What the hey? I thought I was on time to catch the live stream of Retribution Gospel Choir at The Current, but it turns out it is already archived. They performed "Feel It, Superior", "Maharisha", "The Stone/Revolution", and "Take Your Time". You can listen to the .mp3 here:
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/dis...pelchoir-live/ Anyone has any idea how to rip that .mp3? I can see it's a rtmpe link, but my StreamTransport crashes when trying to grab it. Can't remember how I snagged the other Low/Retribution Gospel Choir stuff The Current have other there. Anyway, this is the most recent Sub Pop e-mail: Hello there, Retribution Gospel Choir email list member, We are, it’s fair to concede, coming to you with what some, less imaginative, record companies might consider a “difficult” sales pitch. We have a new 7” Retribution Gospel Choir EP called the revolution EPcoming out March 27th, and you are probably already aware of this, because we already GAVE YOU the entire thing via MP3 for free. Which is to say, you already “own” the thing we’re trying to sell you, and we didn’t even charge you for it. It is unclear how we remain in business. However, you may have noticed the quotes surrounding the word “own” above. While you already have the invisible, weightless, magical digital files comprising the revolution ep, you don’t YET own the EP in its intended 7” vinyl, handsome-artwork-having format. On March 27th, you will have the opportunity to own the physical manifestation of this EP you already know to be great. And, you have the opportunity to pre-order this thing now. Relatedly, we are sale pricing RGC’s 2010 masterpiece 2. If you don’t have that on CD or LP yet, now’s the time. Plus, Retribution Gospel Choir on tour!

Will anyone attend Low's performance in London tomorrow? Seems like it's going to be kind of a different show to what they've been doing recently. I hope it will be filmed for a future official release.

Alan mentioned last year that they had plans to put out an EP, but judging by a recent interview, that might have evolved into a possible release of an actual new LP at the end of the year. :) |

From facebook:
Low will be playing Latitude Festival on July 14th in Southwold, Suffolk, UK - http://www.latitudefestival.co.uk/ I wouldn't mind going to this as it's not far from me but it's £75 for a day ticket  |
Holy shit, that is indeed pretty expensive. It's almost the exact equivalent of what is charged for some lame festivals with only a decent name on the line-up around here, though. In case you catch them (although it will be reasonable if you wouldn't), please do not forget to tape. I found it too disappointing that none of their short sets opening for Death Cab For Cutie were recorded apparently. They brought back "Shots And Ladders" and who knows what else, and played "Words" with Ben Gibbard on guitar and vocals at one show, which I'd be curious to hear (hopefully he didn't actually butchered it). Seems like Low will be taking a rest for a while, and Alan and Steve will focus on touring briefly with Retribution Gospel Choir. Last I heard, Eric Pollard was looking for a label to release his solo record as Actual Wolf. There are also a few performances already booked by The Murder Of Crows (one of which will include visual accompaniment by the work of silk painting artist, Lee Zimmerman), and according to Gaelynn Lea there is a possibility that they might record an album sometime in the summer, or even sooner.

Big fat bump.
BYUtv's AUDIO-FILES will be broadcasting a special program focused on Low, today, Tuesday, May 15, at 6 PM (MT Time); which will include interviews with the band as well as some of the most stunningly filmed live versions of "Point Of Disgust" and "Hand So Small" currently in circulation, and hopefully some other treats as well. Not to be missed. Please, tune in and record and share it if you can. I know BYUTV has an archive of their three previous AUDIO-FILES programs on their site, and might offer this one too, but such an awesome content deserves to be around in better quality than compressed HD files. And all I wanted was a Pepsi ....
http://www.avclub.com/articles/portl...-low-co,70709/ Portland Cello Project and Alan Sparhawk of Low cover Suicidal Tendencies - Portland Cello Project made its name mostly by covering reimagining hip-hop tracks for strings; the group even caught Jay-Z's attention with its cover of "H.A.M." (They're interviewed on Jigga's blog about it, even!) We thought it would be cheating for an instrumental group to participate in Undercover, though, so we helped PCP connect with Alan Sparhawk of Low, who's visited the round room twice before. The song they chose, "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies, is the song I was most excited about at the beginning of this year's Undercover. It's such a strange beast: a hardcore/thrash track whose verses are mostly spoken-word, and a painful personal story that's simultaneously pretty hilarious. It sounds incredibly dated, but in 1983, it sparked a lot of other bands (and got an incredible amount of MTV airplay, believe it or not). Sparhawk took the challenge seriously, donning a blue bandana and grabbing himself a Pepsi (all he wanted--and she just wouldn't give it to him!) for the performance. For those unfamiliar with the original, the video is embedded below. Watch 'em both! And then go see Portland Cello Project on tour, dates below, in support of its new album Homage. |
"Imperfecta", debut EP by The Murder Of Crows (Gaelynn Lea & Alan Sparhawk) has been released today, it can be ordered from here:

http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kumd/arts.artsmain?action=viewArticle&sid=14&id=1946848 &pid=392 _tunic_, can you please capture it? Or do you know someone at the Chairkickers List who could? I'm afraid my work is currently keeping me away from the Interneck a little bit too much lately, and I've been missing the good shit. Thanks for any and all efforts in regards to this matter. :) |
I completely forgotten about watching the stream yesterday. I was too occupied with listening to my Wedding Present capture of the night before ;-)
I've asked the list whether someone taped it, hopefully someone did |
i thought this thread was about cam'ron and now i'm disappointed

Sometimes it seems either you document Low or no one does (kudos and respect to emmanuel, stu666, obh2o, Nibbler, and many others, though). Really hoping this show was indeed captured (they covered Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" apparently; I wonder if there were new tunes as well)... They'll be performing at some other venues which aren't exactly part of the Duluth scene. Hoping some of those gigs will be taped by someone. Wanted to catch the KUMD session, but alas, it was a shitty day at work and so I ended up missing this as well. Maybe they'll have it up for lossy streaming at some point over at KUMD's website. |

Bumpity, bump.
KAXE Northern Community Radio, from Minnesota, did broadcast an interview and segments of a live show by The Murder Of Crows (Alan Sparhawk & Gaelynn Lea); which passed unnoticed to us, but I now just crossed paths with it on Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/amy-lynn-6/mur...ows-kaxe-radio |
Snöbarn (Gaelynn Lea on violin, vocals and bells & Ariane Norrgard on guitar and vocals) are planning on recording and subsequently releasing their debut album, which is likely to have some kind of participation by Alan Sparhawk. Quoted below what it was posted at their official facebook:
"Snöbarn is looking forward to an exciting winter! In December we are planning to launch a Kickstarter project that would fund our very first full-length album. We hope to start recording at Sacred Heart in February; the talented Eric Swanson and Alan Sparhawk have already agreed to take the lead on recording/mixing/mastering. With any luck we'd have a soft release of the album in early May... just in time for Homegrown 2013! Stay tuned, folks!" |
