Oh, ok. Come to think of it, I've only really seen this done with that particular head.

Get a different pickguard, like a red tortoise shell and it would be awesome.

I wrote a stupid song called I Was Sent Here To Fuck You. I'm gonna run the stereo outs from my drum machine into both my Moog and EH ring mods to record the drums (one in each channel). Everything on the recording is gonna have ring mod on it. I'll post it if it doesn't totally suck.

Norma J 01.02.2007 12:32 AM

What is your preferred instrument, Chout? I believe I saw a pic of you in that ghastly pic thread where you were accompanying a bass.

CHOUT 01.02.2007 02:03 AM

I'm bi-guitarial - i like both bass and guitar. Started on bass, and I still think I like it more than guitar.

The WAH is fun too. We also got a slide to fuck around with, new strings and pics in our stockings.

In regard to the Danelectro, what did you tell me to have turned up or something when playing?

To get the best octave up sound, playing above the 12th fret and rolling your tone knob down (so your guitar sounds bassy with the effect off) helps. Glad you are having fun - you should start a family noise/punk band.

CHOUT 01.02.2007 04:18 AM

New pics of the pedals...fuck. Played a party the other night and only used 3 , which was liberating.

Bought another pedalboard off a friend and bought a mixer so now we have a handy portable drum machine console:

Norma J 01.02.2007 04:36 AM

I'd be worried I'd leave something behind at a show.

CHOUT 01.02.2007 04:51 AM

Nah, you just keep your shit together and hope noone swipes anything when you aren't looking. We've been lucky so far.

jon boy 01.02.2007 06:32 AM

i know many people who have not been lucky. you could almost say they have been unlucky.

there was a time in leeds when a lot of people got their stuff stolen, myself included. a lot of it ended up in second hand shops in town, much to the annoyance of the owners so you could get it back but a lot of stuff was never seen again.

Norma J 01.02.2007 06:36 AM

I never used all my pedals on stage. Only really acouple of Danelectro pedals, and a Boss flanger pedal. But I've stripped back my set-up to just the foot pedal that accompanies my amp. Distortion and clean is alls I am after at the moment.

Edited: And of course I use my Boss Tuner pedal.

I used to do this with my old silverface Fender twin reverb too. I don't know if you can do this with most amps, but it worked on my Fender and my bandmate's MusicMan 212.

jon boy 01.02.2007 01:56 PM

i find having too many effects really has the opposite effect of creativity most of the time. people seem to get them just so they can say they have some now.

Savage Clone 01.02.2007 04:46 PM

Here's an interesting one. Natural reverb effect site where you can send a sound file to them, then they play it into this huge 11m ferroconcrete tank and send you back the file with the reverb on it. Not the kind of effect you could gig with, but very cool!

heavium 01.02.2007 05:17 PM

yes, i remember that site, saw it on the shortscale.org forum i think

i just removed the c11 capacitor from teh blue box and must say it does add more volume .. but not an awful lot tho.. hehe..ohwell... i was too curious to see what it'd do...

Danny Himself 01.02.2007 08:10 PM

Chout now has more pedals than any given member of Sonic Youth.

Sounds better to me, but gets lost in the mix still...

You should see the guy in the other band at our practice space - he couldn't decide between the Line 6 or Boss delays, so he bought both to have one at the beginning of his board and one at the end. Makes me feel better.

what pedals do husker du use?

Mainly an MXR Distortion + at some point Bob Mould was using a Small Clone and an Eventide Harmonizer after that for the chorus-y sounds.

What the shitting crikey can you lot still have to talk about? Surely there's only so many effects?

But there are countless variations of those effects made by different companies :D

Norma J 01.04.2007 12:08 AM

And many different sounds to get out of each individual effect.

haha...

i want some tips from yoose; i'm thinking about getting a reverb pedal...i love the spring reverb on fenders (love my main amp's reverb)... i'm kind of reverb crazed...but yeah..i'd like an external reverb effect too, can also use it on bass then... what i'm after is that classic bath thub splashy kind of reverb (i like that patch on the danelectro spring king..kind of interesting..), not some dull sounding digital reverb (*cough*boss*cough*)... i can't really try out a lot of pedals over here because the shops don't have 'em on stock... 'cept for the boss ones of course *sigh*

so..give me some tips about these, if you happen to own one of them...
i'd like to stay in the 50-150 euros range (forget t-rex, holiest grail, spacebox..hehe)

-EHX holy grail
-EHX holier grail
-danelectro spring king
-any other boxes i don't know about

Savage Clone 01.05.2007 07:48 PM

I have a Holy Grail, but something went wrong with the power supply. I liked it when it worked though. Having the "Flerb" setting was a nice bonus. I have no real use for the bells and whistles offered by the more deluxe versions of this pedal. It's no real spring tank, but those are mega expensive. I can't bring myself to pay 500 bucks for an outboard reverb unit.
For the relatively modest price, the Holy Grail is OK with me.

Glice 01.05.2007 07:51 PM

Ok, now I'm interested: What does 'flerb' do?

I hate myself for encouraging this gear wank-fest, in case you're wondering.

Iain 01.05.2007 07:54 PM

Well, me too but the word flerb is enough to get any sensible man or woman intrested.

Savage Clone 01.05.2007 07:57 PM

It's just a sort of wavey, lightly flangey reverb that doesn't sound like The Cure circa 1983. It's nice.

Glice 01.05.2007 08:05 PM

See, with all due deference to Mr Clone (who I imagine appreciates the ridiculousness), the way people talk about effects is absurd. "It's a bit wet, but not as wet as to be brittle. Keeps a nice low-end squiddliness, but without the calcium sound."

Savage Clone 01.05.2007 08:07 PM

Listening to people talk about effects is hilarious, but trying to explain the effect you are looking for to an unfamiliar sound person or engineer is a nightmare.
Gear talk is pretty tiresome after a while, but most times I would still prefer to get my info this way than by reading the catalogue writeups.

Edit:
And after all, you did ask!

Glice 01.05.2007 08:09 PM

I generally prefer to know what it does in physical terms, I find that a hell of a lot easier to comprehend. Give me a spectograph over wishy-washy metaphors any day.

Savage Clone 01.05.2007 08:11 PM

It combines flange and reverb.
YEESH!

Glice 01.05.2007 08:13 PM

The above wasn't a demand, more my usual brand of mis-directed bullshit.

Savage Clone 01.05.2007 08:16 PM

Naturally.

For what it's worth, I did some google image searching for you on this, but came up with nothing.

CHOUT 01.05.2007 08:50 PM

It's all the same in any interest: discussing the taste of wines, athletes' physical ability, what porn star gives the best blow jobs, etc. Talking about gear/pedals is fucking geeky, I'll give it that, but if you like tha shit, you talk about it. So what?
