NAPALM!!!! i fucking love them. i loved seeing them live las year. barney was w/ his foot broken, but still made amazing show.

saw metallica in my teenage years, remember a little from it. i loaded myself with gluthethimide and codeine and the whole show went like a dream. i remember i was in front of james newstead. still think he's the only tolerable member of the band. they were here this year too. now i hate their fans even more.

I thought The Unforgiven III was a bad idea when I heard they were doing it, but it pretty cool.

Also, I think Rob's made such a great impact on how the band sound.

I know it's popular to think Metallica suck, but the albums pretty cool.

yeah the album's awesome.

Not a huge fan of the single or unforgiven iii but a few of the songs are the best thing they've ever done. Great album all in all, one of the best of the year definitely.

This album is really good, I'm really happy that they've just went with what they started with. I mean, some of it's like the Black Album but at least they haven't went down the same road as Load/Reload or even *gulp* St. Anger...

Most of the people I know who are into "freak folk" are jacking off to this one quite furiously, surprisingly. I suppose the inner 12 year-old Metallica fanatic is calling back.

Me...I think this is just a tremendously shitty attempt at trying to forge their old sound. None of it sounds natural at all and Rick Rubin's completely lifeless production techniques didn't help save the music either. Iunno. I'd say it's worse than St. Anger. At least that album was funny because it was laughably bad, but this is just depressingly bad. The sound of a really tired band out of ideas (c'mon, Unforgiven III?!) that should have quit over a decade ago, I think.

Yes indeed, metallica is back. It's not better than any of the first 4, but it's about a million times better than the 4 afterwards.

Also features some of their best riffs ever.

hah, I came across a link and listened to it tonight and it has a few good songs actually!
of course it's nothing amazing or original, but still surprising to hear them make a somewhat half-decent album after all that time.

well, it sounds like metallica which is a good thing, they haven't sound like them since the black album.

i think the album is ok, sound good, has some good riffs and there's nothing really off putting. the songs, however, are lacking; most of it is like a collection of good riffs, i didn't find a single memorable song.

it's ok, but "ok" for metallica is a huge step forward.

Yeah, it's like going back to the old "Metallica"-Metallica, but without really succeeding, i.e. lacking songs indeed.

Well, that's the verdict after listening once anyway and I don't think many listenings will follow. If I want to listen to Metallica (which rarely happens) then I'll play Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, but I guess the average Metallica fan will dig it... or at least consider it the best thing they've done in ages.

I give the new album about a 7 or 8 on a ten point scale. Not stone cold classic but pretty dang good.

I'm listening to it and liking it so far.

New album rules. Some of the tracks are iffy but most are actually quite solid.

I think them going back to the Justice era has paid off for them. they actually sound like Metallica, even though it only has remnants of Justice. the new track kept my interest on first listen. that's a good sign.

The only thing I don't really like is the vocals, it'd be cool as an instrumental record but those don't really shift units.
