UK venue for SENSATIONAL FIX art show falls through


due to the impossibility to re-arrange the existing program and finances the UK venue for the show that was recently under discussion will unfortunately not take place. we are looking for a venue for fall this year to fill the gap between the presentation in malmö and the planned one in madrid for january 2010. more later...

future zines


with sensational fix zine #3 'morley' in the making, it's time to plan numbers 4 + 5.

number 4 is thought of as another compilation zine with contributions by a selection of artists from the show, to be published in october 2009.

number 5 - for the moment the last of this series - is planned to be released in november 2009 and will be a special split-issue with on the one hand collaborations of kim gordon and thurston moore, and on the other by lee ranaldo and leah singer. i just received their confirmation and when back from their US tour we will start working on it.

the upcoming issue, dedicated to michael morley's art, will include a DVD with michael's film 'the black album', and will be presented on 13 august 2009 at de player to coincide with the opening of his exhibition there. michael will also perform solo as GATE and the 8" limited edition that the player is producing with michael will also be presented that evening.

sold out SENSATIONAL FIX publication goes into reprint


the award-winning, sold out publication SONIC YOUTH etc. : SENSATIONAL FIX will be reprinted in the next months in an edition of 2000 copies in english, with two 7" records on coloured vinyl included. currently we are making some corrections and credit additions. please keep an eye on the publisher's website for more details.

8-INCH
DE PLAYER presents in its new series 8-INCH the second edition with MICHAEL MORLEY. For the 8-INCH, 50 unique artist editions will be produced with original sound and artwork on square 8-INCH vinyl and cover by MICHAEL MORLEY.The issue further contains a poster and a photo.

PERFORMANCES
On the evening MICHAEL MORLEY will perform a live set, featuring SPECIAL GUESTS (to be announced later).

EXHIBITION
That same night DE PLAYER opens the first European solo exhibition of this New Zealand artist and experimental musician. Curated by freelance curator Roland Groenenboom, the exhibition contains recent watercolours, paintings and drawings made in New Zealand, as well as those made during MORLEY’s residency in Paris (June – August 2009). It also includes in situ works by MORLEY, who will spend most of August in Rotterdam to work both on visual art and recordings in the studio of WORM.


In his visual production, MORLEY explores how the vast territory of sound may be used within the truly visual practice of painting, among others focusing on how silence and painting relate to each other. His research takes on different forms: from paintings on seven-inch records to watercolours of vintage guitar amplifiers and speaker stacks, and from watercolours of anonymous high-rise buildings to paintings of record players that appear to play a vinyl record.
The EXHIBITION will be open 14, 15, 20, 21 & 22 august 13.00-17.00 hrs.

Next to the 8-INCH release, Roland Groenenboom’s SENSATIONAL FIXon the same night presents SENSATIONAL FIX ZINE #3 ‘MORLEY’, the first monographic publication dedicated to the art of MICHAEL MORLEY. This third fanzine in a projected series of five has 24 pages, of which 12 with full colour illustrations of MORLEY’s art. It furthermore contains an essay by the artist about his visual production. A DVD with a video/sound work by MORLEY accompanies the publication. SENSATIONAL FIX ZINE #3 ‘MORLEY’ is published in a limited edition of 500 signed and numbered copies. 60 Euros is pretty shocking. I thought I desperately wanted this, but I'm not so sure now.

8inch limited edition michael morley for DE PLAYER

 

on the invitation of DE PLAYER michael morley is producing an 8inch in a limited edition of 50 copies.

the covers are all unique and handpainted, and next to the square 8inch vinyl it contains a poster, photo, a text by roland groenenboom and sensational fix zine #3 'morley' (w/ DVD). you could buy the 8inch during the event at DE PLAYER on thursday and during the opening hours of the exhibition at DE PLAYER, or you could order it through the website of DE PLAYER.

Ordered 2 this time. Gonna make a friend of mine very happy with this.

Hang on have you got this Toko? or had a confirmation? i'm still waiting confirmation of my order and have have no response from Roland yet. Maybe another email is needed as i and two others don't want to miss this.
