the eponymous album from "10-20" is fantastic. fans of electronica ala autechre would totally enjoy it. highly recommanded!

Slangs - Lost EP
Slangs - Upset EP

not even kidding.

batreleaser 05.06.2009 01:56 PM

so, who's heard nothing people's "late night" yet, its better than "anonymous" i assure you, phenomenal sound.

DJ Rick 05.06.2009 02:38 PM

Awesome record....great reason to buy some real headphones...And the best cover of that Syd Barrett tune, too!

Yes. They are what you say they are. I'm not always sure about this lo-fi thing with them, though, they wear their clothes the right way round naturally.

Decayed Rhapsody 05.06.2009 03:57 PM

Their cover of Cracked Actor is great, too, really fat fat guitar sound.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 05.07.2009 12:32 PM

Can someone explain to me the whole The Field phenomenon (like 3 years after the fact)? I mean, I haven't listened to the new one yet, and the first one was okay and all, but I can't imagine anyone who's heard any minimal dance music before going nuts over this guy. It made no sense to me at the time why the indie community suddenly latched onto him, and it still makes no sense to me now.

atsonicpark 05.07.2009 12:58 PM

There's something a bit otherworldly about it to me. It doesn't try too hard to be different, but it is a bit different than a lot of other minimal techno. I dunno. I just like it, I can't speak for any hype attached to it, it just has a good sound to me.

batreleaser 05.07.2009 01:21 PM

im on the fence about the new skull dekekts record "the temple", its pretty rocking, but i cant tell if it reminds me of tool or not. haha.

atsonicpark 05.07.2009 02:23 PM

it rulz

batreleaser 05.07.2009 08:34 PM

i gotta hear bastard noise's new four disc set. im not a big fan of them or anything but the idea of 4 discs of noise holding my attention throughout the duration is pretty daunting. ive read reviews saying its pretty damn great ad varied, im not sure i believe it but its interesting enough.

atsonicpark 05.11.2009 07:11 AM

Really enjoying harappian night recordings - glorious gongs of hainuwele. Great psycho folk. Haha. Kinda has a Climax Golden Twins/Sun City Girls
vibe at times.

_slavo_ 05.11.2009 07:25 AM

Adam, I just came across the recent Aidan Baker/Thisquietarmy split. It's okay, but not that much of a mindfuck like the "Orange EP". I was a bit dissapointed.

atsonicpark 05.11.2009 07:28 AM

I love it. I agree it's not as good, but Orange is like my favorite ep of all time, so... it's still my favorite thing of the year thus far. Nothing has really blown my mind at all this year, but I've heard plenty of great things. Ever get the new Blackshaw? It's amazing.

yeah, I see what you mean there. My favourite of 2009 might be either "Cloudz" by Sunroof or "Slnko je vo vezi" by the local band called Kolowrat (i might upload it at a certain time). Both radically kick ass, in their own way.
I have heard the new Blackshaw, but just briefly, throughout the last weekend. the first impression is, I don't like it as much as I did with "Litany of Echoes" cause it didn't seem that coherent and the melodies weren't as strong, but it might grow up on me, so it's possible I'll reconsider.

atsonicpark 05.11.2009 07:46 AM

I dunno if overall it's as good as Litany, but there is definitely a song or two that is better than anything on there. I think the last track could have actually been shorted a bit. But the track RIGHT BEFORE the last track is probably my fav. Blackshaw song.

fugazifan 05.11.2009 08:56 AM

from about minute 17 or so on sunshrine is my favorite james blackshaw moment.

now announced:
June 16, 2009, Prague, XT3 club: THISQUIETARMY (drone/ambient/shoegaze) + NADJA (drone/doom/shoegaze) + AIDAN BAKER (ambient/post-rock)

FUCK ME RUNNING. I'm soooooooooooooo there!

Derek 05.11.2009 04:17 PM

I'm jealous. Would kill to see that show.

batreleaser 05.11.2009 04:24 PM

I like Aidan Baker. He's talented as hell. Nadja is the last remaiing post-sludge band (Isis, Jesu, etc..) that I'm still interested in.

Anyways, the new Intelligence LP is awesome, no surprise there. Its called "Fake Surfers". Make me miss A-Frames slightly less.

I really want some new Warmer Milks. "Soft Walks" was a magestic sounding record, a southern rock epic prog drone mastepiece. I am very glad they made that record, it was very ambitious and they pulled it off. But, I heard the Milks are once again a whole new animal in thier latestlive incarnation. At SXSW, they did a five-synth lineup ding some blackened primordial folk-noise dirge. The noise-folk dirge is nothing new if you've heard "Penetration Initials" sigle or the "Radish on Light" lp, but I am ecstatic to hear the damage these cats can do with motherfucking five synthesizers.

Also, new Tyvek and Blues Control records on Siltbreeze, too much excitement folks.

Just listening to it streaming on the Kompakt website - it's not exciting me all that much, especially the cover of Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime, which is, frankly, rather irritating. I prefer From Here We Go Sublime.

EDIT - I actually forgot I was listening to the new one for three or four minutes. I stopped what I was doing, heard this music, and thought, "oh, what's this?", thinking it was just something playing in the background somewhere. You could play it in a chill-out bar and people could chat over it quite happily without it disturbing them. :(

You don't hafta totally miss the A Frames. They've released a couple things this year--a 10" and a 12"--under the AFCGT collaboration with the Climax Golden Twins. It's certainly a more improvisational style, but it is pretty great!

SYRFox 05.12.2009 02:29 AM

I like the new The Field, especially from "Leave It" on. Two first songs are cool but not much more, but after that it gets really good

I have the full length. Its awesome, but a different band all together.

fixing it: the new Pterodactyl is fantawesobulous. Can't get it out of my head. Share the Shade is one fantastic song; Old Clouds is one other. I wasn't too impressed with their first one (maybe I should listen to it more...), but this one is really great. Like Abe Vigoda meets Oneida maybe? It rules anyway

koolthing78 05.17.2009 07:31 PM

This may be old news, but I just found out about Cymbals Eat Guitars, and am really enjoying it. Some might say it's derivative, but it has a Pavementy/Yo La Tengo/Built to Spill sound, so in my opinion as long as it's derived from good things...

Wasn't this 2008?

atsonicpark 05.17.2009 07:42 PM

You know, it was released like December 31st 2008 or some nonsense. I'm counting it as a 2009 album since there's no possible way anyone could have even heard the album until 2009. He may have "finished" it and started selling it on the last day of 2008 but there's no way it could have reached anyone's hands until 2009...

Derek 05.18.2009 01:47 PM

Ah right aha.

Adam Cooley, listen to Peaking Lights - Imaginary Falcons. It was released this year on Not Not Fun.

Oh and your list has a lack of UUUUUU :(

atsonicpark 05.18.2009 03:35 PM

I'll probably throw su aside on there. I feel weird throwing friend's bands on there, but I guess I do have a couple on there already now that I'm looking at it...

Derek 05.18.2009 04:58 PM

Yeah! I'm sure the new Scissor Shock will be on mine! aha!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.18.2009 09:09 PM

Shannon Wright "Butterfly Girls" September 2009

batreleaser 05.19.2009 08:52 AM

new wolf eyes is great. dom fernow sold it to me, saying "i dont sell the jams man, i sell the monolithic songs".

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 08:58 AM

Which new Wolf Eyes? There's probably been at least 30 releases this year already.

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 10:25 AM

yeah derek, peaking lights - imaginary falcons cs [not not fun, 2009] is fucking great.

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 11:07 AM

New sunn's out. It's great.
