Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) 2007
A fascinating film about Operation Bernhard.

nicfit 04.18.2008 03:48 AM

Silent Dan Speaks 04.20.2008 11:19 AM

The Darjeeling Limited. I really liked it.

gmku 04.20.2008 11:38 AM

Casino Royale. The best Bond movie ever.

gmku 04.20.2008 11:39 AM

Oh, and The Misfits. What a great movie. Marilyn was so underrated as an actor.

Yeah. I love Hitchcock. Psycho's great, but North by Northwest is his best, I think.

A really great movie that is out of sync with the vast majority of mainstream cinema and has a real 60's kitchen sink drama feel in places... it also has a truly amazing surreal scene that would not be out of place in a David lynch film!

I don't normally rave about contemporary British filmmaking but I really rate this one.

That's great that you enjoyed Satan's brew Fugazifan!...

gmku 04.20.2008 02:31 PM

The trend to hand-drawn-looking fonts in movie titles these days... what's up with this? Is it supposed to convey edgy or independent or something?

toxic johnny 04.20.2008 02:42 PM

It's true that a lot of American Indie movies use the hand drawn style... but i don't think that it's a trend per se.

davenotdead 04.20.2008 02:43 PM

independent/DIY attitude i believe

Savage Clone 04.20.2008 02:49 PM

Christian Volckman's Renaissance. Highly enjoyable, and beautifully rendered. One of my favorite recently-viewed films.

Also picked up Jess Franco's The Girl From Rio on the cheap recently, which I found quite enjoyable in a highly-stylized way. Futuristic amazons showing lots of skin in a high-design setting, held together by the thinnnest semblance of a plot? Sign me up.

it's cheaper to hand draw titles than pay for fonts ha ha.

It's also cheaper to get the Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson to provide music for your film than to get music made by people with talent.

if they signed the contract with some "reward" related to cd sales, then it's not that cheap to give them their share :D.

Well, I suppose if you voluntarily put that music in your film, you get what you deserve...

(which apparently means Academy Awards, so maybe I should just stop this line of flawed logic right now)

But if everybody starts doing it, it's not so independent, right?

gmku 04.20.2008 03:35 PM

I'm probably going to re-watch Casino Royale tonight on cable.

The Graduate is back on cable this week, too. I'll re-watch that again.

sonic sphere 04.21.2008 09:14 AM

the aviator, last night on tv-thought it was pretty good

DeadDiscoDildo 04.21.2008 02:14 PM

No Country For Old Men, thought it was pretty interesting. Loved how they hardly used music in it, felt like a more old time movie.

Next on my list is The Dark Knight, this summer baby!

king_buzzo 04.21.2008 02:44 PM

I Dont Remember.

Katy 04.21.2008 09:55 PM

I'm ill. I've done nothing but lay in bed, watching movies, drinking lemon tea and blowing my nose every 30 seconds, for the past 3 days.

I've watched:

"Santa Sangre"
"Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" (feeling Joan Crawford in this one..)
"An American In Paris"
"Galaxy Quest"
"The Apartment" (feeling Jack Lemmon in this one..)
"The Wicker Man" (original version, not the *spit* remake)
"Run Lola Run"

..plus 3 Eddie Izzard DVDs and some Mghty Boosh.

Tokolosh 04.22.2008 02:31 AM

I watched this surreal Danish film last night. Hilarious and gory!
A must see. Loved it.

Norma J 04.22.2008 02:48 AM

^^ That somehow looks interesting.

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Tokolosh 04.22.2008 03:08 AM

I don't want to spoil it for you Norma, but there's a bit in it about Hitler
that should have you rolling over the floor with laughter.
Danish filmmaking at it's best.

Cantankerous 04.22.2008 03:21 AM

ive been mostly laying in bed for the past two days with another ear infection and a respiratory infection as well. so movies = good.

pao-lino 04.22.2008 07:45 AM

get well soon catankerous-same for me, in bed with a overheating laptop watching dvx.
I watched Funeral Party and it's really funny... I laughed a lot.
some "gags" are not new or that original, but the actors are great...

then I watched Four rooms... very 90's. ROdriguez part was the funniest, I think

I watched an Italian movie, Nirvana by Salvatores... spaghetti sciencefiction, starring, among usual salvatores'actors, Christopher Lambert!
there are some good elements, there's a guy with cameras au lieu of eyes and that's well made. but the story is a little stupid...
this guys crashes the system to erase the videogame "nirvana" he created because the gamecharacter has a conscience... mah...

I also watched Juno and kinda didnt like it... all those teenagers acting sarcastic GilmoreGIrls like... nice music though. Shame in Italy that movie was flagged as a manifset against abortion.

Yesterday I watched Land of Plenty and I liked it. that actress Michelle Williams is very beautiful and talented. Haha I remember Dawson creek where she was kinda the rebel sexually active newyorker...
(btw they're going to remake 90210!)

gmku 04.22.2008 08:03 AM

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Rob Instigator 04.22.2008 09:29 AM

Like Lions For Lambs.

polemic, but it raises interesting questions. Not all that fabulous.

Rob Instigator 04.30.2008 09:26 AM

Watched

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead.

it starts off with marissa tomei getting blasted doggy style by phillip seymour hoffman, fucking her hard. she is naked in much of this movie and looks fantastic.

the movie itself was OK, I enjoyed the acting and the story but sydney lumet's device of flashbacs, with very incongruous music and edits, ruins any effect the acting may have had I give it 3 out of 4 though.

mangajunky 04.30.2008 09:42 AM

Fight Club - an almost perfect flick. It's a little long but still awesome.

!@#$%! 04.30.2008 09:54 AM

pretty good... i had never seen it complete.

HairwayToSteven 04.30.2008 09:55 AM

Baby Mama.
