I must've missed this thread. Thanks for the tip^. Need to get it. I've read the whole thread and couldn't help but notice that Karen Dalton hasn't been mentioned at all. ![]() I recently bought It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best, which is phenomenal. Here's some videos: It Hurts Me Too God Bless the Child |
Wow, never heard of her before. What a great voice. Thanks for the introduction.
|
You're welcome.
It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best was re-released in 2006 and contains a 2nd disc of video material on DVD. A must have if you like her. Link: http://www.forcedexposure.com/Labels...one.uk.uk.html |

I have the same record. Good stuff indeed. |

so has anyone heard that album by the trees? the christian psych-folk commune-type band?
|
Old Springs Pike, they're brilliant. Four people: two on acoustic guitar and two switching off between the tamborine, the melodica, hitting empty bottles, and stomping. Four-part harmony. Also 3/4 of the band are actors so their banter is amazing.
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0QN_kMEQKh0 [it's pretty much Beatles covers and banter] MTV Special: http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1567944&vid=171543 |

My friend Timothy released that deluxe reissue. It's totally essential; one of the best acid-folk LPs I've ever heard. Super way far-out for its time too. |
i love the way they try to do like gregorian chants, then switch to san francisco-like phrasing and going all "jesus!!!!"
i didn't love it, but i have only listened to it once. it's definitely bizarre! |
The 2xLP reissue on Locust by the Wisconsin Xtian psych-folk band Silmaril is well worth checking out too.
Did you hear the 4xCD version of the Trees stuff, or the unauthorized crappy needle-drop bootleg Radioactive version? Tim's remastering job on the original tapes is pretty great. |
i downloaded it from the intraweb, it was definitely not a 4 disc dealy...and now that you mention it, the sound was a bit shoddy and contributed to my likeness of it, or lack of it.
i need to do some shopping at locust, will check that band out. |

The whole Manson thing tends to bore me to death, but the 'Family Jams' album is pretty good, especially the version of 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.
![]() And this too is actually far better than some people might initially think. ![]() |
That Manson Family Sings stuff (which I assume is the same material as Family Jams) is way better than any of Charlie's solo music IMO, and much of it stands up with any of the most chilling acid-folk music I've heard. I have the old version that came out on Storm in the early 90s on LP, and it still gets tons of play around these parts.
|
Yeah, I imagine it's the same album. The one I have is a double CD with loads of alternative takes, etc. I love its freeform nature. Totally agree about it being better than Manson's solo stuff. I was just listening to Lies though and, while its definitely no classic, I find it hard not to find something to like about a song such as 'I am the Mechanical Man'.
"edit:] Can anyone recommend me some Jackie-O Motherfucker and Sunburned Hand of the Man? |

tokolosh, how is the bonus disc? I have the koch reissue from the 90s. it's a solid sounding reissue but very bare bones. Marcus |

The Trees box set is a grower. My first impression was that te 4 discs were unnecessary. After some repeat listening, i really love this. Even though I don't believe all four discs are essential, I couldn't really imagine a reissue campaign of individual cds being received quite as well and I look forward to getting familiar with the collection over time. It's 25min of live footage. DVD 1. God Bless The Child (live/DVD) 2. It Hurts Me Too (live/DVD) 3. Little Bit Of Rain (live/DVD) 4. Blues Jumped The Rabbit (live/DVD) Another gem to add to the list. Cotton Eyed Joe - Loop Tapes Live In Boulder 1962 (2CDs & DVD) |

Has anyone mentioned on this thread the genius that is Carolanne Pegg? I have discovered her a few years ago through a song called 'Winter People' and never looked back.

Quote:
HOLY SHIT!!!!!! if anyone can upload this for me (lossless or otherwise) or wants to trade for this...i'd love to listen to this show. |
Quote:
I'm ok for a trade. I also have stuff from bands in your want list  PM me if interested. |
Anyone heard anything by the band Stone Angel? They keep being mentioned in articles but never enough to say what they're actually like.
![]() |
So a month or two ago I made a blind buy of Ed Askew-Little Eyes. He plays this thing called a tipple which sounds kind of like a mandolin but tuned lower. Anyway, the cd is fucking awesome. Just thought you all should know.

Working link now
I recorded some Irish/ English fiddle tunes the other night. These are the largely unedited versions, with a couple of improvisations included. Second fiddler on some of the tracks is my housemate. It's a pretty rough recording, but I'm quite pleased with most of it. |
Glice, your link is kinda wrong :/
|
Thanks, fixed.
|
Thanks, I'll listen to your music when I have the time, I usually like folk stuff.
|
It's not my usual thing, but I'm probably going to give it a crack soon because there's more money in function bands than my usual mewling nonsense.
|
that's ace Glice! rocking the fiddle, I want a go.

VERY high-quality darkward-leaning acid folk from the early 1970s, reissued by Gary Ramon in the 1990s. One of my favorites of the era. They morphed into a group called Midwinter, which had a reissue on Kissing Spell around the same time. Also very good. Excellent musicianship, great voices and words. |
