lol thanks for the offer. I have been sitting here with this e-mail open for like an hour now... I'll write something eventually. Really I will.

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 01:49 PM

I am now officially addicted to cigs again.

static-harmony 07.10.2009 01:53 PM

Melly, yesterday was the first time I had a ciggie in over two weeks. I had another one, but I lost it when I was throwing up. Moral of the story, never have your ciggie on your ear while puking.

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 01:55 PM

Troo say, Synthy, troo say.

static-harmony 07.10.2009 01:57 PM

I have to go to work in half an hour. I don't want to, lol.

Melly how are things with you?

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 02:02 PM

Things are good, thanks. AM taking it easy tonight. Hope that things are all good with you over there.

static-harmony 07.10.2009 02:06 PM

Things are swell. Well talk to you later I have to go to work. I can't be late anymore. Later.

although, I have no problem generating content, it's the implementation that gets me.

I have good intentions....they just never get done. :o

ps: I need a smoke badly.

Satan 07.10.2009 02:08 PM

i am currently working on totaling the value of my entire record collection

...very tedious

Satan 07.10.2009 02:11 PM

oh yeah does anyone know approximately how much would a mellotron cost?

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 02:14 PM

Re Mellotron - there's this site here for what I presume are new Mellotrons (and egad, how much?!?!?!?!) - http://www.mellotron.com/prices.htm

EDIT - Here be a fairly comprehensive review of the new range of Mellotron - http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct0...otronm4000.htm

Satan 07.10.2009 02:23 PM

good lord
i assume they weren't in production for too long, hence the cost

Rob Instigator 07.10.2009 02:28 PM

they be pricey, and nearly every band I have ever seen using one is using a beat up road-weary one.

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 02:31 PM

Yes, I think that's right. There were, from what I understand, notoriously difficult to maintain and "tune", due to the various mechanisms that are involved. If there are any knocking about second hand, I would think that they are either knackered or "vintage" (and so having a five-figure sum attached to them). Unfortunately, in this case, it looks like emulation software is the only way to go, which of course is never going to sound as good as the real thing.

Satan 07.10.2009 02:36 PM

holy shit £5200??!!???!?

that's like $8500, i'll buy a used one...

if anyone's curious i'm trying to gather together a psychedelic orchestra

automatic bzooty 07.10.2009 02:47 PM

mellotrons are fantastic.

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 02:54 PM

Satan - I'm curious. Sounds like you're going for a big, layered sound. If so, I'm certainly looking forward to hearing the end results.

automatic bzooty - in my younger, protestant punk days, I used to sneer at Mellotrons for being the sound of the "enemy". Now I've grown up, they can sound gorgeous, though I still think that the very idea of Keith Emerson wanking away on one is enough to make me want to heave. But that's not the fault of the instument....King Crimson, Hendrix, the Zep and Quiet Sun knew how to use one.

Satan 07.10.2009 02:57 PM

at least an 8 piece band
i don't know if it's going to work out at all, it was mostly just an idea but i still want a mellotron at least for my own personal use

MellySingsDoom 07.10.2009 03:30 PM

^^^Funny, I was thinking that the 2 bands who can do a psych orchestra sound at present are the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and MBV, at least on record. I think Spiritualized tried for that sort of sound as well, but for me it never really worked, due to everything being orchestrated as opposed to being arranged (a crucial difference, I feel).

floatingslowly 07.10.2009 03:31 PM

if you come out like the polyphonic spree, I'm disowning you!!!!!!

dirty bunny 07.10.2009 04:08 PM

Victory is mine! I completed my e-mail!!! :D

dirty bunny 07.10.2009 04:10 PM

and by the way the first Polyphonic Spree album was good gleeful fun. a bit sugary, perhaps, but just the right thing when the mood strikes me.

EVOLghost 07.10.2009 06:10 PM

Yay! I am now officially a Class C driver. Meaning! I can legally drive

I've been driving these things for a little over 2 years without a Class C license and just got caught last month. I think I'm a bit too excited...

floatingslowly 07.10.2009 06:14 PM

^^^ time to take on TEH ICE RD. now.

no. when it was only "sections 1-10", it was PURE FUCKING GENIUS.

I can only tolerate so much happiness though. especially when it's completely contrived.

Savage Clone 07.10.2009 06:18 PM

We have a real mellotron in our band. Nowhere near as heavy as a regular organ. I love the sound of that thing!
If you're goign to get one, might as well go all the way and spend 14 grand on the clear one.

automatic bzooty 07.10.2009 06:20 PM

melly - yeah, just the words "keith emerson" make me a little naseous. but in the right hands, mellotrons sound great.

Savage Clone 07.10.2009 06:20 PM

Our keyboard player is a bit older than the rest of us and is an electronics genius; he keeps his Mellotron and vintage synths in perfect condition and does all his own work.

automatic bzooty 07.10.2009 06:21 PM

also: trying a new mexican place and maybe continuing the star wars marathon! yay!

Savage Clone 07.10.2009 06:25 PM
