As a place I find Cafe Oto a little trying, but also its very close to my house and they put on enough good things at very reasonable prices to keep me busy.

Beer In Belly 02.09.2024 07:58 AM

The last time I was in Cafe Oto there was a homeless immigrant npc walking around inside the entrance stuck on a loop pretending to browse the music media shelves over and over again whilst talking loudly to himself. The zombies on their laptops were oblivious. The staff were nice and eventually rescued the guy from his loop of doom but it was too late. Like the coffee, the experience left a sour taste in my mouth, unlike the beer which was good

I totally spaced out on Friday and forgot to go to the Billy Bao show

Shame you couldn't make it. It was a great show. Billy Bao's performance was very different from the one I attended at Limehouse a few years ago. Started with some chat in the dark while scrolling TikTok videos on mobile phones and descended into chaos pretty soon after that. I took a few snaps of it, which I've sent to Mattin and Josh of Ever/ Never records. Josh released the Al Karpenter record on his label last year. Both loved the shots and re-shared them on social medias. Josh is also apparently trying to get Al Karpenter to play in the States, at one point.

Bugger. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The Ultramagnetic MCs show was a con. I threw my drink at them and got escorted out of the venue

hippietears 03.15.2024 02:41 PM

 Seeing Kim Gordon in Philly on June 14th and I can't wait!!!

Drjohnrock 03.15.2024 05:18 PM

Webb Wilder's 70th Birthday Bash is coming to my town on May 19. I will be there, come hell or high water.

TheDom 03.21.2024 11:08 PM

John Paul Jones collaborated with Diamanda Galás. The set with Thurston should be a breeze.

You were right. :) A mighty fine set indeed.

Codeine next Saturday, playing a matinee set in the afternoon after the evening set sold out before I got tickets.
Blind Equation with Your Arms Are My Cocoon at the end of the month, and I've got official soundboard taping duty there.
HEALTH at the start of August.
They Might Be Giants performing every song off Flood in October, after it was delayed from that time last year.

HEALTH recently did an episode of Amoeba Records' What's In My Bag on YouTube.

If only there was anthrax to save my ears from potential future punishment. Now there is band that went from a solid 4.5/10 to incomprehensible 0/10 dance-metal peddlers.

Drjohnrock 04.11.2024 12:33 PM

I'm going to see John Medeski--yes, the one from Medeski, Martin and Wood-- do a solo piano concert at a local university on 4/25. I've seen some of his solo piano live stuff on YouTube. It won't sound like the band, of course, but it will probably be all over the place in terms of musical styles. I'm looking forward to it.

choc e-Claire 05.09.2024 01:16 AM

To add to the above: bar italia and Deerhoof in early June (three days apart), Kim Gordon in late July, and Masami Kawaguchi the next day.

choc e-Claire 05.26.2024 08:21 AM

Eiko Ishibashi / Jim O’Rourke / Chihei Hatakeyama on July 11th.
Keiji Haino / Carl Stone / Nyokabi Kariuki on July 20th.

In both cases, solo sets from each of the three performers at an arts space in the industrial part of Melbourne. Cool beans.

Drjohnrock 05.26.2024 12:22 PM

October 23. Richard Lloyd. I've seen no advertising for the tour but it's coming to my town that day and tickets are on sale, so I bought one. Definitely stoked about this one.

Toilet & Bowels 05.29.2024 04:28 PM

I'm going to see the old-timey hardcore band Negative Approach tomorrow night

_tunic_ 05.31.2024 02:09 PM

probably the only gig I'll attend in the next couple of months, due to no time no money and moving into new house sooner than later

Mono, on the Dutch stop for their 25th Anniversary Orchestral Tour
in october

oh fuckit. 3 minutes after typing the above, I may already have changed my mind
would love to see The Ex again, and they play in September a few gigs

_tunic_ 05.31.2024 02:24 PM

All the Melbourne shows sold out :/
And I figure I should probably actually listen to them first

choc e-Claire 06.04.2024 06:48 AM

Thom Yorke, solo, at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on October 29th.

In addition to Mr. Lloyd:

October 3 - Jonathan Richman

November 9 - Samantha Fish with Mitch Ryder/Canned Heat with Bernard Allison (Luther's son)/Ghalia Volt

Anymore, I'm not much into the blues-based rock I liked as a young teenager. The main reason I bought a a ticket is Mitch Ryder. I've never seen him before. Plus the pairing with Samantha Fish seems strange and logical at the same time. And Ghalia Volt might be interesting. And if I ever have any grandchilren, I can tell them I saw Canned Heat on their last tour (if it really is the last one).

choc e-Claire 09.16.2024 03:55 AM

Got tickets today to see Green Day playing Dookie and American Idiot in full, a couple of days after my birthday. Finally, 15yo me can be happy.

_slavo_ 09.16.2024 11:15 AM

I have several options for upcoming months:
Tim Hecker, Einstürzende Neubauten, Godspeed You!Black Emperor, Kim Gordon, ML Buch, DIIV, Porridge Radio

I'd most likely go to Tim Hecker, ML Buch and DIIV but I'll see how I'll manage. Also the ticket prices are steep as hell here in Zürich

Toilet & Bowels 09.16.2024 09:11 PM

The Shadow Ring next month, and Rosali with the Reds Pinks and Purples in November

Bertrand 09.22.2024 04:04 PM

French bands in my area (Kingz Mansion, Dynamite Shakers, Johnny Mafia), and a trip to Rotterdam next month for Left of the Dial festival.
Hesitating about DIIV

I chose DIIV only, as my October was hectic and November is equally as hectic. But looking forward, their latest album is right up my alley.

Drjohnrock 11.30.2024 11:17 PM

7/14/2025 - The Mekons (full band) with Johnny Dowd opening. I'm really looking forward to this one.
