(In Adam voice) WHAAAAAAT? Oh i guess I said it weird. Hannah doesn’t deserve Adam, obviously, but Adam’s also done nothing to deserve Hannah’s awfulness. Quote:
Uh... addicts in recent recovery are really not supposed to bed down with other addicts in recent recovery. And they’re both adddicts. Adam had his addict shit pretty well together, but Jessa’s fairly fresh out of heroin school, where she fucking was expelled... didn’t graduate. All I mean is, IRL, every addict these people know would be screaming at them to NOT FUCK. And they’d fuck anyway, and AA logic dictates they’d lead each other to relapse. *shrug* |
Quote:
oh! i didnt know that. never been to that school. everybody is an addict in this society though, either to work or to shopping, so who’s gonna be left to fuck? i can see why the basic idea is there but permanent celibacy is just not possible. oh yeah i read “deserve” like she was a prize lol. |
|
Quote:
Nonononono not a prize, not a prize. Noooooonononono. Definitely a wet mouth, like you said. You nailed it. She’s a fucking wet mouth and terrible person, and I don’t care how much incremental growth she manages to inch through over five goddamn years, she’s still a goddamn narcissistic freakshow! And yeah, I’ve spent some time around addict culture because... well, I really have had friends like the characters on GIRLS, and I’ve lost several of them to overdoses. I’ve even tried the Al-Anon thing, but never really committed. Thought I had a problem myself for a while, but turns out I was just being a kid and partying like stupid kids do. Anyhoo, that’s how I know about this stuff. Had friends go into rehab and emerge with girlfriends and boyfriends and fuck-buddies, insisting they’d found their soul mates, plowing head-first into impending disaster. But it does seem like addicts go for addicts a lot. (And when I say “addict,” I’m just talking about the common conception... I actually have several serious issues with AA culture, but I’m saying “addict” because it’s simpler than explaining all of that.) SO... it’s probably pretty realistic that Adam and Jessa would “end up” together. I guess in the end I liked the show despite loathing 99% of the so-called human beings it revolves around. Would be this invested/opinionated if I didn’t like it, at least in a grudging kind of way. |
well ive always been attracted to crazies. cant relate to normals. i understand the addict thing i guess. just how im wired.
one day im taking refuge in a friend’s apartment and im telling him my home troubles and he’s like “she’s crazy!!” and proceeds to lecture me on why cant i just find “a simple woman.” i thought he was crazy himself for believing there is such a thing as “a simple woman,” but with the intervening years i think he just meant “not so fucking bananas as the ones you always hook up with.” and... sure, but... nah... just there isnt any chemistry with the simples. anyway, the show i loved to hate i think i called it earlier. it’s a good show about horrible people. the end was a bit thrown together but eh. glad you liked it. ps have you ever seen father ted? it’s on amazon now. haaa haaaa haaaa haaaaaa! |
Quote:
Oh my god we should compare notes on crazy some day man. Privately, maybe. I’ll look into Father Ted. |
i don’t fuck and tell, but i do have a problem with people who are well adjusted to social reality. i’m with the ones in permanent revolt. not in an ideological party line way but just instinctively maladjusted. a lot of people like that are going to end up highly neurotic, addicted or slightly bananas once they hit adolescence and beyond. those are my people— the malcontents. there’s still the question of acting intelligently on that pressure once you reach the age of reason, but the primary drive... yeah i totally connect with that.
father ted ha ha haha. if you grew up catholic you’ll laugh so hard. |

I grew up Catholic as fuck. Now I’m excited. |
Insecure on HBO.
I got HBO again. I got it with the singular purpose of binging the fuck out of the four seasons of GIRLS jot available on Prime in the one-week trial period. I didn’t get GIRLS finished in a week, so I paid for a month, and now I might as well use it. Anyway, Insecure is OK. |
good strategy though, to fuck & run
i might get a month of the thing when the last gaymotron comes out if my internet can handle it then |
Quote:
Took me a minute to realize you’re talking about Game of Thrones. Haha. Gaymotron. Lololol |
Check out the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. Good stuff, starting the dead whore from House of Cards as a Jewish comedienne in the 1950s. Goes a little overboard with some of the Jewish stuff... really quite gleefully stereotypey... but it’s a good little show and that chick must be able to act because she’s a 100% different person in this than she was in HOC.
|
currently “working” thru and father ted + grounded for life + jean claude van johnson on amazon, but will add to watchlist for when one clears.
|
Miniaturist (BBC1) Really well done. Holland 1600's. Great costumes, interiors and acting. It did, however, have a bit of a supernatural element to it that felt contrived. Romola Garai and Alex Hassell were great in this, 2 parter, 2.5 hours. I was impressed!

