How do you figure? Not on anything that's going for 3 bucks, I can assure you of that. The only pressing that's going to have the "original sound" is a first pressing, and even those are copies of the master disc. But first copies will have the most faithful reproduction to the master tapes, that much is true. However, as I said, you're not going to find a first pressing out there that's not enormously expensive, much more than the 25 bucks you'll pay for this deluxe edition. Everything else is going to be a second (at best!), third, fourth, and later pressing. However, for the deluxe reprint (as is true for many 180 reprints), the engineers went back to the original masters. So what you get on the new reprint is something much like the quality you'd have gotten with a first issue, maybe better, since the quality of the vinyl is no doubt better than the shit they were pressing LPs with in the 70s. |

Barrington Levy-Too Expirienced
& I got Tijuana Voices with brass-Sing Merry Christmas as a gift... |
Vinyl copy of Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) to replace my CD.
VG-plus vinyl copy of Magical Mystery Tour w/ booklet, black/rainbow Cap. label, to replace my so-so Apple reissue. |
I don't like doing that very often--buying albums to replace albums. But sometimes it's worth it. In this case, for some reason, the vinyl copy of Shiny Beast sounds a bit silkier than the CD, and there's more artwork, including copies of the Captain's drawings/paintings that aren't included in the CD packaging, as well as a complete lyric sheet.
As for MMT, I now have the booklet, and a first pressing. Plus, the sound is warm and "tube-y," kind of like the white album, and beats the crap out of the Apple label reissue. |
