Nice, I paid a fair bit more for both of those. Out of interest, how much did the Satan Is Boring that was mentioned go for? I haven't been watching eBay lately, but scored two copies of that in quick succession a couple of years back (both from eBay Germany I believe) |

It was the last LP released on Geffen rather than Goofin', so there was only one print run (and AFAIK, only a US pressing - all the ones I've seen over here have been imports). It was the second-to-last LP I got too. |

I think it was up for about £58 buy-it-now. |
Not too bad, I sold my spare copy for £50.

Just a general vinyl question here.....
I've only just recently got a turntable again. Does anyone know what is the deal with the 180g vinyl reissues? I can understand that if the vinyl is heavier, it's less likely to warp, but surely the cut is the same, or similar? I fail to see how they could sound any different to the original, without some kind of adaptor, or, heh, even a weighted stylus. Is it just a clever marketing gimmick? Anyone know? |
Yeah, less likely to warp & theoretically able to be cut deeper. But as you say, for the most part, it's a gimmick - you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference between a well-mastered, well-cut 150gm LP as opposed to 180. Other than the price tag.
IIRC, Matador said as much themselves when the second pressing of The Eternal was (I think) 150gm instead of the first-run 180gm. |

" "180 Gram" refers to the mass of the glob of vinyl (called a biscuit) that used to press the disc. One twenty and 150 gram pressings are thinner, and hence cannot be cut as deep as a 180 gram pressing. The deeper the cut, the more musical information that can be contained in the groove." but if the pressing sucks, or the mastering sucks (analog vs digital masters) the result may not have much value |