I JUST WATCHED PETER CAPALDI’S FINAL EPISODE AS THE DOCTOR! :(
He turned out to be such a badass Doctor. He’d be a good Dream/Morpheus from “Sandman” also, methinks. Ugh. Time for Jodie Whittaker. |
Quote:
He had the qualities to be one of the best but I think the final verdict has to be that he did a very good job with often not that great material. But just as Jodie replaces Pete, so Chibnall replaces Moffat, and an entirely new era begins. EDIT: Great call on Morpheus, btw. |
Quote:
Thanks! Yeah, that just came to me last night. Think it’s kind of perfect. I also think Neil Gaiman wrote his version of Sandman with a lot of Doctor-esque qualities, because Neil’s such a mad fucking Whovian. So the parts just might be symbiotic by nature. I think Tennant could handle it too. But Capaldi *looks* the part. And has plenty of natural menace in his face. I was not a fan of his Doctor at first, but he grew on me big time. As a Doctor I just loved him. He gave some of the greatest monologues I’ve ever seen in the series, and he’s one of the better actors to ever try the role. I think his Doctor + the writing of the Tenant era + the production budget and arcs of the Smith era, all combined would make for a near-perfect Doctor. I’m actually looking forward to the new gal. I just haven’t liked her in anything else. But I trust the franchise. It’s going to be a new era, for sure. |
I’m finally watching Mad Man, and goddammit it actually is really good. I was kind of hoping I’d be able to be too cool for Mad Men, but it’s just really goddamn well-made, and Don Draper has fucking chopped off a little piece of my soul and put it in his pocket and now I need to follow him around until I get it back.
Dammit. I thought I was gonna be too cool for the Americans too. But ... well, that’s obviously not a thing. |
Insecure first season. Ms Ild & I are liking it
|
Quote:
It’s pretty good. Gets addictive as hell. |
cant get enough of father ted at the moment. a real pleasure to watch the episodes in order instead of waiting for them to show up on pbs randomly
i think about it randomly and start laughing to myself like a crazy |
The new Black Mirror's USS Callister episode was one of the most enjoyable 1.5 hours I have ever watched. Absolutely loved it.
|
Quote:
Is Black Mirror an anthology or something? Different cast/local every season? I’ve never seen it. I hear it’s really uncomfortably terrifying. Lemme know if I’m missing something good. |
Quote:
S1 is 3 episodes S2 is 4 S3-4 is 6 each. |
Quote:
Sorry I mean “locale” not “local.” I was asking about the setting and characters. Like, is it like American Horror Story? Different story every season with different characters, all thinly woven together and co-existing under a loose greater “theme,” or is it just like a regular show, where you follow the same basic story and characters from episode 1 to the end? |
Quote:
Yes, correct. Stand-alone episodes. Each "episode" is it's own little twisted short story. Very Twilight Zone or Tales from the Crypt, I think. I really love the series in general. Some episodes can be hit or miss, but I really dig it as a whole. Quote:
It is, and that is what turns a lot of people off on it. I am absolutely the target market for it though. It really speaks to my apprehension and disdain for modern technology and where it "could" take society. Some people find it a little heavy-handed and preachy in that sense though. I think it's clever. The first episode really can leave an odd taste in people's mouths though too, and I don't feel is totally representative of the series as a whole. Make it through that episode and you are good to go. White Bear and Shut Up and Dance were a few of my favs of past seasons. USS Callister this season so far. From a creative standpoint though, I just think it is really well done. The casting, acting, writing, editing, etc... Just all very solid, imo. |
been bingeing on brooklyn nine-nine lately.
