Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra's Take Off! is my new favourite album of the year. By far. VERY VERY FAR.
^^^ Odd, I just d/led that today from the By Chance Upon Waking blog, because they said it was similiar to Stereolab. Haven't listened yet though.
Mark McGuire's Tidings II is absolutely fantastic.
Yes.
It makes me want to write some UUUUUU stuff... it's like the sound that I really want to achieve.
Buy some more delay pedals and you'll be good. Haha.
I have a new favorite album of the year.
master musicians of bukkake - totem one Here's a link to sample the goods: http://www.mediafire.com/?zyum3nazzza Here's a link to their first album: http://www.mediafire.com/?hwd4jjvfhuc (out of print, so it's a guiltfree download) People involved in the band: Charles Gocher (on first album), Alan Bishop, Eyvind Kang, John Schuller, Randall Dunn, Brad Mowen, Don McGreevy, James Davis, Eryn Young, Shahzad Ismaily, Hammy, Branden Harper, Evan Schiller, Paul Moore, Olli Klomp, Javier Gallegos, Andrew McInnis, Benjamin Kennedy, and Luke LaPlante. |
that album is crazy, almost too crazy to call it my "favorite" but interesting as fuck for sure.
anyways, i said this a few pages ago, wolf eyes new lp on hospital is the best and most consistent thing theyve ever done, which makes sense considering how amazing those guys have gotten.
blank dogs "in the red" is more of the same from him, but thats rad anyways.
oh and i just listened to the new borbetomagus "snuff jazz" as well, very rad, total noise utopia shit.
finally caved in and got the wiese/yeh album "cincinatti" at no fun, also aa helluva lot better than i expected with its junk noise improv and fucked up atmospherics and awesome percussion sounds. they actually sound amazing together with yeh's scraping psychedelic droning noise sound and wiese's hyper almost grind-esque cut up collage noise thing. zola jesus finally won me over with "new amsterdam", fucking heavy, alot heavier than i woulda thought. "balf quarry" is just sounding better and better, i always wanted them to do a hardcore song like they did on the third track. there have also been some amazing releases by both country teasers and the rebel. read about them all by a far better writer than i steve kobak here; http://satanrulez.blogspot.com/ though i want to make special mention of the "W.O.A.R." release on Holy Mountain, it is shibby. cant forget wooden shjips "dos", the band gets better and better. while im talking about holy mountain ill mention thie release of onna's "S/T" record from 1983. Japanese sci fi punk that makes Chrome sound more Thin Lizzy than Ralph records. Timmy's Organism is a solo project of the dude from Human Eye, he just put out a double 7" on Sacred Bones. If you love the noisy sci fi punk of Chrome, Debris, and of course Human Eye youll dig this, but keep in mind it goes a little more far off the beaten path. The album I havn't heard but am most exicted about right now is the new Liquoball album. Liquorball is the scuzziest and punkest psych band out there right now, and to assert this theory the one and only STEVE MACKAY is playing on the record, yknow, the dude who played on some record called FUN HOUSE. |

I'd say it's like Art Ensemble of Chicago + Steve Reich + Stereolab + 60s easy listening, with top-notch composition and lotsa fun. |
khanate 'clean hands go foul' is fucking heavy as fuck and wicked awesome.
has anyone listened to expo '70 - awakening ? the first track off it is incredibly good. the second side is good too but the first one is really mindblowing
the druid perfume s/t is addictive as hell, honest to god beefheartian punk that rips.
yeah it rules. 2008 though.
I don't think I've listened to anything new this year really.
Hayden, you should get the new Gay Beast album on Skin Graft.
You will love it. At least I think you will. |
You had me at Skin Graft. I'll check it out.
Thank you, dear. |
I am so very happy for them getting signed to that label. An amazing band, and given what you like, I would be extremely surprised if you weren't totally into this.
I seem to remember, not sure, Gay Beast played a gig with Drunkdriver, the most awesome band in the world right now, quite recently. If that is not a plus, god knows what it is.
I just saw a great fucking show in Allston, Mass a week ago; Drunkdriver, Mind Eraser, Heathen Shame, Deflag Haemorrhage/Haien Kontra.
Every band was fairly phenomenal. Deflag... is Mattin on labtop noise, voice, guitar and some Goldie person doing drums, voice, and various nise loopage. One of the best noise shows I've seen in a long time. Heathen Shame did some mind melting skronked out free rawkage as usual, nd Drunkdriver was the new rock. |
It frustrates me that some of the bands I really like now don't seem to tour Europe like it used to happen. I don't know if it's the recession or whatever, it's just crap that Drunkdriver haven't toured the UK yet.

Gay Beast @ Heliotrope last year:

alright, we're just about 1/2 way thru the year so here's my list thus far:
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion The Bad Plus & Wendy Lewis - For All I Care Beck - One Foot In The Grave (Expanded Edition) Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle Slim Thug - Boss Of All Bosses Sonic Youth - The Eternal hmm. that's all I can really think of at the moment. Kind of sad for 6 months worth of music to only have 6 records come to mind. |
has anyone heard the new cheer accident album?
didn't know there was a new one. will investigate. i love them..

still mediocre shit to me. ---- while i'm at it, i fucking hated the new blackshaw album on young god, made me feel depressed and seemed like he was trying some death in june/c93 at best, cheesy faux chamber goth at worse in there. i hope he didn't peak with litany but this one sucks. and while we're at it, big business - mind the drift might be the worse record i've heard so far in the year. perhaps it has like 30 seconds of worthy music in it. |

and why is that? i'm really enjoying that album. Really catchy pop tunes, way better than the last two Melvins records. |
their first is so much better, i can't even begin to describe.
besides, most of it is unimaginative riffs with pseudo singing on top. |

fixed. |
One Foot In The Grave deluxe is a amazing thing. Really, didn't expected it but it's great to see my favorite Beck album finnaly get some extra attetion.
new twinsistermoon and richard youngs are awesome.
^Just came in here to post about the new TwinSisterMoon. I'm nearly convinced any NSB-related project can do no wrong.
richard youngs is always good.
I dont even know if bands like KMFDM mayve and Front Line Assembly certainly to be real industrial. Industrial to me is one of the best and most exciting genres out there; heavy electronics, fucked up synths, hypnotic percussiveness, and a sexyness that very view experimental musics can say they share. I get this vibe from Throbbing Gristle, Test Dept, Zoviet France, SPK, Hafler Trio, Controlled Bleeding, Clock DVA, etc... I do not get that from any bands mentioned above. Just me I guess.
Anyways, the Tyvek full length on Siltbreeze fucking RULESSSSS!!!!!!!! |
yeah, cheer acident was on the cover of signal to noise for thier new album.
im listened to the new s/t rusted shut album for the first time now. its rusted shut, so its fucked up and heavy and bad acid wierd and all that, but i can already tell its not nearly as wonderfully and deliriously fucked and awesom as 'rehab', 'hot sex', an the aa lathe. it sounds like they are going for a more tonal punk vibe, and the first few songs sound a lot like vintage amrep jesus lizard stuff. not that thats bad, i just think rusted shut is and always should be waaaaaaay more fucked than all the bands in thier genre. thier sound is usually a mix of the best things from hardcore, black metal, grindcore, sludge, and improv noise, but this one is prolly more easily classified as just noise rock. |
the song "the beach" sounds like electric wizard with horrible production, its prolly my fave song on the record, just slowed and simple chords, a steady drum beat, and grunted lyrics about some violent sex thing going down on a beach i guess.
