westworld (1973)
featuring yul brynner as the original terminator it was so-so. |
Laundromat
Very interesting story (about the Panama Papers) with some very big actors but the way it was written to screen was very annoying, and most of the actors were annoying as well especially the two bankers. The only highlight was Meryl Streep. |
really cool polish movie. you should definitely check it out |

Oddly enough, I live real close to where he used to live (Nuenen which is a suburb of Eindhoven which is where I live). But all I know of Nuenen is that there's a good Chinese restaurant. |

Indeed it is. However, just to adjust your expectations a bit: 4 is less of an ensemble movie than the others were. I mean, the ensemble is of course still there, but number 4 really zeros in on the journey of a certain character. Thought that was a great choice. And thematically it was probably the most nuanced of the bunch. Quote:
Oh, then I actually have watched one of the Illumination movies. Wasn't my choice. A good friend if mine wanted to watch it. She was somewhat disappointed. My expectations were pretty much met (they weren't high). Pure fluff describes it quite well. I thought the way New York was depicted visually was pretty cool, but thematically and tonally it was all over the place. Don't remember much of the plot really, except for that bunny giving the whole thing a complete tonal whiplash whenever he appeared. Like, he wasn't necessary to the plot at all and every time his shenanigans were on display, it was a complete detour from what I remember. |
Fantastic movie. I have a sense that with all the hype around this movie that there will be a backlash from people who say this movie is overrated, in fact I'm already seeing that. I dug the hell out of it. |

i need the rest of it |
it is that good, one thing I see is drawing social issues out of it, which I really don't think is warrented. The Host had a bit more of that
|
Why do Jackie Chan movies have to be so stupid? It might be decades since I last saw The Godfather, and remembered it as long and slow. But wow, such a great movie. Will watch 2 and 3 later this week, and then start all over with Coppola's commentary enabled. |
original cut of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
|
This is an absolute trainwreck of a movie, that I'm now old enough to appreciate on those merits. Don't watch on acid. |
very cool movie, which becomes even cooler after you've seen how they made it. Great cast of (voice) actors as well |

I liked it but I felt a little odd about it after reading some comments about the use of Asian stereotypes and so on. Good, but frankly a little uncomfortable. |
We thought it was awful. Worst movie in a long time.

Worst movie? So do you just not watch movies that are actual shit or what? You pretending Fast & Furious doesn’t have eight sequels? Come on. |

Was it dog shit? *smirks* |

Watched a history of the Weathermen the other night. Pretty interesting times in those days, I’ll tell ya. It was pretty well done, but didn’t really give you a sense of the international flavor of the revolutionary movement in those days. Defn worth a watch, though.

Finally watching Midsommar. Already super disturbing.
Well made but there seems to be a volume issue. It’s barely audible except for the score. |
subtitles, then? I didn't note any issues with it. Good movie, chilling, love the Euro weird stuff reminds me of C. Freger's photos
https://www.rencontres-arles.com/en/...charles-freger Going to see the Gentlemen today, looking forward to a return to form from Ritchie! Saw the preview for Color Out of Space, looks pretty bad, it's one of my absolutely favorite Lovecraft stories, and it looks as if the "updated version" the faux weirdness and the inclusion of Nicholas Cage won't do much for it. It does, however feature a Colin Stetson soundtrack, so that could possible save it somewhat.....will at least TRY to watch it |
re-watched OG What We Do In The Shadows
so fucking funny. |

Well, not all of his movies are lame! This one is actually pretty good It still ain't no James Bond or Rambo, but a nice melange. Didn't recognize Pierce Brosnan at all, only saw on the end credits that he's the other lead actor. |
Jackie Chan's post-Hong Kong films are mostly lame.

The Great Hack

Yah MIDSOMMAR is fuuuucked uuuup

THE DISASTER ARTIST
disturbing /hilarious /disturbing /hilarious |
and of course i had to see this afterwards
it’s not as terrible as i was expecting. i mean, it’s pretty much like a short form telenovela. it’s a bad plot (the story idea is okay more or less), the characters make no sense, the acting gets ridiculous, the dialogue is terrible... but i’ve seen worse. it does get funny at the end... |
The last movie I watched is Joker! This is one of the few films that really impressed me very much!

1917
I really enjoyed it. A lot. My only critique is that the camera work is almost too clever for its own good, in the fact that watching for when/where all the actual edits might have been took me out of the immersion a bit, here and there. It also took me about 15 minutes or so to realize I was watching the actor who played King Tommen in the later GOT seasons. Quite interested to see what becomes of him and his soldier pal from this in the future. I thought they both showed great promise as actors. Ones to watch for sure. |
Last night, after watching some trash on TV, wife and I ran accross this film. on Netflix and gave it a go. I am a huge Welles fanatic, and have recently been enjoying his early movies. 3rd Man was fucking awesome. This one? It may be even better. Directed by Welles, and with an awesome and subtle performance by Edward G. Robinson (look here, see?). Awesome portrait of what it is like to be fooled by a psychopath... |
Edward G. Robinson is just great in anything I've ever seen him in. He has a face that just doesn't exist anymore. One that if you see it in a picture you'd automatically put it to that period.

sunset boulevard! funnier and greater than i remembered
sort of hilarious for me to see william holden as a young man because i first learned of him watching (and rewatching, and rewatching) the wild bunch |
ah! almost forgot that i came here originally to say that the 4h47m cut of UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD is available on the criterion channel!
!!! !!!!! |
Toy Story 3
The Little Mermaid. Don't judge me |
That said, just started Willow as well for a followup. Because: childhood.

Wait, so you watched the movie *about* this movie before watching the movie itself? I’ve been told not to watch Disaster Artist until I watch The Room — cuz I won’t get the jokes or whatever. I’ve seen plenty of The Room, just in bits and pieces, and I don’t think I could make it all the way through the thing, but I want to see the Disaster Artist. But apparently that’s a hard no, at least in my friends’ eyes. Anyway. |
it’s nothing really that far out or anything. your friends are making mountains out of molehills.
people like to do that sometimes to feel they’re in the know or something? yes, the room is a bad movie. not “so bad it’s good.” it’s just bad. like so much bad art. but if you’ve ever spent any time in front of a soap opera you’ve basically got it. also—early van damme? lol. for the disaster artist you don’t need the source movie as context. other contexts can be maybe if you’re vaguely familiar with low rent film productions, diy filmmakers, that kind of scene. or maybe if you remember slc punk. or maybe if you’ve ever had strange friends. i don’t know. many points of entry. “the disaster artist” is worth watching—it’s an interesting story. “the room” is just optional—it’s just a bad diy movie. just like “ed wood” is better than any of ed wood’s actual crap. but if you MUST: we found it on youtube. maybe it’s still there. seemed to just been missing the ass. |
