Ew, Malice Mizer. :(

Gackt is the worst human being alive!

Death & the Maiden 02.05.2009 06:52 AM

What's wrong with Malice Mizer? I don't like the Gackt era much anyway.

atsonicpark 02.05.2009 07:04 AM

The stuff I've heard is awful. Though in general, I just don't really like any of that visual kei stuff except for Metronome, one Dir En Grey album, some Buck-Tick, Blam Honey (who are amazing, one of the best bands ever), 2 Psycho le Cemu songs, one Plastic Tree EP, and Cali Gari. I've tried and tried to get into vis kei but most of that stuff sucks. Sorry, D'espair'sRay fans!

Also... non-vis-kei Japanese bands are pretty much the only ones making good rock music nowadays, but so many are overlooked, especially in America, becuse they're not visually appealing enough. They just don't get the recognition because they don't look "cool". It's like SlipKnot in that sense... That's always bothered me.

Social Junk-Concussion Summer

an amazing debut full length by this ridiculously wild and diverse duo. Nautical Almanac esque glitches tied together by beautiful and almost silent drones with bits of static and rumbling sounds, but also divine sounding milford graves-style free percussion drumming and bits of plucked guitar (surprisngly very clear and undistorted too and it works very well) and then mega distorted whispered howling vocals. All of this with an amazing quirky pop or almost twee sensibility nearly totally absent from this type of thing. "Depleted" is the best track.

Hell yeah. Hoe Cakes is my favorite track!

noisereductions 02.05.2009 02:40 PM

There's some great stuff on there. "Deep Fried Friendz" is probably my favorite, though.
