Pan's Labyrinth... I was shocked, David Bowie wasn't in this AT ALL!!!

RIPfrey05 02.06.2007 10:43 PM

Brick; an awesome and very origional film in which teenagers play out the scenerio of a film noir. I'm sure some of you have heard about it.
before that, "smokin aces".. eh

A great film by two founders of Dogma 95.

Dear Wendy (2005)

Directed by Thomas Vinterberg.
Writing credits by Lars von Trier.

Synopsis

A young boy in a nameless, timeless American town establishes a gang of youthful misfits united in their love of guns and their code of honor.
This film gives a new meaning to guns.

It's Seul Contre Tous which is by Gaspar Noe who directed Irreversible. I would guess so anyway...I haven't seen it but I really want to. Actually, haven't seen Irreversible yet but I did see the bit with the fire extinguisher which made me feel a bit ill to be honest.

Yes, the beginning is quite shocking, and it only gets worse.

jon boy 02.07.2007 05:11 PM

i have seen bits of irreversible and was pretty grossed out by it. i have to see the whole thing though.

I just got done watching Eraserhead for the first time. Holy shit it was amazing.

Savage Clone 02.08.2007 10:11 AM

Eraserhead is one of my top three favorites of all time.

Meanwhile, I got Demonlover on VHS for a couple of dollars yesterday.
After watching it, I still think I paid too much.

Hip Priest 02.08.2007 10:14 AM

We rewatched this:

Tokolosh 02.08.2007 10:21 AM

Is that film any good Hip Priest? I always seem to have my doubts about hiring it.

Hip Priest 02.08.2007 10:24 AM

It is very good indeed. Good horror film with good acting and some genuinely funny bits in. Rent it, Tokolosh; if you don't like it then I will send the rental cost to you. I'm that certain that you will enjoy it.

truncated 02.08.2007 10:25 AM

While seemingly mundane, I just watched United 93. Which, in my humble and uneducated opinion, might be, in basic cinematic style and structure (and excluding any intellectual elucidations 'n that fancy shit) , one of the best-made films of all time.

It'll be the next one I hire. Thanks for the tip.

Edit: I just read that there's going to be a sequel in 2008. Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat Hungry for seconds. :D

So was "Triumph Of The Will," you know.

porkmarras 02.08.2007 10:28 AM

It might also be my favourite movie of all the time.I watch this at least once a month.

Can you not give friendly advice, rather than a condescending reply? Sheesh.

Savage Clone 02.08.2007 10:52 AM

Apologies.

jon boy 02.08.2007 11:01 AM

manhunter (very scary hanibal lektor)

James Blonde 02.08.2007 11:04 AM

Yesterday James Blonde saw documentary called "Czech Dream", rather amusing piece about creating consumer culture.

timtimtim 02.08.2007 02:31 PM

Science of sleep.
It was pretty amazing

Savage Clone 02.08.2007 02:33 PM

I was kind of disappointed with the Science Of Sleep.
I thought it was going to be this super surreal kind of thing, and it turned out to be a slice-of-life-date-movie-for-art-types with some surreal passages.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was that great either.

Iain 02.08.2007 03:26 PM

I still want to see Science of Sleep even though I've come to accept that I'll probably think it's only OK. But considering the last few films I've seen at the cinema, seeing something that's average or mediocre would be a massive improvement.

EMMAh 02.08.2007 06:53 PM

Suburbia

It made me cry hahaha. It was kind of extreme at some parts but it was to show how critical punks can be with people who don't really look like they fit into the scene.

last night or was it the other night? no, last night i saw hm running with scissors.

pretty good! liked the way it was shot for the most part (starts w/ this frame flooded with intense yellows) and while this tends to get lost in one's attention as the movie progresses it's still a very deliciously shot film.

the story, the characters-- from the trailers, i expected something funny like the royal tennenbaums but it was at times quite dark. the peculiar thing was that this was based on someone's memoirs, so it's not some made-up bullshit.

the chica depicted here by the way was quite hot.

---

edit-- apparently i can't hotlink it, or maybe it's just not loading in my browser, but you can see it here if everything fails:

http://www.moviemaze-wallpaper.de/im...aper-4-800.jpg

in any case, annette benning was quite spectacular in her role, as was brian cox, and that fiennes dude, the brother of the english patient, what's his name (brother? son? i dont know. but anyway).

Tokolosh 02.12.2007 06:56 AM

Watched it last night.
Whitaker should get a well deserved oscar for this performance.

James Blonde 02.15.2007 01:29 PM

James Blonde saw 2 documentaries, "Riot-on" and "An Islamic History of Europe".

Me & You & Everyone You Know... HUGE disappointment

Edit: This is my 1000th post. A shame it had to be used talking about a disappointment of mine, and not something I enjoy. Oh well, what's done is done, let the parade begin...

Notes on a Scandal.

Judi Dench should win the Best Actress award instead of Helen Mirren.
