it -- yes, download a demo disc!

this thing is really kinda cool. especially the t.Rex. If I remmeber right you can use him as a screensaver while listening to music....

noisereductions 10.21.2010 02:04 PM

I love Alien Hominid. I actually have the GameCube and GBA versions.

ink. 10.21.2010 02:52 PM

I spent like two hours playing a boy and his blob the other week. Then I remembered why I got sick of the game.

noisereductions 10.21.2010 02:57 PM

yeah that game is hard. I have the sequel for GB -- Rescue Of Princess Blobette. :)

ink. 10.21.2010 03:10 PM

rescue a princess in a video game whut?

Derek 10.21.2010 03:22 PM

I'm playing through Super Mario World again. I used to just do the main levels and then beat Bowser at the end and call it a day but I'm really trying to complete it 100%. I had never been to the Special area before tonight!

after you are through that area be prepared to see the world in "autumn" mode and all the koopas wearing mario masks instead of shells, and the plant are from then on: pumpkins.

this is a major-video-game-experience for me since the early nineties. unbelieveable flashback. the only one that is on the same level is the connectivity of sonic 3 & Sonic & Knuckles, where some hidden levels will be unveiled to connect both games when you play through sonic 3s last level
