they do and they dont. there are some real hardcore places where people do live but are very hostile to outsiders. there are a lot of old buses and caravans outside most squats that people live in. one guy actually built a house in a tree, which sounds really lame but he has made it huge with several rooms,electricity and heating. the council tried to evict him but under some weird loophole in the law he is allowed to stay. |

i believe i have heard some part of the building now called Tacheles was used by the Nazis during the war as some headquarter and that some prisoners were even executed there...
i think Tacheles is actually subsidized by the City or the Ministry of Culture these days... anyway, it's true that it seems to have become a sort of touristic place... |