it’s okay funny. not mega hilarious or anything but easy watching at the end of a long workday for some chuckles. |
Quote:
Not totally sure in comparison. I have not seen American Horror Story (but will likely watch it soon based on this thread). Sounds interesting. If anything, I would say that all the episodes are very thinly woven together under the general theme of "technology" in a sense. Geographically, you could say it takes place all over. There really is not anything tying each episode to the other, besides a few little easter eggs and such. Each episode is completely stand-alone in style, locale, period, etc... You could hop around watching anywhere in the seasons and not get lost. |
i started watching american horror story and it was brutal, rapey, and extremely dark
so much so that i stopped watching it. not in any sort of scandalized way, just basic aversion to unpleasantness. |
finally watching Ash vs Evil Dead. almost done with season one.
Also, watching new Planet Earth II |
Quote:
i forgot to catch up on season 2. i’ll have to find it somewhere. |
Quote:
Think it’s on Netflix. You can order on DVD. |
Quote:
yeahbut |

Oh wait, we’ve been over this huh? Sorry. |
Holt shit. Mad Men is more addictive than opium.
I honestly did not believe the hype on this one, but my god. |
End of the F***cking World - Netflix
Enjoyed it. It's odd. I got a mild Wes Anderson vibe mixed with that cynical British wit. It has a certain tone that is just hard to totally pinpoint. Interesting watch. I am really interested to see what becomes of that Alex Lawther kid in it. He was in one of my favorite Black Mirror episodes and this series, and just knocked it out of the park in both, imo. I think he'll be one to watch in the future. Dark - Netflix If you can get past the English overdubbing, this is very well worth the watch. There are a lot of Stranger Things comparisons I see online, but I don't totally agree with them after watching. I see where they come from, but this series certainly stands alone. Clever writing. Heavy story that develops interestingly well. And of course, both the new Chappelle and Tom Segura standup specials were quite enjoyable. I really am interested in that American Horror Story after reading through this thread some more. I will likely be starting that this weekend. It sounds hit or miss though. Should I start with Season 1 and just keep going or should I jump around to different seasons? |

I started this and was really intrigued, but couldn’t even stay away from Mad Men for half an hour. This will be next for me.
I really am interested in that American Horror Story after reading through this thread some more. I will likely be starting that this weekend. It sounds hit or miss though. Should I start with Season 1 and just keep going or should I jump around to different seasons?
Season 1 is kind of shit... too much rape. 2 is better, but still lots of rape. Season 3 (Coven) is the absolute fucking best, so that’s all there is to that. Four and five and six are all kind of forgettable, but I loved season 7, the one about the election and the Trump era cult leader. I might jump around if I were you. Read the descriptions and go with what sounds best to you. But the Roanoke season is utter crap. Total crap shitfest. My ranking: 1. Season 3 (Coven) 2. Season 7 (Cult) 3. Season 2 (Asylum) 4. Season 5 (Hotel) 5. Season 4 (Freakshow) 6. Season 1 (Eventully known as “Murder House”) 7. Season 6 (Roanoke, aka the fucking reality TV bullsht one that tries to be meta and fails horrifically) Seasons 5-7 are all much shorter than the first four, which were like 20 episodes each. The latter seasons are only like 10-13 eps, so keep that in mind. |
Quote:
Dig it, thanks for the response. I might check it out in this order then, so long as I would not be losing out on any character development or must-see easter eggs or anything. Sounds like each season stands completely independent of the others. You are also making me want to pick up Mad Men again. That really was a good show. I got to like Season 3 or something years ago but got way to busy to continue for awhile at the time, then it just sort of dropped off the radar and I have not gone back yet. I need to revisit that one as well. Very strong writing and character development in that series for sure. |
Quote:
The AHS series are loosely overlapping, but in very small ways. You’ll see. Characters from one season may pop up on the periphery of another. But this didn’t start until season 4. And it’s very fleeting and weird because the same actors appear in different roles in most seasons, so to have one come back, even for a second, in a different role is to have them play two characters in one season, which is weird. Every season takes place in a different location during a different time period wth a different group of characters and an often-overlapping cast. They exist in the same universe, but there’s no overarching story to be told. At least none that has revealed itself yet. |
I started watching Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld. It's an enjoyable show. Surprisingly my two favourite episodes were with Jimmy Fallon, who I usually can't stand.
