All I can remember about Ui is that they were forgettable. That's quite a feat, methinks.

I'm just glad they are reuniting for the sake of a new album as opposed to a half assed tour.

Gira said he'd been working on ideas that he felt would only work w/ Swans, and therefor got the band back together for that reason. I'm glad he did.

Exactly. Gira's in it for the music and not for the money, and this is just a way for him to continue with his music in a new direction. Sure, they'll play some older songs live, but it's not like they'll sound anything like they did back in the day. The new album is fantastic and I'm glad he's playing with Westberg again.

I love Gira's record label YOUNG GOD... Fire on Fire, James Blackshaw, Angels of Light, Charlemagne Palenstine, Larsen, Larkin Grim, Ulan Bator, etc...

loubarret 09.22.2010 09:11 AM

And one great lisa germano re-issue.

and I goddam love the new album so much

Look At Me Go, the bonus disc on the special edition of My Father, is great as well. It's like a 46 minute long sound collage with drones, noise, tape recordings, bits of singing and so on. It's mostly stuff they recorded for the songs on My Father... but that Gira didn't have the time to add to the songs. Like a 10 minute intro to No Words/No Thoughts. Good stuff in it's own right, but just the thought of all these parts being added to the songs... I mean, I love My Father as it is right now, but it had been so fantastic.

batreleaser 09.22.2010 11:34 AM

Yeah the new record is so surprisingly fucking good.

They did that EP with Stereolab that has a cover of Eno's ''St. Elmo's Fire'' on it, which is good, even though it sounds like Stereolab did all the work.

They had quite a few people on stage, a drummer, a percussionist, a pedal steel guy, guitarist, bassist, 2 horns, and michael gira singing & playing guitar. Heavy, intense, really physical sound. Michael Gira didn't get naked though.
